20.01.2022 The lack of stock in the Sydney market pushed auction clearance rates back up to their highest levels since COVID-19 restrictions began, with early reports suggesting sales in 70% of the listed 245 auctions during the past week. Compare this to the same time last year, the clearance rate was sitting at 57% with 587 properties being auctioned. Perspective when following the real estate market is key, with the amount of stock significantly affecting the result. There is no consideration for the number of private treaty and off market sales results either, which has been the preferred method of sale during the COVID-19 restriction period.

03.01.2022 The Vacancy Rate for Inner Sydney hit a historic high of 5.1% in May, evidence of the extent of the pandemic and its impact on the Sydney Rental market. The last time vacancies were this high was in June 2002, almost 18 years ago. As many people give up their inner Sydney rentals for more affordable suburban options, it is likely that rents will continue on a downward projectile as landlords will need to offer a more competitive and attractive proposition to secure tenants.
