25.01.2022 I have been busy the last few weeks putting together a recording and film clip. Here it is! A cover of Silje Nergaard's "Shame on You." Thanks to Mike Raine for his hard work as sound engineer and video producer.
18.01.2022 Choir of High Hopes are very excited to be a part of the You+Me=Community Festival happening at the Ranelagh Village Green on Sunday, 9th April. The Festival aims to make it easier for people with disability to make community connections and all members of the community are invited. We are on stage at 12.30pm, however, we are also giving the opportunity for people to come to a workshop at 11am, learning three songs, then sing with us in our live performance. See flier below for more details.
18.01.2022 Lovely to see the Huonville Festival of Carols going ahead this year. We have a few students singing!
17.01.2022 I have put together a jazz band for tomorrow night's fundraiser at Glen Huon. Will be playing from 6-7 with Oliver Gathercole, Matthew Ives, Malcolm Martin and Ian Cocking. Come along and support Enid in her fundraising!
16.01.2022 Spent a delightful morning at the Hobart Eisteddfod supporting two of my "temporary" students. Well done to all entrants. The standard of singing was fantastic.
14.01.2022 A pleasure to be invited to sing a few numbers for a 1920s themed birthday this weekend. Thanks to Amber Leatua for taking pics!
14.01.2022 This year is the Centenary of AMEB and they put the call out for people to submit a video to be a part of their "AMEB Online Orchestra." Congratulations to student, Saila, who entered, and guess what? She is the very first singer on the video, opening the whole song! See the video of "Waltzing Matilda" below. Well done, Saila - you are amazing!!!... Shyamali Jayatunge Perera https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJmUVGK_nYY#action=share
11.01.2022 I am very excited that after a nine year break I am playing the Plaintiff in G&S's summer season of Trial by Jury at Hobart's Supreme Court. I first played this role in 2000 alongside Darren Sangwell and I'm so thrilled to be reprising it this year with Darren playing judge again. Although I missed the first weekend due to being away (thanks to Cassie Ogle for filling in) I am back in the wedding gown this weekend. Performances at 6pm & 7pm : Friday, 11th, Saturday, 12th and... Friday, 18th. Final performance 6.30pm Saturday, 19th. https://www.facebook.com/events/289078461749906/ If you have never seen Trial by Jury (or even if you have) you mustn't miss it. It's an hilarious 40-min romp as the Defendant and Plaintiff face-off trying to win support of the Jury under the watchful eye of the Judge who comes up with the most ridiculous solutions to the problem. Far from being outdated "Trial" is just as relevant over 140 years after it was first produced (if not more relevant!). Tickets are $25 adults, $20 concession, $15 child (6-16) per $70 per family and are available through the event link here. The Natural Voice: Singing and Breathing Studio has a big presence in the cast with teacher Kieran Haydn Slicer in the ensemble and understudying the role of Judge; Charlotte May, Millie Snow and Louise Stubs playing the bridesmaids; and Lana Mack, Isabel Snow, Kylie Cahill and Dilon Perera featuring in the ensemble. --Eleanor
09.01.2022 Anyone who sings will attest to the many benefits from exercising the vocal cords. Here is a video shot by UTas student, James Kitto, exploring the healing power of music.
07.01.2022 I found this video in the archives this morning. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3075410779215241&id=684477034975306&sfnsn=mo&d=n&vh=e
04.01.2022 History repeats with a twist!
03.01.2022 It's amazing to think of the students I've had over the years and the many wonderful memories they've given me but I think one of the best moments was receiving a message from one former student to say he'd proposed by singing a song we worked on together :)
