23.01.2022 Child found unconscious in Rockhampton pool

23.01.2022 This is a interesting read.

22.01.2022 Below are some sobering statistics about drownings in QLD. During the 2016/2017 year, 73 people drowned in Queensland waterways. The breakdown of these drownings are shown in the graph The 2016/17 result is an increase of 5 death (7%) on the ten year average of 68 deaths. Of the people that drowned, 68% were male.... 13 drownings occurred in the age group under 5 years (about half of these were in backyard pools) 3 drownings occurred in the age group 5 to 9 years No drownings occurred the age group 10 to 17 years 6 drownings occurred in the age group 18 to 25 years 19 drownings occurred in the age group 25 to 45 years 32 drowning occurred in the age groups 45 years and over One of the most worrying things about these numbers are the ages 25 to 45 years and 45 years and over. They account for 51 our of the 73 deaths in the water ways, with a large amount being males. Source: https://www.rlssq.com.au/?show=Home

08.01.2022 Very important to watch your children when around water.

06.01.2022 If you have chairs or anything in your backyard that can be easily picked up or dragged to a gate by a child up to a 5 years old it might be a good idea to remove it. For more tips visit www.elitepoolinspections.com.au

04.01.2022 What a great plan.

04.01.2022 I am sure many of you have read the Courier Mail's 'expose' on Childcare Centre's failing to meet The National Quality Standards. Generally I don't waste time o...n trivial news items, although this is something I am very passionate about! Just ask those who know me... Firstly I would like to start by saying, great work Courier Mail for your informative story and 'exhaustive' list of centre's who have not made the grade. Although I feel this was just to add 'meaty tabloid drama' to your story because this information is already available and easily accessible for all the public to view, as well as displayed in the foyer of services who have been through the delightful Assessment and Rating process. Secondly...your story and list only serve to portray services who have been rated as working towards as second class centre's who should be ashamed and suggest they are putting children at risk. Aside from the few not so great services, this is FAR from the truth for the majority! Perhaps you could use your power for good instead of evil and investigate why so many services received this rating and what is actually going on. I would be more than happy to discuss with you about the process...from 'the other side of the fence'. In the case of our service...we went through this A&R process in January 2014 - almost 3 years ago. (If we were 'bad' surely we would be reassessed already, as many centre's have had 2nd assessments despite others not being rated as yet). Now over the past 3 years, as with everything, we have been on a journey of self-discovery and continuous improvement, meaning we are a very different service to the one rated all those years ago. But the Courier Mail's story doesn't outline this. Nor does it specify that while we did rate as working towards for Quality Areas in Educational Programs, Health and Safety and Physical Environments, we also received EXCEEDING in Relationships with Children and EXCEEDING Staffing and Meeting in all others areas. And the 'concerns' in the areas marked as working towards included such items as children wearing teething necklaces which is a 'health and safety concern for choking', children having chips at morning tea that the family provided (along with their centre provided fruit) and not having sustainability embedded with the children (ranging from 15 months to 5 years), although I know majority of adults who are still 'working towards' embedding sustainability in their everyday lives! We also were marked down for our educational program and planning which was a 'cookie cutter' approach we had incorporated from someone else. This is a lesson learnt and we have since dropped all things that are not our own. We do it OUR way and know that the service we provide for our children and families is amazing. So yes Courier Mail you are right...we are working towards...We are 'working towards' building better humans for our future! We will continue to do this...and continuously grow. I have no idea when we will face reassessment-hopefully next year. Our team and I have our heads high and get on with the important work we have to do. At the end of the day...the children and families are the assessors that matter the most to us!!! Cheers Courier Mail for trying to dampen the hard work that services and educators put in to jump through hoops that do not always mean quality education and care. Rant over Please feel free if you would like to chat to me about any of this
