05.01.2022 Dear 28. Jun Family, I am one of the 28. Jun volunteers from Australia and today I am writing to you all to share a heart breaking story about my new friend Nikola. This little boy broke my heart and deeply touched my soul with the first message he sent. With Orthodox Easter fast approaching we are all busy preparing for our most important and joyous Holiday. Nikola on the other hand is desperately trying everything he can to help his parents and four siblings survive. We st...ruggled to understand Nikola's initial message to our Facebook page as it was incoherent and full of spelling mistakes. Upon further inspection we realized it was written by a little boy who was desperately trying to express the hopelessness faced by his family. We were all heartbroken learning the details of his family's story. As we continued to communicate we learned that Nikola was a 10-year old boy from Kosovo. When we asked him what his family would need he responded with a plea for the most basic human necessities; a bed, clothes, shoes and food. We checked with our contacts in Gracanica and they were familiar with his story. His father is currently hospitalized, while his mother does the best she can to provide for Nikola and his two brothers and two sisters. They all sleep on the cold concrete floor in rooms contaminated with mold in their decaying house, which has resulted in severe asthma among the children. Please help me to keep the promise I made to Nikola. I cannot do it alone without your help, but together we can show Nikola that good people exist and that he and his family are in our thoughts.
