24.01.2022 Are you experiencing hip pain? Bird dog is an awesome exercise for anyone experiencing hip pinching or clicking! How can it help the front of your hip, you ask?... Well, the reason we can have pinching or clicking in the front of the hip, is because of our hip flexors (psoas & Illiacus) are either tight from sitting all day or because we aren’t able to engage our lower abdominals and glute muscles together simultaneously! This over uses our hip flexors in movements such as squats, lunges and lower ab exercises like flutter kicks, which creates that pinching / clicking! The bird dog exercise is used to strengthen and coordinate the lower body (glute muscles) and our upper body (core), so that when we complete complex movements we can engage all the muscles at once, instead of our hip flexors. Birddog is a quite complex exercise progression and some really common mistakes I see with this exercise is, arching in the lower back which indicates that the lower abs aren’t switched on and lifting of the leg is too high which can hurt the lower back! Bird dog is to be performed in a single block motion, with as minimal movement in the torso, making sure those Lower abs are switched on! Your back foot pushing through the heel, glutes engaged and the opposite arm extending, bringing the core up and in, all while breathing! If you’re experiencing any hip clicking or pinching, give this a go! P.s Don't forget to tag us in your posts for your chance to win a free massage

22.01.2022 We all know the common stretches for the length of the neck but how do you stretch those horrifically uncomfortable headache generating muscles at the base of your skull known as the sub occipitals? Easy. First chin tuck making a double chin. Then side bend slowly. Then slowly rotate while maintaining the previous positions and you got it. #neck #neckpain #disc #relief #pain #injury #fitness #chiro #physio #activereleasetechnique #stretch #rehab #rehabilitation #pilates #performance #massage #strong #strength #exercise #brisbane

21.01.2022 Glutes and low back? This ones for you. The figure four stretch is a great stretch to open up the hips and fascia from the back. Unlike the last stretch we went through this one doesnt put any pressure on the knee and is much safer. Cross one leg over so you ankle rests just above the knee then grab the other thigh and slowly bring to chest. You should feel a gentle stretch through the hip. Hold for 30 sec and repeat 3 times each side #hippain #impingement #pain #hipinjury #hipstretch #hiprehab #squat #squatpain #lunges #fitness #rehab #exercise #gym #mobility #stability #chiro #chiropractic #massage #physio #physiotherapy #sport #elitehp #brisbane

19.01.2022 Have you taken a tumble and injured your wrist or know someone who has? This can lead to some significant injuries which have long term implications. Apart from the common muscle and ligament strains we commonly think of there is another more sinister problem. This issue which can go undetected in chronic wrist pain following trauma is called Keinbochs disease. Sounds scary and yes it is! So what on earth is this Keinbochs disease. This injury will occur follow trauma to a s...mall bone in the wrist called the scaphoid or the lunate. These are at the base of the thumb. A small hairline fracture often undetected on an X-ray can over time disrupt the bones blood supply and slowly the bone doesnt get enough blood and it begins to die. This process is called avascular necrosis. Worst case scenario the dead bone needs to be surgically removed and a prosthetic one is replaced into the space. Good news if it is recognised early by a trained therapist the treatment isnt as significant and recovery is fast. So how do you know if you have Keinbochs disease. Commonly there is trauma to the area. Touching the base of the thumb joint at the wrist hurts, stretching the joint toward the pinky side of the hand hurts and compressing the thumb joint into the wrist hurts. If your therapist suspects this injury CT or MRI is best used to identify injury and put you onto the right path of treatment immediately. If you have lasting wrist pain of more than 3 weeks. Dont ignore get it assessed and treated quickly. #wristpain #gripweakness #gripstrength #carpaltunnel #injury #wrist #wristinjury #nervepain #nerveentrapment #nerveinjury #nervetreatment #chiro #sportschiro #chiropractic #chiropractor #physio #physiotherapy #massage #remedial #remedialmassage #rehab #strength #prehab #training #power #boxing #pilates #elitehp #brisbane #treatment

17.01.2022 Do you get pain in your wrist when picking things up, twisting motions or even just when you’re gripping things like a coffee cup or more commonly your child? Has this been an on going issue or gotten worse after time? This could be a sign of a condition called, De Quervains tenosynovitis. So what is De Quervains tenosynovitis ?... De Quervains is pain located in the wrist, just under where the thumb and the wrist meet! It is commonly caused by repetitive motions at the hands or wrists, using fine motor skills like twisting and gripping things! This repetition causes the tendons of the two muscles that attach at the base of the thumb and run through the wrist, named Extensor Pollicis bravis (EPB) & Abductor policis longus (APL) to become inflamed and painful. So how do we fix this? To treat De Quervains Tenosynovitis, we use techniques such as ART (active release techniques) to break up adhesions in the muscles that have been laid down to protect the joint while inflamed, dry needling of the forearms muscles like EPB and APL to decrease inflammation, increase blood flow to the area and speed up recovery time. It is also super important to decrease movement initially in that thumb and wrist joint until it is not inflamed anymore, and out of the acute phase. We do this by using a splint for the wrist or taping to decrease the ability to irritate the joint more. 08.01.2022 The levator scapulae muscle runs from the inner upper edge of the shoulder blade to the upper cervical vertebra. It is a huge player in neck pain and is often jacked up with either poor posture or poor scapula mechanics with pressing or overhead movements. This stretch is great at relieving tightness in the muscle. Lower the affected shoulder then look down toward the opposite armpit and apply gently overpressure with your hand. I recommend holding this for 3 sets of 30 seco...nds #neck #neckpain #disc #relief #pain #injury #fitness #chiro #physio #activereleasetechnique #stretch #rehab #rehabilitation #pilates #performance #massage #strong #strength #exercise #brisbane

04.01.2022 Have you been struggling holding onto weights or gripping bars at the gym? Do you feel tight, fatigued, or sore through your forearms or wrists? If yes, you may have issues related to your grip strength. Grip strength is so important for everyday life and exercise. When we can’t do this to the degree that we want to, other aspects of life are limited. Take deadlifts for example, if your grip strength is garbage you will be unable to lift heavier as you can’t maintain your gri...p onto the bar. What can cause poor grip strength and why could you be experiencing it? The forearm and hand muscles can be overloaded from repetitive gripping or potentially poor technique. This can then affect grip strength as the muscles are tired. Underlying injuries or condition can definitely be a factor. These range from arthritis, nerve irritation, carpal tunnel syndrome or more commonly a tendinopathy of the forearm muscles. We use a range of tests to find the cause so that we can treat you specifically. For improving grip strength we use active release technique and dry needling to release the tight muscles/tendons so that we can improve your muscle function. Once we see improvement, we move onto rehab so that you gain strength in the areas needed. If you or someone you know feel like you may have issues with this then get in touch today as we want to help.
