22.01.2022 There is a lot of misinformation in the media with regards to the changes to legislation around pets in rental properties to take effect from 1 November. Properties advertised from this date must state if the tenant requires the owners permission to keep a pet at the premises. Owners still have a right to say no, however they need to apply to ACAT to get it enforced. What I am reading in the media is largely irresponsible, implying that tenants can just go and get a pet when ...there is an actual process which must be followed first. A large number of owners on our portfolio are more than happy to have a pet at the property, I have a pet myself (our dog Rocky below), so that is not an issue for us.
