24.01.2022 As of COB yesterday 63,201 people had cast their vote at an early voting centre for the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly election. This compares to 9,664 votes cast at the same stage of the previous ACT election in 2016. *Note: There has been eight days of early voting so far. In 2016, there had only been 4 days of early voting undertaken at this same stage of the election period. ... 21.01.2022 Around 80,000 Canberrans are expected to visit one of 82 polling places open from 8am to 6pm today. More than 215,000 voters (70%+) have already engaged with the voting process by voting at an early voting centre or applying for a postal vote. 20.01.2022 Candidates for the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly Election will be formally declared at 12 noon on Thursday 24 September with the event to be live streamed. In-person attendance by candidates, media and the public will also be allowed subject to mandated COVID-19 safety limits. Anyone wishing to attend or view the live stream must RSVP with us by 12 noon on Wednesday 23 September.

20.01.2022 If you’ve recently changed your address, you have until 6.00pm on the 11th September to make the change on the electoral roll. If you’re an Australian citizen, eighteen or over, and not enrolled at your current address, or not enrolled at all, visit the Elections ACT website to enrol as soon as possible. Remember, enrolment and voting are compulsory!



19.01.2022 The Belco Party (ACT) have officially been entered on the register of political parties in the ACT and is now eligible to nominate candidates for the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly election. Parties wishing to register for ACT elections must submit a list of at least 100 members and a copy of the party’s constitution to the Electoral Commissioner. Any political parties not yet registered for the October 2020 ACT election have until 30 June 2020 to submit an application for of...ficial registration to the ACT Electoral Commissioner. 18.01.2022 The names of the applicants who wish to contest the casual vacancy in the electorate of Yerrabi following the resignation of Mr Alistair Coe will be announced today at 12:30 pm by the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Damian Cantwell AM CSC. The computerised count to determine the successful candidate will be conducted immediately thereafter. The names of the candidates and the result of the count will also be posted on the Elections ACT website at www.elections.act.gov.au. ... ACT Legislative Assembly vacancies are filled by conducting a countback of those ballot papers that elected the vacating member. In effect, those electors who voted for Mr Alistair Coe determine his replacement. Media representatives and members of the public are welcome at the declaration of the names of the candidates contesting the vacancy and at the computerised count. The declaration and the count are to be held at the ACT Legislative Assembly, Civic Square, 196 London Circuit, Canberra City.

15.01.2022 The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party (ACT) has officially been entered on the register of political parties in the ACT and is now eligible to nominate candidates for the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly election. Five further applications to register as a political party were submitted to the ACT Electoral Commission just prior to the deadline for new party applications at midnight 30 June 2020. Those parties were: ... Australian Climate Change Justice Party Australian Federation Party Australian Capital Territory David Pollard Independent Democratic Labour Party (DLP) The Canberra Party Parties wishing to register for ACT elections must submit a list of at least 100 members who are ACT electors and a copy of the party’s constitution to the Electoral Commissioner. Members of the public are entitled to object to an application for party registration if they consider that the party is not eligible to be registered. Anyone wishing to object to the registration of any of these five parties may lodge a written objection with the Electoral Commissioner by 23 July 2020. The objection must be in writing, set out the grounds of the objection, state the objector’s name and address and be signed by the objector. A copy of the applications and the constitutions of these parties are available for public inspection at the office of the Commissioner between 9.00am and 5.00pm on business days. 14.01.2022 There are only seven weeks left for new political parties to apply for registration for the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly election. New parties wanting to run candidates in the 2020 election need to submit their application for registration to the ACT Electoral Commissioner by 30 June 2020. Applications must be accompanied by the constitution of the party and the names of at least 100 members of the party who are on the ACT electoral roll.... The candidate nomination period for the 2020 ACT election does not open until 11 September and will close at 12 noon on 23 September. Both party and non-party candidates must wait until this nomination period to be formally recognised as a candidate in the election. However, there is nothing prohibiting a prospective candidate from engaging with electors well before the nomination period. 13.01.2022 Sixteen political parties are registered to field candidates at the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly election. The register of political parties in the ACT has been amended to include five more political parties. The Australian Climate Change Justice Party, the Australian Federation Party Australian Capital Territory, David Pollard Independent, the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) and The Canberra Party all are now newly eligible to nominate candidates for the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly election. 11.01.2022 Moved house recently? Time is running out to update your enrolment for the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly election. The completeness of the ACT electoral roll (99%) is once again the national benchmark and recent legislative change means the small number of people who are not yet enrolled can do so right up until the final day of polling. 02.01.2022 With two days of early voting remaining in the 2020 ACT Legislative Assembly election, a total of 152,143 votes have already been cast at early voting centres. With more than 21,000 postal vote applications also received, this equates to almost 60% of Canberrans already engaged in the voting process.
