25.01.2022 Our Milton project is complete and now stands high on a hill like a glistening jewel in the neighbourhood. The selected Woodlands scheme incorporates a dark, warm-based grey applied to the external building background and a contrast warm white on the balcony walls in the foreground. All service doors, grilles and downpipes were painted in wall colour to allow the feature to be the foreground balconies, which represented crisp white ribbons wrapping around the building. 24.01.2022 A grand entrance to the inner city apartment. Statement floor is the moment of wow when a visitor enters. Then they are presented with a splash of colour in the "Into The Storm" artwork on the left, interesting linear design wall paper leading the view down the hallway or the intriguing hide and reveal design of the main living area beyond. @johndownsphotography

18.01.2022 No project is too small for the team at Elegant in Design to assist with. Newly renovated entry foyer of a residential building in the CBD, we were asked to select and supply lobby furniture. Individual chairs were chosen to replace the tired black leather sofa for more of a conversational setting. French navy upholstery references external building colours and repeating the gold linear wall detail a marble and gold legged coffee table was sourced. @johndownsphotography

17.01.2022 When concealing electrical cords is not practical, cable management does not need to be boring with this rainbow of colour options. We selected the red colour for an umbilical cord to match a red coffee machine in a kitchen renovation we are working on. To our surprise the client loved all of them and asked if she could have a rainbow cord umbilical. We love colour at Elegant in Design, how about you?

16.01.2022 Creating an open plan living area in this inner city apartment involved demolishing a wall to connect the new kitchen with the dining room. The units old bones were not fully destroyed and included in the modern innovations was the spot that used to house the fridge was reconfigured into a shoe and handbag cupboard for the master bedroom, and a recessed display cupboard was added to the dining room to again make the best use of existing spaces while increasing the room’s style and functionality. LED shelf lighting was used to create mood lighting and to better display with clients treasured glassware and chinaware. johndownsphotography

15.01.2022 A handrail doesn't need to be boring. In the inner city apartment this staircase was stained kwila timber and bare glass balustrade with no handrail, which didn't suit the modern chic interior design. So we painted the stair a dark warm charcoal to suit the floor, silver carpet runner was added to protect the main traffic area of the stairs and add a softer element. We custom designed a metal powdercoated handrail to sit over the glass. The proportions of the handrail references all the door hardware which is also powderocated in the same colour. @johndownsphotography

14.01.2022 A hallway adds interest to a home. It makes you wonder 'where does it lead to'. In the inner city apartment this corridor was created when the kitchen was rotated to open the floor plan of the main living area. A black and white linear design wall paper was chosen to lead the eye down the corridor and the pops of colour in the animal motifs continues the colour theme of the apartment. This wall paper from @houseofhackeny was chosen to reflect the quirky nature of our client. The native English animals are playfully depicting 5 of the 7 deadly sins. @johndownsphotography

13.01.2022 Jewel tones of Sapphire, Ruby and Emerald were the inspiration behind this calming, tranquil setting. I love the way a dark wall colour can be the perfect backdrop to showcase artwork or collectables as well as bring its own personality and drama to a space. @johndowsphotography

Sleek and slender with proportions to match the elongated door handles with the same colour and finish. A handrail with both form and function considerations. @johndownsphotography

11.01.2022 In the studio today putting together a selection of finishes for a townhouse renovation Elegant in Design are collaborating with Red Dog Architects on. When you are working on multiple projects so the studio floor becomes your best work station to play with finishes combinations.

10.01.2022 The metallic epoxy floor in our inner city apartment is the wow statement and major feature of this renovation. We thought we would pull back to the curtain and show you the magic. The colours will continue to move and react for 12 hours. The first image was taken just after the installation and the same entry shot was taken the next day showing the floor looking completely different.

05.01.2022 Sometimes a project starts with a statement piece and the inspiration evolves around it. For this inner city apartment project it was this Petite Friture Vertigo pendant light sourced from France. Its form reminded us of a lady's hat on Race Day so the concept was born and centred around the glamour of a day at the races. johndownsphotography

Grab your copy now at your local newsagency to get inspiration for your next renovation project. When engaging a designer it is a good idea to already have a look book of what you love. Sometimes it is the designers job to simply edit your ideas and pull together a cohesive scheme to create a stunning kitchen or room that your friends will be in awe of.

01.01.2022 Our clients of an inner city apartment building requested a new internal colour scheme to present at their annual AGM. A subtle monochromatic colour palette proposed connecting the external colours with the internal lift lobby space updates and unifies the building’s appearance for owners and guests creating balance and harmony. A warm neutral grey, Porters Elegance, was selected for all walls which compliments the newly laid carpet. Doors and door frames were highlighted with a neutral white, Porters White Flag, which lighten the internal corridor space. @johndownsphotography

01.01.2022 Custom colours of Sari silk and New Zealand wool were selected for this bespoke Conway rug from @therugestablishment Featuring a series of animated lines encased by a matching boarder repeated the geometric birdstick pattern used in the entertainment unit insert and repeated on scatter cushions on the adjacent sofa. 01.01.2022 Final images of the metallic epoxy floor in our inner city apartment. The team at Elegant in Design spent time considering and testing the colour combinations and then gave a brief to the installer of "walking on clouds". The brief was smashed with this amazing, jaw dropping interpretation of storm clouds. The final step is to apply a coat of polyurethane to protect the epoxy and create a hard surface.
