20.01.2022 We would like to provide the opportunity for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 to participate in ethics classes at our school. Ethics classes are taught by volunteer ethics teachers. In ethics classes children discuss topics such as: -imagining how others feel... -how do we treat living things? -how do we disagree in a respectful way? -fairness If you would like to participate in your child’s learning of these valuable lifelong skills, then consider volunteering so that we can offer the program to all stages. Ethics classes are held from 11:45-1:15 every TUESDAY. Lesson plans are provided by Primary Ethics, so you don’t need to create your own lessons. Ethics teachers receive full training through online modules and a comprehensive 2 day training workshop. The next workshop will be held at the Callaghan campus of the University of Newcastle in April. Grandparents and other members of your family and friends’ network might be interested so please speak to them about volunteering. If you have been considering teaching ethics or you know of a friend or family member who might be interested in volunteering, please visit the Primary Ethics website at www.primaryethics.com.au or contact the Volunteering Manager- north Maria McCarthy at [email protected] or 0410 348 574
17.01.2022 We are calling out for more volunteers so all parents, grandparents or friends of the school who are free on Tuesdays please get in touch to find out how you can help out. Volunteering as a Primary Ethics Teacher is fun, rewarding and a great way to get involved in our school.
17.01.2022 Ethics classes are currently not available at Eleebana Public School due to a lack of volunteers to support the program. Each week the children discuss a topic from the approved Primary Ethics curriculum. Ethics classes include scenarios, poems and stories, group work and activities to encourage the children to think about what they should do in different situations, about how those circumstances might make a difference and about the consequences of their actions. Children di...scuss topic such as: -imagining how others feel -how do we treat living things? -how do we disagree in a respectful way? -fairness Ethics classes are thought-provoking and give children a chance to practise skills like disagreeing respectfully with others. They will be encouraged to try to find answers to the questions posed by giving reasons, finding evidence and building on each other’s ideas. 15.01.2022 We had lots of fun today watching short films which had terrific ethical themes. This was a favourite! Have a great holiday everyone and we will see you next term
12.01.2022 Due to a serious shortage of volunteers we are facing the prospect of discontinuing Primary Ethics at EPS. The popularity of this program is evident in the huge number of children participating (over 200) but with only 2 teachers, we simply cannot manage. If you, or someone you know (grandparents, neighbours, friends), have an hour free on a Tuesday please get in touch. That's all you need. No experience is necessary and all training is provided. Please help! Students love these classes and they really do teach them how to think, not what to think. A great skill for life.
07.01.2022 Thank you for the messages of support! We have made the tough decision to discontinue Ethics classes but are actively looking for volunteers so that this is only temporary. Please continue to share our posts, tell your friends and family and get in touch. We have received some expressions of interest from people wanting to volunteer already which is fantastic. We will start training new volunteers now so we are ready to start again in 2018. Since ethics classes commenced at Eleebana PS we have only had the ability to offer 2 Terms of classes for each stage. If we get more volunteers we will not only be able to offer this again but will hopefully be able to offer a full year curriculum for every child enrolled in ethics. Thanks again. Let's build some support for this wonderful program!
