25.01.2022 Public Liability explanation....

24.01.2022 Merry Christmas cheer from Gayle and Marcus at Elements Insurance. I’ll be available over Christmas period as technically the office doesn’t shut so please don’t hesitate to let me know if any issues (or if any expensive gifts need insuring). Emergency Claims Services You may have your preferred tradespeople but if needed for emergency make safe repairs, we do have a service agreement with the following phone contacts: 1300 831 094 for the IA Johns Lyng Property Claims Emerge...ncies and 1800 815 414 for O’Briens Glass Emergency Repairs. All the best to yourselves and families and wish you more success in 2020 ! Regards Marcus

24.01.2022 Notice that the office will be closed until Thursday 23/11/17 while attending a Dual Insurance leadership challenge in the Blue Mountains. Phone and emails will be monitored but there may be a slight delay in response time.

23.01.2022 With less than six questions answered I can provide a Cyber Crime insurance quote. Its becoming a unfortunate necessity as much as you'd lock your front door at night to protect your belongings, you should be putting safeguards in place. Hackers with various means can steal a lot more from your business by going online. This affects your income and also exposing customers when accessing your address book.

23.01.2022 Its not about delivering results to shareholders but delivering results to customers, was the rally cry at the Suncorp Synergy presentation today. The moral and ethical focus is a trailing shadow from the Royal Commission into financial services. General insurance was not a main concern but still has the stigma of being guilty by association with other products that let people down.Timely now to get the best from your broker in a service driven industry. We do the product comparisons and then stand by you in the event of a claim, usually for a lower premium if you tried to obtain cover yourself. #elementsinsurance

22.01.2022 Caution mind and body working at heights. The elevation of attitude results in inspirational outcomes. I would not have been on the side of a cliff nestled snugly in a harness gripping a rope with the catch phrase of thumb up your bum being reminded to me (abseiling terminology at its finest to describe the dominant hand keeping the rope behind you), without the invitation of Dual Insurance. The Blue Mountains - the scene of the climb. Our base camp located in the pictures...que Megalong Valley. Twin share tents complete with beds and a welcome wetsuit for the next day. The welcoming dinner accompanied by our hosts Damien Coates (Dual), David Howden (Hyperion Group) and team leader James CAS Castrission (My Adventure Group). A two-course dinner, boutique wines with a departing sun in the valley of sunset coloured mountains. Over the next few days we would abseil, climb, swim, hike together and would also laugh and get to know one another for what we do inside the office, and who we are outside the office. Nothing breaks the ice like changing into a 10mm wetsuit, climbing into a crotch harness and hardhat, and jumping into water to help team mates climb and swim through icy water filled canyons and crevices. The mindset also challenged by the fear of risks that we are pre-occupied by, especially in our industry. It is a proud moment when you have done something difficult and came out the other end knowing that you have conquered something special. #elementsinsurance #marcushamill #myadventuregroup See more

18.01.2022 One of our clients new restaurant Maria Carribean Kitchen located in Toowong. A lot of the decor they made themselves along with a lotta love in the kitchen - two thumbs up review!

17.01.2022 Big news highlighting negligence. Thankfully technology is addressing flood mapping with gps links with internet based quoting. Flood exclusions hit Brisbane hard with the river snaking its way through so many of our suburbs. Tough times and hopefully policy holders in better positions and using brokers rather than direct insurers to provide options. #floodinsurance #elementsinsurance

17.01.2022 Had the pleasure of visiting a client in the valley and doing some quality control taste testing. Highly recommend the roasted BBQ pork roll. You can find Banh Mi Time in the mcwhirters building. Do yourself a flavour!

17.01.2022 Donations required please. Over the years I've raised in excess of $23,000 via the Oxfam Trailwalker event. Asking for your generosity once again please. Our team of 4 including myself and Mark Lee from Insurance Advisernet will be hiking the 55km event on the 23rd June from Lake Manchester through National Parks finishing at Mt Cootha. A few bucks goes a long way for Oxfams signature event. Its tax deductible at the good time of the year and we appreciate your messages of support. 16.01.2022 Conference time and the dedication to charities by Insurance Advisernet is incredible. A serious effort raising over 150k for Beyond Blue Act for Kids Love Your Sister to name a few. New benefits for clients on the way with online access. Onwards upwards #insuranceadvisernet #iaconf17 #elementsinsurance

16.01.2022 Well done to Insurance Advisernet being a finalist in the large broker of the year category. Elements Insurance a part of the big family and while we didn't take the title looks like we're backing the right horse in the company of larger international broking institutions. Proud to be punching above our weight - onwards and upwards!

16.01.2022 For the benefit of clients and those interested, I've put together this short video on the response of insurance to the coronavirus. Any further follow ups you're welcome to contact [email protected] as I do have a formal response I can share. Stay safe. #insurancecoronavirus #elementsinsurance

16.01.2022 INSURANCE SCANDAL? The Courier Mail published an insurance scandal on the 6th March that could potentially put thousands of Queensland disaster assessments under a cloud. Focus was on the Cyclone Debbie home assessments that thousands were undertaken by unlicensed builders to determine a scope of works. Case examples provided a case where Glenys approached an independent agency to assist her stalled claim. Ironically this was also a claim assessment service with the qualifi...cations of loss assessing not a licensed builder. Which gets us to the main point, that Insurers appoint assessors qualified in loss adjusting to provide a report for the rebuild by licensed builders. Where did that scandal go? The same day I read in the NIBA Insurance Advisor magazine that by the end of March 98% of the 73,000 registered Cyclone Debbie claims would be resolved. The focus of complaints is directed at tradespeople rather than insurers being problematic and this is due to the event being catastrophic and the overwhelming demand for urgent repairs. The Courier Mail also failed to mention the role insurance brokers, which could’ve helped Glenys from day one. Personally, I helped a family friend with a storm damage claim in Yeronga where a Norfolk pine had fallen through their house. The direct Insurer offered $210,000, and nearly a year later we had a settlement of $450,000 finalised. This was assisted by independent engineering reports to quantify differences in materials, removal costs and labour. The offer of an upfront cash settlement can be enticing in moments of stress with your family home of 40 years in tatters. The recognised need for an insurance broker by mainstream media would not only help community awareness but eliminate the ambiguity of insurance itself. The disaster events are not caused by the insurers, but the subliminal message is guilty by association. Hard work is not isolated by the tradesperson doing repairs, it is a team effort of many and the figures suggesting the bulk of claims have been completed should be congratulated.

15.01.2022 Farm claim paid when previous broker had advised client not to submit it won't be successful. Clients reaction is what its all about; That just seems too easy Marcus. Thank you so much. Next please....... #farminsurance #businessinsurance #elementsinsurance #commercialinsurance

14.01.2022 Exciting conference with great things on the horizon to improve client communication and our services. Bunch of rock stars!

13.01.2022 Is your building unoccupied during the COVID-19 outbreak? Unoccupied buildings pose a big temptation to thieves and arsonists, so what can you do to protect you...r assets? One good strategy is to have the right insurances in place so that your risks are significantly reduced, but there are other measures that can also mitigate these risks. These measures include removing or securing combustible materials, boarding doors, windows and roller doors, as well as installing CCTV cameras and hiring security. 12.01.2022 Insurance for your business is like brakes on a car. Not to make it stop but to give it the ability to go faster safely One of the thoughts from an informative and slick presentation from Vero and partners at their Synergy roadshow today. Last word provided by Todd Sampson with enough body hacking to make people squirm in their seats. One simple brain challenge to brush your teeth with your left or weaker hand for a month. Challenge accepted. #toddsampson #synergy #elementsinsurance

12.01.2022 Insurance Advisernet and one of their Insurer partners, TravelCard, travelled early last month through bushfire affected towns on the NSW South Coast (starting ...in Batemans Bay, traveling onto Mogo, Moruya, Bermagui, Cobargo and culminating at Merimbula). We were fortunate enough to have Travelcard’s corporate ambassador Catriona Rowntree with us given our purpose was to demonstrate these towns are open for business following the damage sustained. The IA Foundation also took the opportunity to donate funds to hard-working local charities involved in the community’s recovery where over $50,000 was donated to worthy groups assisting this cause. We encourage anyone thinking of their upcoming holidays (when it is safe to travel) to consider these wonderful coastal and historic towns as well as any other catastrophe affected townships across the Country. 11.01.2022 Relevant article, especially around end of financial year when businesses purchase additional equipment, machinery, and office contents.

10.01.2022 If you run a business please consider. This is a good article to simplify the fundamentals of Management Liability and Directors & Officers Liability. Basically Public and Products Liability covers your business from actions against you from third parties / customers with possible negligence. It is highly recommended that a business also insures the risks of managing a business internally. Quotes can be sourced on their own or packaged with a business policy depending on your needs. If you're in business - protect it.

09.01.2022 If you know of someone that needs guidance with bushfire claims or just to explain cover benefits to assist, please share my details. I'm a member of the panel representing National Insurance Brokers Australia NIBA. The service offered is for those that are not clients of Elements Insurance, but have no representation to guide them with claims and the emotional process may seem daunting. Here to help if needed. #elementsinsurance #bushfireclaims

09.01.2022 In times of adversity, the ongoing problem exists of apathy. The article quotes poliiticians requesting compassion by insurers, and yet makes no mention of any communication they have had with insurers. I can assure you they have responded swiftly to process claims and to look after their customers. Insurers also made a community based decision to make flood cover more widely available after 2011. So with a householders policy, there would be the possibility of flood cover, storm damage as standard, then benefits such as emergency accommodation, spoilage of food, and daily expenses. If you chose to use a broker this would be handled on your behalf. The emotional scapegoat rage disappoints me with public comments from the ABC's post when the help is already out there. And has been long before these events happen. #abcnews #floodinsurance

08.01.2022 Corporate Travel Cover - for those of us that don't have Chuck's phone number. If you have an ABN you are eligiable to receive Emergency Evacuation, Unlimited Medical, Kidnap and Ransom cover to name a few benefits that are unfortunately becoming frequent events. Cover includes business and leisure travel for directors and family. Elements Insurance has access to a discounted cover with higher limits and a quote can be provided with less than 6 questions. Usually minimum premium applies less than $800 a year tax deductible. Don't leave home without it!

06.01.2022 Our weak point at the moment will be our increased reliance on the internet, online trading and interaction. Cyber cover has never been so crucial. Will be sending further info re cover and costings and it would be strongly suggested. #cyberinsurance #elementsinsurance

04.01.2022 LATEST RELEASE FROM EMERGENCE INSURANCE CYBER SPECIALISTS Notifiable data breaches scheme looms The ramifications of cyber hacks are about to increase dramatically.... From Thursday 22 February, Australia’s notifiable data breaches (NDB) scheme comes into force. The scheme requires notification of unauthorised access to, disclosure of, or loss of information likely to result in serious harm. The NDB scheme means your clients cannot keep silent on data breaches and hope for the best. From 22 February 2018, breaches must be reported to both the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and people affected. A wide range of entities are at risk and the statistics are horrifying. For example: 63% of confirmed data breaches involved leveraging weak, stolen or default passwords and usernames 22% of small businesses breached by ransomware attacks in 2017 were so badly affected they could not continue operating 41% of people surveyed globally could not identify a phishing email; 30% of phishing emails were opened and 12% clicked on infected links or attachments. The number of Australian businesses using commercial cloud computing services had risen from 19% to almost one third in just one year and just because your clients’ data is in the cloud, doesn’t mean it is protected. Lax security is frequently to blame for breaches. We suggest you advise your clients to review their arrangements with cloud and other third-party service providers and, where possible, encrypt sensitive information before disclosing it to third parties. Claims experience at cyber specialist Emergence Insurance shows that: Multiple backups are a must Whether or not the NDB scheme is triggered in a ransomware attack, business impact and reputational damage can be substantial Encryption can effectively protect data. Your clients are only as safe as their weakest link. A cyber insurance policy is part of every successful business’s risk management framework. Cyber insurance is not the first line of defence; it is designed to protect a business when its IT security, policies and procedures fail to stop an attack. Emergence is a pioneer of cyber cover in Australia and provides protection for SMEs through to ASX-listed entities. Its cyber product includes instant access to an incident response team of experts who understand the importance of immediately mitigating potential threats to insureds’ businesses. Emergence’s product gives businesses financial support and incident response expertise to recover from adverse events, including ransomware attacks, point-of-sale intrusions, denial-of-service attacks and cyber espionage.
