04.01.2022 Hello everyone, I had a question about dry & irritated hands from people who are washing their hands so many times during the day and using hand sanitizers with... alcohol. Sensitive, dry skin can be a painful condition to live with; it can be irritating and uncomfortable. Dry & irritated skin can occur as a result of allergies, over-drying & stripping the skin or stress. There is underlying inflammation in the skin that causes the skin barrier to become compromised. So the skin looks red, feels rough, patchy and may also be flaking. Exfoliating and moisturising are not enough; in fact, stay away from scrubs as this breaks the barrier down further causing more inflammation and flaking of the skin. You need to keep your hands clean during the day, but at night as you go to sleep, you can apply a repair cream to your hands and leave on overnight. If needed, you can get plain cotton gloves from the pharmacy to put over your hands to help infuse the cream into your skin. Calming & soothing ingredients will help to reduce the inflammation, so look for products formulated for sensitive & dry skin. Ingredients such as chamomile, allantoin, aloe vera, calendula, niacinamide, and sea buckthorn oil are great examples of soothing ingredients. Ingredients such as pro-vitamin B5, squalene, omega 3,6,9, and ceramides help to repair the barrier and strengthen the skin. A healthy barrier will keep the moisture in the skin, and this will alleviate the tight & dry sensation and smooth the skin.
