17.01.2022 To everyone in Townsville, we hope that you are all at this point safe and un-harmed. We have been paddling through the affected areas bringing supplies to some people and it is absolutely devastating out there. But, your safety is all we are concerned for, all possessions can be replaced. With the possible end of this catastrophic disaster in sight; we are looking forward to helping the flood affected victims clean up and help them in any way possible.... To any of our clients that have become a victim to the flooding, we are going to be volunteering our time and resources to come and help you clean up as soon as it is safe to do so. We hope that everyone is safe and un-harmed. We already have seen many clients as well as lots of other people that have lost everything and it is gut wrenching to say at the least. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we will be reaching out as we already have started to, to see how we can help. It has been a huge eye opener to just how harsh the weather can be but more importantly to see how our community has banded together to help one another in these times of crisis. We also want to recognize the huge task that the State Emergency Service - Northern, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services - QFES & of course the Australian Army have taken on. I can not begin to imagine the personal stress each of the members must have but also the stress that it puts on their families knowing they are out, risking their lives to save ours. We all thank you all for your efforts and selflessness over the past 7 days and for what is to come! We are also looking forward to getting back to work and catching up on all servicing that we have been forced to delay. Hopefully by the end of the week, we will be ready to start servicing and cleaning up what now look like swamps. 14.01.2022 The redevelopment of the Tobruk Memorial Baths on The Strand has achieved another important milestone with earthworks for the replacement 50 metre pool complete... and forming-up now underway. Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said contractors working on the project were now also working to remove the existing toddler pool, which was also being replaced as part of the $11.3 million project. The redeveloped baths will feature a new, wider 50 metre pool and toddler pool, as well as an updated filtration system, new shade structure and refurbished facilities, Cr Hill said. Tobruk Baths have served the community for more than 60 years and this project will ensure that it can continue to do so for many years to come. The Tobruk Memorial Baths were opened to the public in the 1950s and named in commemoration of the Australian servicemen that took part in the Siege of Tobruk. Infrastructure Committee Chair Councillor Mark Molachino said the project was part of Councils massive $409 million infrastructure program this year. Council is committed to providing the Townsville community with world-class infrastructure and the redevelopment of the Tobruk Baths is yet another demonstration of that, Mr Molachino said. Local contractor Jackson + Semler is doing a fantastic job, with an added benefit of the project being that it is supporting jobs for locals. The redevelopment is expected to support more than 120 jobs. Seventy-eight contractors have already been inducted on to the site. Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the project remained on-track to be completed by February. Its exciting to see the progress that is being made and, like plenty of other Townsville residents, I cant wait for the project to be completed and for swimmers to be back using the facility.
