13.01.2022 What a way to finish off 2020!

11.01.2022 [TW: drink spiking, drug abuse and sexual violence] Electric Community, It’s been brought to our attention that there have been alleged instances of drink spiking at our venue (ie, people drugging other people without their knowledge, often with violent consequences). We sincerely thank the brave women who came forward for sharing their stories and experiences with us. Too often these crimes go unreported, which only fuels the fire for more casualties.... It has always been our top priority that our guests feel safe in our venue, and although we felt that we had put forward measures to prevent this kind of behaviour, if we have let you down, we apologise. We are so sorry for what has happened to you. This behaviour is intolerable and inexcusable. We do not blame those who have come forward with their stories, nor will we advise our guests to cover their drinks or avoid accepting drinks from strangers; women already know all of this. The fact is that drinks don’t spike themselves and we seek to address the real problem, not just advise victims to exercise caution as a preventative measure. We can only prevent what we can see whilst on the job, so it comes down to stopping the behaviour at its root, where we can’t see from behind the bar. It comes down to you to call out your mates. We know that only a small percentage of men are perpetrators of violence (let’s call a spade a spade), but many allow inappropriate and sexist behaviour to slide, which only strengthens the conditions that allow violence to happen. Enough is enough. Additionally, if something has happened, or you think something is going to happen let us know. If you see something, say something. We’ll believe you, we’ll be discrete, and we’ll deal with it. How are we dealing with this issue? In light of the recent alleged incidents, we have taken the following measures: - We do not pour double shots over the bar. - All areas, with the exception of the main bar, are being closed off until CCTV has been installed in these areas. We will make you aware when this happens. - We will be implementing Scantek at the front door. - We have revised our code of conduct, and we reserve the right to remove anybody in the venue if we see fit. - We have created an anonymous form where our community can directly report any problems, which will be always checked and responded to in a timely manner by a dedicated communications team. This form is accessible via QR code throughout the venue, and is available through our Instagram bio. See the form here: https://linktr.ee/Electric_bar2021 If something has happened, or you think something is going to happen let us know. If you see something, say something. We’ll believe you, we’ll be discrete and we’ll deal with it. - Team Electric
