Approximately 500 cattle yarded and the prices reflected that of what has been happening around the country in recent months. Steers ranged from $4.10 at the heavy end up to $5.20 for the lighter types. On a dollar per head basis, $1,300-$1,750. It would be safe to say we have never seen these sort of prices at Strathalbyn before! The heifer portion followed the sa...me trend, ranging from $3.75-$4.15 on the heavier end and light weights up to $4.60. On a dollar per head basis, $1,100-$1,600. A line of Murray Gray cows with calves at foot sold for $2,180, with Angus preg tested heifers also making $2,100. Steers 350kg+ avg $4.25 250-350kg avg $4.40 Lighter types $5.00 up to $5.20 Heifers 330kg+ avg $3.85 300-330kg avg $4.05 Lighter types $4.65 up to $4.90 Next sale will be 11th December. 11.01.2022 Mt Compass Market Report Just under 700 cattle offered. The first market for 2021 ranged from fully firm to 40c/kg dearer in places, compared to the last market prior to Christmas. Bulls were 25c/kg dearer, with cows up by 5c/kg. ... Trade steers were up by 15c/kg and heifers up by 10c/kg. Feeder steers ranged from firm to 10c/kg dearer, with the heifers following a similar trend. Vealers were also very popular, rising by up to 35c/kg in places, on the back of some very animated bidding. Store steers remained fully firm on the high rates of pre-Christmas. A small line of 306kg Poll Hereford weaner heifers had an outstanding sale to achieve $4.41/kg, selling for $1352/head. Very light store steer calves topped at $4.80/kg making $1,340/head at 280kg. A line of export weight steers sold for $2,081/head, weighing in at 514kg. A large line of MG/Holstein X steers, weighing 505kg, sold very well to achieve $1,804/head.
