12.01.2022 It was in mid-1957 when I was invited by my school's friend Mauro Bonifacio to try rock climbing in Val Rosandra, Trieste Italy. I knew Val Rosandra very well as a very young boy aged six I followed my sister Rita and her boyfriend. Mario in lengthy walks there. Mauro already a good climber with the CAI XXX Ottobre. We met at my place from there we walked about 1.5 hours to the cliff called: Falchi ( Falcons ) there Mauro pointed out the route we will follow to the top, two ...pitched grade 4. We roped together I used a shoulder belay and he was off, then it was my turn. After reaching with some trepidation the final pitched I realized that rock climbing was going to be an integral part of my life. I thank you, Mauro, for showing the way of climbing which is with me ever since. See more

10.01.2022 Grotta delle Gallerie ( Tunnel Cave ) Trieste Italy During 1954 / 1956, I was an assistant in digging under the supervision of Francesco Stradi a local who has spent all of his life digging in many caves in the Triestino Karst for the remain of early occupation. The Grotta delle Gallerie is located at the foot of mt Stena in Val Rosandra, extensive excavation was made by two Triestini's archeologists: Marchesetti and Battaglia. It was believed that they dug the entire entranc...ed of the cave. The finding was amazing, with lots of fragments of pottery, worked flintstone, animal bones, someone was finally carved. By the thickness of strata and ash, the cave was occupied by the Neolith family for thousands of years. During the sample digging, we did in 1954 in a far corner of the cave which wasn't dug before exposed at once many fragrant of pottery, bones, and flintstones. Over the 1954 winter, I dug a large deep area of approximately 5 square meters. At the end of each working weekend, I did carry out in a rucksack all the finding which I delivered to Francesco's house. During winter 1956, the deep of the hole went down to over 4 meters, and it was the most rewarding like the finding, a long sharp bone which was used for sewing, two tintadere, which were used by the man in the clan for body marking before going off hunting. Another very interesting finding was an intact vase that had a square top and four handled. This was the first time in the history of archeologic dig in Trieste that such pottery was found. At the end of 1956, the walls around the dig collapsed and sign the end of our excavation in this amazing cave. See more

08.01.2022 Happy July everyone! We just want to give the community a heads up that we will be taking a group of climbers to White Rocks, aka Wickerslack, on Sunday, July 1...9th from the morning into the early afternoon. Please be aware that the crag may be a bit crowded that day. As always, if you come to White Rocks on a day we are guiding a group, we will do our best to share the space. Correction: we will unfortunately not be able to share our ropes with independent climbers due to COVID-19.

The bike was stored in a garage near where I lived. We used the bike manly on weekends for a climbing trip locally and to the mountains.
