18.01.2022 When a real life beautiful ballerina comes to visit...... What a thrill! The children were simply in awe of Ocea the ballerina. Ocea is Bree’s cousin who was invited to come and meet some very excited children (and adults!) Ocea explained her costume and all about what ballerinas do. She danced so beautifully for us all and then warmed up the Joey’s at the barre and we all danced together. Our special thanks to Leanne, Bree’s Aunty for the generous donation of wonderful ballet accessories for the children; the children were so, so excited and engaged with Ocea the ballerina What a special week of hands on learning with our community

All started at Elder St when they were 17 and had their 18th birthdays here with us!!! ... On Thursday Casey turned 18 which was the exact day that Kate turned 18 fifteen years earlier!! 11.01.2022 Our 2-3 yr old Joey children and educators have been exploring two very different topics lately; whales and ballet. Their learning and ideas has been beautifully documented by the Joey educators. Movement, motion, feelings and expression seems to be central concepts in these very different interests. We have a very exciting excursion coming up soon to visit Fort Scratchely to look for whales off the Newcastle coast. However today, just for our developing ballerinas, Tony the wonder builder installed a very important apparatus for any ballerina....the barre. It looks perfect for our talented dancers in training. Now, I wonder....can whales do ballet????

10.01.2022 Our Community Philosophy review is coming along beautifully. Thanks so much for the input from our families via our foyer provocation and emailed responses. Lots of wonderful ideas and values being shared. This week we began the next phase of this process where we engage deeply with the children on this process. In the preschool room we are asking them the question what is important to you about Elder St? Naturally, they have a lot to say! Today our friend the very talente...d Aboriginal artist and designer Jasmine Craciun came to talk to the children about designing the art work for our philosophy. The Wallaby team have created a wonderful Elder St montage on the wall and the children eagerly discussed this with Jasmine today to help plan the first workshop she will hold with them in early March. This is going to be a deeply reflective and meaningful experiences for everyone involved. We will share more on this process in our Weekly Check-in communication email See more
