22.01.2022 Happy Hump Day!

21.01.2022 Its been a long time between posts here at E.P.H.T, but rest assured we are still treating horses, and excited for the longer days ahead; which means more riding for us all!!! Having horses massaged after a spell, contributes to comfortable return under saddle, which means happy horses and less resistance Over the coming weeks we will be introducing some of our amazing regular clients, who are accomplishing incredible things with their horses. These people not only make ...my job thoroughly enjoyable, but also make me proud and honored to support such amazing combinations Our first introduction is of my smallest but sassiest client Beryl; show name Carreg Wen Athena. She has incredible movement, and muscles to work on, which has earnt her the reputation 'Little Warmblood'. In fact, I work equally as hard treating Beryls as some of my 17hh clients She proves that size doesn't matter; and has an incredible work ethic, and super confident and affectionate disposition. Her latest accomplishment was winning the 2019 Hufglocken Grand National Child's Ridden Shetland in Sydney. Biggest congratulations, and pats, and carrots to you Beryl, and to Emily who takes such amazing care of her Professional Photo by Lisa Gordon

19.01.2022 EPHT would like to send out a huge applause to our amazing clients who were awarded for their hard work, and dedication over the weekend. So honored to support such amazing horsewomen and their horses. Especially in a cause that is close to my heart; giving Off The Track Thoroughbreds a second chance in ridden careers. As mentioned in my previous post, Nikki Cook took out the Racing Victoria Acknowledged Retrainer of the Year award; congratulations Nikki! Jessica Tainsh and... her beloved Punchy (Punching in a Dream), took out the Equestrian Victoria Off The Track Eventing Horse of the Year. It has been amazing to watch this horse develop, and grow stronger, and more athletic over the years under Jess's guidance. And lastly, but with so much heart; Emily Yeoman and her chestnut gelding Gilbert (Formal Alliance), who was awarded with the Equestrian Victoria Off The Track Dressage Horse of the Year. The win in particular was emotional, and bittersweet, as Emily sadly lost her beautiful boy this year. What an honor to his memory This is part of what we aspire to do; support talented riders, keep their horses comfortable and happy, and cheer loudly from the sidelines when all of their hard work pays off You guys are amazing!!!

17.01.2022 CARTILAGE, TENDONS, LIGAMENTS... What's the difference?

17.01.2022 We will be in the Teesdale/Bannockburn area next Thursday 3rd September, and have a couple of availabilities left. Please DM or text for an appointment

16.01.2022 I saw this quote today and it made me reflect on the honor and rewards involved with retraining and/or rehabbing horses. I am very lucky to support riders and trainers that specialise in retraining Off The Track Thoroughbreds, this often involves extensive body work along with correct training to rehabilitate muscles and old injuries and assymetries from racing careers. Along with this, there are riders that have inherited 'old' issues, and are dedicated to process of bring...ing a horse back to a state of comfort and health (mental and physical). It truly is a privilege to be a part of this process; to see horses gain confidence in their work, whilst a bond is formed with their two-legged counterpart. If you are retraining a horse, starting a young horse, rehabbing, or coming in from a spell; we would LOVE to help you on this special journey

16.01.2022 Just a quick post letting all of our clients and their beautiful ponies know that we will be galloping out of office, from the 11th of February until the 3rd of March. Our last day of treating horses will be the 10th of February - and first day back the 4th of March :) During this time I wont be able to respond to messages, texts or calls. If you're happy to leave a message, I will get back to you as soon as we re-open. If you're needing a horse looked at in the near futur...e, please let me know asap so that I can fit you in prior. I hope 2020 has kicked off in a spectacular way for you all !!! :) Yee haaar!!!!

16.01.2022 EPHT is honored to support a number of horse professionals in the industry, that are directly involved with starting, retraining, rehoming, and educating horses for a variety of disciplines. Today I wanted to acknowledge one of our clients, Nikki Cook, from Shory Park Horses; who specialises in the retraining and rehoming of thoroughbreds that are off the track. Nikki is an astute businesswoman, with a huge heart, and cares for the comfort, wellbeing, and future of every hors...e that enters her property. Working alongside professionals that have this passion makes is contagious; and if there is one things we ALL have in common; is that we care for the betterment of the horse. I also want to acknowledge the girls that work for Nikki, with their patient manner, and and understanding of each horse they ride, it makes it easier for me, as a therapist, to get to the bottom of any presenting issue. So many horses have been given a second chance because of the hard work and dedication of trainers like this, and i applaud you all!! https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10156008223821012&id=510546011

11.01.2022 https://instagram.com/p/4ssdG1rw2o/ Just a little post from our Instagram page noting the importance of considering conformation when assessing a horse prior to treatment. A horse’s conformation (the way their body is put together), has direct bearing on locomotion, and consequently areas of tension, and possible soundness issues.... Prevention is always better than cure, and it is vital to consider a horse’s ‘weaknesses’, and how to manage them in order to optimise athletic ability Have a great weekend with your four legged friends all!

11.01.2022 Get creative with your training! Get creative with your pole work! Grand Prix horses especially can benefit from the strengthening and gymnastic benefits of incorporating poles into your schedule on a regular basis #proprioception #inspiration #gymnastics #foryourhorse

11.01.2022 Congratulations RRS Racing and Performance Horses an absolute testament to your patience, empathy, and knowledge as a trainer. I am SO thrilled for you!!!

06.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW... The horse's heart - The average adult horse has a 3.6kg heart. - The heart grows until the horse is 4 years of age, although it can increase sli...ghtly in size as a response to conditioning. - Heart size does not necessarily correlate to the size of the horse. - A larger-than average heart has been documented in certain high-performance racehorses. Pictured here is Australian legend Phar Lap's heart, weighing in at 6.4 kg. - The biggest recorded heart was that of US track star Secretariat, at an estimated 10 kg! - The normal heart rate for most horses is 32 to 36 beats per minute. It can be raised as a result of illness, stress, and anxiety, which is why is it an important health indicator. - The hooves are considered part of the circulatory system of the horse as the frog helps to pump blood back up towards the heart as they move. #horsefacts #performance #equineathlete #equestrian #racehorse #OTTB #thoroughbred #healthyhorse

06.01.2022 It’s not everyday you get a helping hand from a feathered friend So blessed to have worked with some beautiful horses this week

06.01.2022 Had such a great afternoon getting our geek on together with Equine Studies Students, talking about anatomy and physiology, and how it applies to training our horses. Such an awesome hands-on group; I was really impressed with the knowledge they already had coming into today's lesson. Finished the day painting some of the major muscle groups onto the gorgeous models provided by Wallington Park Equestrian Centre. Hopefully you all never look at a horse the same way again (in ...a good way ). Big thankyou to Leanne for inviting me to come and teach about what I love to do. It was an absolute pleasure!

06.01.2022 When they give back Did you know that one of the 11 primary types of natural horse behaviours include epimeletic behaviour; displayed in mutual fly swishing and grooming exhibited within herds. This is care-giving behavior is important because it helps create social bonds. According to recent studies, "feel good" hormones are increased in horses that have undergone mutual grooming sessions, horses also have preferred grooming partners!! Not only does sports massage remove t...ension, adhesions, fibrous knots, trigger points. It stimulates circulation, and the lymphatic system with long strokes along the entirety of the muscle; flushing out toxins and waste products, while delivering oxygen and other nutrients to damaged tissue thus promoting healing And to top it off, you're beloved steed gets a healthy dose of those 'feel good' endorphins!!! It's no wonder they love to return the favour with a nibble, and a lick during and after treatment. And I, for one, LOVE their displays of appreciation! It's amazing just how much they want to communicate to us, when we take the time to listen Please DM, or text 0408 926 202, if you have any questions or want to book a sports treatment for your horse

05.01.2022 So Proud of our upcoming stars, and your beautiful horses!!!! Hard work ALWAYS pays off, your dedication is a testament to this :)

04.01.2022 How's your Sunday? Handsome Cal is coming back into work, some soft-tissue therapy to take care of any niggles, and ensure he is comfortable

03.01.2022 We are currently located in the Mornington Peninsula, and are thus opening up our books to new clients in this area! I am still treating my usual clients in The Bellarine :) Whilst horses are being schooled, educated, and trained; their muscles are still acquiring tension, and general wear-and-tear. Comfort for our four legged friends under saddle is still paramount! Whether they are currently competing, or waiting for their big debut :) I would love to help you, talk to ...you about your goals and concerns regarding your riding partner; and most importantly - FEEL the difference in your horse under saddle after sports soft tissue manipulation. Please DM for availability!!! Please note: social distancing and other precautions apply during COVID-19, am happy to abide by individual agistment centre regulations :)

02.01.2022 With all of my treatments, with all horses, and all riders; my number one priority is that there is a notable difference after treatment. Whether that difference is an increase in performance, an improved willingness to work, resolution of mechanical issues or lameness, a positive change in temperament, or that the rider 'feels' the difference. In the correlating photos we have Valentine, a gorgeous grey gelding I was privleged to treat just prior to a race. The results spe...ak for themselves. From finishing at the end of his field for a number of races, to placing second, by a nose after treatment. Why does sports massage help performance horses compete and train at their best? We focus on the muscle in entirety; the attachment points, the fascia, the muscle belly, the blood supply, trigger points, fibrous tissues, scar tissue and adhesions. Nothing within our fingers reach is left overlooked This has numerous benefits: Long sweeping strokes in particular directions along muscles, stimulates your horses circulation. This removes waste products and toxins, stored in the muscle after heavy training; and draws in fresh oxygen and nutrients. It helps to drain the lymphatic system. What does this mean for an athlete? Faster recovery!!! Increased healing, minimises injury, and reduces muscular pain. No wonder horses on regular treatments report a happier disposition, faster progression in their training, and fewer to none work related injuries! Increased ROM (Range of Motion), in the muscle. How does this help your horse? Increased mobility, athleticism, and a longer, ground covering stride!! Or for our dressage horses; more supple and bigger movement relevant to your horses breed and conformation. Reduced Pain! If you’re an athlete, sports massage prepares you for your best performance. This also means less pain and injury that can limit performance. Massage reduces fatigue and relieves muscle swelling and tension (inflammation). This means horses are happier to come into be worked, and more willing during their work So many new clients report their horses disposition changes following treatment. This also allows your horse to focus on the job at hand, and not be distracted or hindered by pain during competition. There are so many more benefits! But as riders and trainers I feel these are the most relevant to you. A good sports therapist is a secret weapon. Superior trainers and riders are aware of this. Let us support you, and your horse to perform at their best willingly

01.01.2022 EPHT would like to send out huge commendation, and applause, to one of our clients Georgie Birrell; who has a few noble steeds including Mooshie and Ziggy, a couple of firm favourites It's such a pleasure to support partnerships like these for a few reasons. Firstly, that Georgie always has the best interests of her horses at heart, ALWAYS making their comfort under saddle a priority. Secondly, she is a talented horsewoman, with a great feel who listens to her horse. Nev...er assuming that resistance under saddle equals 'naughtiness', but rather takes the horses temperament, and work ethic into account, and investigates deeper causes that may be contributing to out of character behaviour (Ziggy's success under saddle, is a testament to this!!). Thirdly, she sets her horses up for success! Georgie doesn't wait for physiological 'niggles', or tension under saddle, before addressing problems. She schedules bodywork in during heavy work periods, before competitions, if they are coming in from a break, or even just because she knows them so well she can predict that they will be due soon! She ensures they are on a balanced diet, are ridden with tack that fits, and maintains their hoof balance. Congratulations on your amazing ride at Adelaide Georgie! The smile says it all Always such a pleasure to visit you, and your beautiful boys!
