25.01.2022 Server ssdaus1 has suffered a SECOND FAILURE! When we were 50% of the way through the restore Grrrrrr. We are back online again, and will rebuild the server once more, and restore your data. We cannot give an ETA at this stage, only that this should be completed overnight at the latest.

25.01.2022 Another new website by Elegant Logic

24.01.2022 Server ssdaus1.phantomeffect.net is currently down while the disk is expanded.

23.01.2022 ***CANCELED due to variables outside our control! Sorry. It will be planned for a later time*** PLANNED SERVER OUTAGE at 11pm AEST. The server will be offline for a short period (5 to 10mins) while we upgrade memory to improve performance.... Web and email will be offline during this time. If you have any concerns, please contact Luke 0416 111 676.

23.01.2022 Did you get the AGL scam email? It is very easy to identify these scam emails. 1. Check the FROM: address (although this can be forged)... 2. Check the links before you click them. In Outlook, hold the mouse over the link and a pop-up should appear. In Thunderbird, hold your mouse over the link and look in the bottom left. For webmail clients (like Yahoo, GMail etc), hold your mouse over the link and look towards the bottom left (this may or may not work depending on your browser and its configuration). If you received one of these emails and clicked a link, you may be infected. CONTACT US for assistance. Just because nothing appeared to happen, doesnt mean youre safe! The malware attached to this thing will quietly encrypt all your files and documents and then demand a ransom. You have little chance of getting your files back! ACT NOW :)

21.01.2022 Most of you probably have Apple Quicktime installed (particularly if you have Apple devices like iPhones and iPads). Time to ditch it! https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA16-105A

21.01.2022 Make sure your PASSWORDS are STRONG! Brute Force Attacks mean hackers are trying to guess passwords (and no, they dont sit there typing in guess after guess - they use computers and digital dictionaries). If your password:... - is a name or a word - contains less than 8 characters - does not contain mixed case and character types then you are vulnerable to these kinds of attacks. And something like Elephant8 IS NOT secure. Making SECURE PASSWORDS that are EASY TO REMEMBER is not difficult at all. Ask me how :)

21.01.2022 OUTAGE ALERT: Weve had a problem with DNS which may have affected (and may still be affecting) your websites and email. We have worked with our provider to correct the problem, but DNS changes can take time to propagate around the entire internet.... If youre having any problems, please contact [email protected] What is DNS? https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System

21.01.2022 A relatively new way to abuse your technology...... We saw this just yesterday, with a clients computer showing a browser window in Chrome claiming that "Chrome is updating, please wait.....". Of course, it sat there for hours because it wasnt a Chrome update - it was a javascript using-up processing power on the computer to mine crypto-currency. These javascripts have legitimate uses (e.g. websites that give you the option of not displaying ads in turn for using your com...puter to mine currency), but of course scrupulous people are devising ways to fool you into running the same scripts (or in the case of this article, abusing ad networks to get them to you). If your computer seems bogged down and slow, you could be mining crypto-currency for someone - check all browser windows and tabs, close anything that you didnt open yourself...... or just call Luke 0416 111 676.

19.01.2022 Another fine website for a local metal spinner. Feedback is welcome :) https://astol.com.au/

19.01.2022 My first website for my first client on the sunny Sunshine Coast :) https://sunshinecoastwaterpurifiers.com.au

17.01.2022 More RANSOMWARE. We recommend using an anti-ransomware tool such as Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware (not to be confused with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware). NOTE this is in BETA stage and may require regular monitoring for updates (manual installation is usually required - updates have not been very regular). https://forums.malwarebytes.com//177751-introducing-malwa/

17.01.2022 SERVER REBOOT: The server ssdaus1.phantomeffect.net is going down for a very short period to install some security updates.

16.01.2022 Thank you for your patience with yesterdays incident. It was a BIG ONE! We were extremely unfortunate to have to suffer the data loss, and even more unfortunate to suffer two major incidents in the one day (clearly they were related, but we may never know the what and the why). Thankfully, daily backups on our end were available to restore everyones data and minimise any loss.... Note that mail delivery yesterday may have been affected, resulting in delivery notifications being sent to senders (however these should not have been hard bounces or failures, but simply advice that their outgoing servers will try to resend their mail). If you have any problems or concerns, please call Luke 0416 111 676.

15.01.2022 Still being bugged to install Windows 10 and dont want to? (I dont recommend it!) NOW is the time to do something about it, before you wake-up one day and find its already been done without your consent (this has already happened to several people). Contact Luke for a quick solution :)

14.01.2022 THIS WILL BE GOING AHEAD IN APPROX 2 HOURS.

14.01.2022 UNPLANNED OUTAGE: The server is currently offline and is being investigated. UPDATE: BACK ONLINE.

12.01.2022 Have you received invoices to your inbox from legitimate businesses, for services you never received or requested? BE AWARE that these have contained links to malware! Weve seen this happening frequently over the last few months, and almost all of these malicious emails have come from a legitimate service called MAILCHIMP. Its a powerful tool for sending out mass email to users who have opted in to your newsletter etc. So how come a legitimate service, using legitimate busi...ness names, has been affected like this? More than likely..... POOR PASSWORD SELECTION. Legitimate MailChimp accounts have most likely been compromised through password guessing. This is only effective on accounts which have poor passwords. We cant stress the importance of using strong passwords enough on all services you access over the internet. You might think that security is not a concern for you but this latest spree of dangerous spam is a fine example of how YOUR poor password choices can affect OTHERS! How do you create passwords that are strong, but easy to remember? Its fairly simple. 1. Use at least 10 characters - the more you use, the more secure your password will be. 2. Use both upper and lowercase. There are 26 letters in the alphabet - by adding even just one capital letter to a lowercase password, you are adding another 26 possibilities, making your password stronger. 3. Add at least one numeral, for the same principal as above. 4. DO NOT SPELL any words or names in full. Hackers guess passwords using digital dictionaries. If your password can be found in the dictionary, its vulnerable. 5. Dont use common numeral-to-alpha substitutions either e.g. replace the letter L with a number 1 - these substitutions are also in a hackers dictionary. SO pick a word or phrase you can remember, break it into 2 or 3 parts with randomly chosen numerals, change a lowercase letter or two to uppercase and now you have a secure but fairly easy to recall password. BAD PASSWORD: albatross STRONG PASSWORD: aLba5tr9oss Contact us if you are concerned about your passwords! NOTE: Its also possible that passwords were phished from users. Read more about phishing here: http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/definition/phishing

12.01.2022 SCAM ALERT ... If you receive a call from TELSTRA telling you you are having internet issues, BE WARY! There is a very high chance you are talking to scammers. The incident I have just dealt with came from the number below. These guys claimed to be from Telstra, calling from a Melbourne number (which in my experience, Telstra always calls from a Sydney number). They had my client performing tasks inside the MSCONFIG application..... still not sure what their gig was but they asked my client for a sum of $1000 to fix their non-existent internet problem. STAY ALERT! Feel free to call me if you ever have concerns. https://au.shouldianswer.net/phone-number/0390057690

12.01.2022 This could potentially affect anyone who uses the internet! A list of affected sites is here: https://github.com/pirate/sites-using-cloudflare

12.01.2022 The increase in malware-infected / hacked websites has been felt by us recently, as we have assisted in rescuing quite a few website owners (ALL Wordpress sites, by the way!). Googles graph shows the increase just in the last month. If you run a website, particularly a Wordpress site, make sure you are up-to-date and stay that way by checking in to your admin section regularly.... Its also important that if you do perform updates to Wordpress or plugins, you should test things to make sure they still work post-update - many things can break. Take regular backups too and keep a long history of them. If your site is completely trashed by a hacker (and it happens), sometimes reverting to a backup is the most efficient (or the only) way to get back online. CONTACT US if you need assistance. Dont wait until you become a victim! The job becomes a lot more difficult (removing blacklistings, seeking and eliminating backdoors in your website, repairing damaged files). PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE!

11.01.2022 The server ssdaus1.phantomeffect.net is currently down due to a failure on the host node. The data centre are working on the problem right now. No ETA.

10.01.2022 Please be WARY!!

10.01.2022 YOUR PASSWORDS HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED! Weve talked about this before but the issue is (and probably always will be) relevant. You can read about the most recently known breach (and one of the largest ever) here (January 2019): https://www.troyhunt.com/the-773-million-record-collection/ In short, hackers are publishing username and password combinations on the internet for other criminals to use and abuse....Continue reading

09.01.2022 SCAM ALERT: "I saw what you did". There are more of these going around right now, and we've recently seen some that have the author claiming to know the victim's password - and it seems the passwords they're claiming to know are legit - either current or old passwords. Some clients have been quite shocked by these emails - the content of which usually revolves around claims of them being caught either visiting porn sites, or videoed via webcam doing........ ummmm something pe...rsonal! FEAR NOT. These are most likely scams. If you're unsure, send us a copy and we will try to alleviate any concerns you have. "BUT HOW DO THEY KNOW MY PASSWORD?!" There have been many breaches over the years of various websites, whereby login credentials have been decrypted and published online. There have been other kinds of breaches as well. Once these blackmailers can associate an email address with a password on one of these leaked lists, they can make a claim about knowing one of your passwords, and be fairly certain they add some legitimacy to their threats by including it. If you'd like to know if one of your accounts has been a part of a breach (and chances are, you are on one of these lists), you can search your email addresses here: https://haveibeenpwned.com DON'T PANIC if you find yourself listed. The best course of action is to change passwords for ALL of your online accounts (even the ones you don't care much about). AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, choose different passwords for each and every service you use online. Contact us if you have questions or concerns. Happy to help :)

08.01.2022 CANCELED once again due to variables outside our control. It will be scheduled again soon. PLANNED OUTAGE: The server will be going OFFLINE at approx 11.00pm AEST this evening for an upgrade. We cannot properly estimate the length of time it will be offline for, but it should only be 5-10mins.... During this time, your websites and email will not be available. Any mail delivered to you during this time should be re-delivered within a couple of hours. If you have any concerns, please contact Luke ASAP 0416 111 676.

06.01.2022 SSL is now becoming a must-have! Elegant Logic can provide you with a FREE SSL certificate for your website = no ongoing cost. Just a setup fee of $35 (for those hosted on our platform).... We recommend all website owners have these installed ASAP. Contact us to get started.

05.01.2022 "Tuesday morning we published a post showing how 6.7% of all attacks we see on WordPress sites come from hacked home routers. In the past month alone we have seen over 57,000 unique home routers being used to attack WordPress sites. Those home networks are now being explored by hackers who have full access to them via the hacked home router. They can access workstations, mobile devices, wifi cameras, wifi climate control and any other devices that use the home WiFi network."
