09.01.2022 The last I did this kind of photography was back in Malaysia probably 5-6 years ago. It's called steel wool photography. I had wanted to do this here but didn't really got into it until today. Well, since it poses a fire risk, a pier surrounded by water would be the best location . Just had to make sure that no one was around. As I was all alone on the pier and no one to assist me to capture this shot, I had to think of how to remotely activate my camera shutter while I was... on the bridge. I wanted to approach this shoot with more than just focussing on the steel wool element, therefore I decided to be on the bridge at a higher level with the height advantage and the river below the bridge to create reflections... But I had to figure out how to activate my shutter release remotely. Voila... WIFI...!!! I then set-up my camera on a tripod on the lower dock platform, pre-focussed the camera and flicked to manual focus. I set to manual exposure mode at 30secs, ISO200, f/8.0. Switched on the Wifi (thank goodness for technology), had it connected to my phone. I then walked across to the pier bridge with my headlamp. And with live view streamed from the camera to my phone via Wifi connection, I'm able to see and position myself to where I should be on the bridge for composition. Remotely activated the shutter release via the phone app, lit the steel wool and spun extra hard so that the hot embers can reach the camera creating the streaks. Here's the outcome. Steel wool light trails at blue hour on the pier.. .
