15.01.2022 Good morning challengers, this week we wanted to touch base with you on why Oats are such a great staple food and in your Nutrition Planners! Oats are a low glycaemic index (GI) carbohydrate. Low GI essentially means the carbohydrate is digested slowly which: Provides a slow release source of fuel for the body.... Helps keep you fuller for longer. Avoids peaks and troughs with blood sugars (i.e. no crashing like you may experience after a sugary cereal hit) Note - quick cook rolled Oats and instant Oats in the box or sachets are not Low GI. They will not fuel you for long or leave you as satisfied. The best pick is Traditional Rolled Oats and if you want to go even better go for Steel Cut Oats! Steel Cut Oats go through very minimal processing so are even lower in GI and have a nice nutty flavour. They do tend to take a bit longer to cook due to more grain structure being intact, however if you soak them overnight they will cook in five mins. Why else are they great? They are a great source of nutrients including B vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre. Particularly with Fibre, Oats contain a fibre called Beta Glucan. This key ingredient does wonders in the body, acting like a sponge in the small intestine to bind cholesterol = cholesterol lowering benefits. Oats are super versatile so keep it interesting when you have them. Try: - Adding cinnamon - Cooking with seeds such as chia or linseed - Add blueberries Have an awesome day members see you in the gym! #TEAMEHP

Finished the year with a banger! Our Tri Challenge for the Males was: 800m Concept2 Row - 40 Cals Airbike - 20x Wall Balls for time and for the Females: 500m Concept2 Row - 25 Cals Airbike - 20x Wall Balls for time!
