16.01.2022 Expected changes to a Parent Visa stream. A new visa will allow parents to stay in Australia temporarily, but will not allow them to apply for permanent residency. If changes are approved by Parliament, visa applicants will be able to access a three year visa for $5,000 or a five year visa for $10,000 with a single renewal for a further five years at the same price. Parents will have no access to Medicare and their children would need to cover the private health insuran...ce costs. 01.01.2022 Dear all, I would like to remind you again about possible (and expected) changes to a Partner visa pathway. Please read below and contact me if you believe that proposed changes may affect you in any way. Changes to Partner Visa Sponsorship... Australian immigration law is complex and changes very frequently. The Partner Migration Amendment (Family Violence and Other Measures) Bill brings with it changes to Partner Visa sponsorship. We explore these changes below. What the New Process Involves Under the Amendment Act, the sponsorship application will have to be lodged and approved by the sponsoring partner before the Partner Visa application can be lodged. The sponsoring partner will also be subject to sponsorship obligations, which, if not met, could result in the cancellation of the Sponsorship. The requirement to assess the sponsorship application will likely lengthen the visa application processing times, which are currently 12 to 18 months. What Changes Mean for Partner Visa Applicants The new legislation can affect applicants in several ways, particularly those intending to apply from within Australia. Onshore (within Australia) Applicants The requirement for sponsorship approval prior to application lodgement are likely to cause difficulties for many visa applicants residing in Australia on temporary, short-term visas. The applicant may struggle to submit their Partner Visa application before their short-term visa expires, and therefore may have to return to their home country and continue their application from overseas. Offshore (Overseas) Applicants Offshore applicants may also be affected by the changes, as it is expected that visa processing times may increase. This may result in a longer wait before partners are reunited in Australia. What Should You Do?
