However the most important think I found at this age for my child who is fixated in becoming a professional football player was to educate myself about the path to become a professional player and the steps required in acheiving that. It is as follows: Youth elite soccer player path to playing professionally: ... Ages 5 9: Join local travel teams with good coaches and good connections. Who have the ability to organise a tour with a schedule packed with a variety of activities including various skill levels of friendly games to gauge your kids ability and measure his skill level against other players. Ages 9 12: Join your first outdoor team and work hard to become one of the best in your region. Attend soccer camps abroad to broaden your knowledge of the game and measure your ability against different skill level players Ages 12 17: Join a High Performance Football Academy for 1 4 years. Ages 15 18: Consider joining a High Performance Football international Academy for 1 4 years to broaden your knowledge of the game and expose yourself to other football methodologies and styles Ages 18 21: Play at a Division with coaches who know how to get into the higher division clubs who have a history of producing professional players. Prepare to be invited to these clubs and hopefully someone will recognise your kids ability and give them a genuine opportunity on the big stage Ages 21 24 (perhaps earlier): Recruited to play professionally.
