The development represents the last piece of the puzzle on a constrained site within an operational village. 07.01.2022 Revealing the Museum: From old vines to gold veins To celebrate the official opening of the WA Museum Boola Bardip this weekend our heritage team will be sharing a series of stories, highlighting some of their favourite aspects of the project. Be sure to keep a look out for these features when planning your visit! The design of the new museum is striking, but did you know it was inspired in part by the Museum’s collection?... The search for gold and other minerals led to government geological collections and the establishment of the Geological Museum in 1891. An article published in the West Australian on 1 May 1894 provides an evocative description of these collections noting: Here along the entire length of the passage are to be seen many of the exhibits. Just inside the door is a huge mass of quartz ... with a vein of gold running through it. The Museum retains a significant Geological collection today and it is fitting that this continuing history has informed the new design. Look closely and you will see the visitor movement and circulation paths externally and internally expressed through this same band of gold. : State Library of Western Australia, Trove and the WA Museum Boola Bardip #WAMuseumBoolaBardip #heritage #design #gold #collections #museum
