24.01.2022 TOURS Along with our beautiful clients from Eagle Bay, @jessosheadesigns and I toured all the selections we have been putting together to create their new renovation. How important this is when pictures and samples just don’t do the products the same amount of justice. Lift, Flooring, Fireplace Stone, Appliances, Rugs, Furniture, and Benchtops were all viewed. ... 22.01.2022 RUG LOVE I absolutely Loved being part of this shoot for Amy @ohh.happyhome We had some limitations in terms of it being in my home so my furniture was what it was and the lighting was only as good as the sun, plus I had walls in my home (true) so this all played a part as to how the shots would turn out and where the photographer could stand.... Take all those limitations away and you are shooting in a warehouse and creating the light, creating a homely feel and a much bigger hire/buy staging cost. There are pros and cons to every option but for me this shoot was probably one of the best experiences as to how my home worked for this type of large scale product shoot. There were always some beautiful spaces but capturing rugs as the hero was sometimes a little tricky. 16.01.2022 PAINT OR REPLACE. What would you choose? ......... I have seen some great results with painting window frames in renovations. I find when I am helping clients update their exterior colours we are quite often dictated to by the existing window frame colour. Many clients want to change their existing home to show less yellow but their frames are parchment, cream or mission brown and adding a white render with cream frames just doesn’t work. Internally it’s not so bad as our wi...ndow furnishings cover up the frames generally but for the exterior it’s part of the whole story. 14.01.2022 Material Selection I love to research and ask questions, it is probably the part of being a designer I love the most. It means I go into a material selection with eyes wide open and I have asked all the questions I think you might ask me. It also means the colour and material selections get narrowed down much quicker which saves you time and money.... 12.01.2022 A great read and most of these thought processes we are aware of but this has been articulated well. I especially love this quote by Adele McNab Architecture Pinterest can be a great tool to collaborate with clients and workshop concepts, but my job is to see an image that might be a bit monotonous and break it down to what it is that the client likes about it it might be the timber stain or an element of the door. It’s about picking out these elements and building on them.
12.01.2022 Growth I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since I was lucky enough to create this contemporary space. I have been looking back at my work and realising how much I loooved this space but also what I might do different next time.... So if I look in and critique my own work I might have not used white sheets and I would have kept the solid timber bedsides. Overall I am happy with the scale of the pendants but I think the space could have handled a larger version. These are all things you may not notice but I think it’s important to continually review your own work and find out ways to improve on your skills every time. 10.01.2022 Styling for Display Homes can be fun. You can choose items to style and decorate based purely on style. In someone’s personal space you have the added bonus of including functionality and personal additions that’s speak to the family living in the home.... I love nutting out with clients how we make their homes both stylish and functional and how their decorative spaces feel like they tell a story about them and not just styling from a picture. It’s definitely a balancing act and since hanging up my display home boots a couple of years ago this has been one of my fave parts of my job. #styleinspiration #interiordesign #interiorstyling #designinspiration #coastalliving #perthdesign
10.01.2022 GRATEFUL I am so lucky to work with and meet such great people. Since starting in the office with @danielcassettaidesign I have been able to meet amazing clients who are open to the design process and willing to take small and big steps in their homes design finishes, architecture and materials. Creating bespoke homes often means not having images to fall back on from Instagram or Pinterest so we are asking our clients to put their trust in us and our design sensibilities.... 10.01.2022 MOMENTS It’s nice creating moments in a home. ...commonly referred to as Vigenttes, over time I have come to realise that often these vignettes are not forever and they truly become a moment. ... It’s like the reason for these items to all be together changes and so does the vignette. These moments also become reminders of a time, a situation or feeling. It’s important to create a space for moments in new homes it might be in an entrance or a living room or in your kitchen. 08.01.2022 Serious Splashback Decisions I know windows in kitchens are the perfect addition to bring in nature and light and take the splashback decisions out of your hands but you have to ask yourself..... What is your view going to be? ... What is the gap between your window and the fence? What type of sunlight does the space outside your window get? These are the questions you must seriously think about before you make the decision for a window splashback. 01.01.2022 I love that there is a flip side to the design story. A design journey is not always about starting with the visionary end result. What do you think? Is it worth keeping a little bit of the the end result excitement as part of the process or would you rather know exactly what you are getting and working towards achieving the exact image in the visual? Personally, I have found the best design process is that, that presents itself as the home or room unfolds, not that one th...at you expected before you started. It’s the story of the space evolving that becomes the personality that is most discussed, enjoyed and loved and that’s because it is the most authentic and organic.
