Im getting closer to finding a body , One of the best things I love about renovations is not just turning something out dated into a marvel but I really enjoy seeing how it was done in the first place! Waterproofing back then wasnt something that was pressed, the hob was rotten & I found this mass graveyard! & it stunk to heigh h...eaven! , found the reason, the plumber cut a massive hole in the subfloor to run the waste for the bath & rats got in, made a home in the bottom of the hob, they dragged snails, chestnuts, bones all under the hob . ~ But rooms are gutted, rough-in will be completed by tomorrow & got the subfloor getting replaced on this one next week ~ I am Booked up solid! 24.01.2022 All we have is NOW..... So make it count ~ Busy one today! Im sore but at the same time feel real good with what I done today, my whole life is having a conversation with my self to push myself to just keep going, breath and move dont stop to breath, but bolted the base of the stringers down through the sun floor, found out that they have a steel plate under the floor, but for some reason they didnt weld it in place , then pulled it down enough to make it solid & pu...ll out the twist that was in the stringer, the twist was out by 6mm now for the better part its nice and straight but it bows out in the centre I did actually have a good giggle on that one, then started setting up the brackets, my math is on point leveling them off from all axis & with the HPL level its all coming up on point! 24.01.2022 Custom & Quality.....it’s what I Love to do ~ So what your lookin at here, ain’t much, but she was a huge amount of work! Originally, this was just a solid base already made, & the client had a change of scene & really wanted to have a couple of cabinets made into the island..... I’ll be honest, my heart sank... sank deep, with only 3 days before install, I knew I had my work cutout for me. ~ The steel fabrication was complete, & the melamine mitered box already created, di...fficulty level grew, I laid the piece on the table & setout where I wanted what, grabbing the track saw branded @festool_australia to make the door cuts, cut clean with a clear 2.2mm gap around the doors. It only took an hour but, it was by far the longest hour of my life, one wrong move & not including my time, wave goodbye to a good chunk of dosh $$$ but just took my time & blocked out the noise that was yelling hurry up! & made the cuts needed. 24.01.2022 Lets start this week with a safety msg from your friendly neighbourhood Tradie! Dont Fcukn do this! ~ What ya think? Youd jump on this ~ One of the main reasons why I still have my fingers! I pack my dacks every time I use any machine or tool! It only ever takes one time! ... ~ So starting this week with a howya goin , took a little break from like this weekend cause Im about to hit 3rd gear. ~ Now you would be surprised how many times Ive seen incorrect machinery or tool use, look at the end of the day its your limb not mine! So think! I am a big believer in shop/site safety, this should have guards installed for a start! Second always use a jig! Especially on a big moulded like this! The blade coming loose on these is not the major safety problem here! Its the fact that if it grabs or kicks back! That open ended spindle can grab your arm & turn it into chicken food! ~ I had the glory of using one of them old spindles, with a 6 curves blade & it would pressure lock in place, no grubs no secondary locks, nothing! Just a double nut on top! I had a 6mm guard around the cutter head, the fence infront was 2 of solid timber bolted into a 10mm steel plate! And the jig was massive! Like I had armour in front of me! I never had a blade fly out of the cutting head! ~ But Ive seen with my own eyes, the tradesmen just passed his piece through, took a step to the side & just a Big Bang! Followed by a thud! Luckily the tradesmen was ok! One blade hit & shattered inside of the guard & the other flew out & lodged itself into the brick wall some 20m away! It was stuck in there like Excalibur In the stone but when they tried to take it out the blade was in half with a good portion of steel lodged in the wall! ~ This all happened when I was a 1st year apprentice, I was only 15 ~ So hows about we dont give this bloke a holla on the next job, but even though I am Booked up solid! 24.01.2022 Be so good they cant ignore you ~ See for me there is a reason why I enjoy preparing for polishing, I love to finish my creation to a paper grit finish, I know what your thinking, loco right , but no really, it allows me to finish a piece to an almost reflection finish & this was something I was taught in preparation to my time competing in the worldskills international competition held in Japan Shizuoka 2007. ~ The reason behind it, is finishing to this grade, allows the... craftsman to see all there imperfections in the timber they are working on & rectify them. ~ And also its allows the timber to show its true self, the grain will just glisten in the light, almost like the scales of a fish but nicer & then when the polishing stage is applied you get a greater in-depth look into the timbers grains, truly is beautiful in person. ~ Big Day! Like always, thinks started off with a bang! When I discovered a house lot of cabinetry came in machined completely incorrect, I drew it all correctly but the company I sub to cut & edge made the fall, were running g the same program but there machining side override my standards in the program & AAAARRRH!! Then I grabbed my old beltsander ready to sand these treads! 23.01.2022 Push yourself because nobody is going to do it for you ~ Tuned chisel + rough sawn endgrain on some Messmate = baby...... & a polished piece of timber ~ I got these well on point! Even had a little time to have a play ... ~ A well tuned chisel is a safe tool, blunt or dull and they extremely dangerous! ~ Big day, got the beam bolted into the bearers , also cut and installed all the OB joists! The pas nailer struggled bad getting a 90mm nail into some well seasoned OB hardwood, so I hand drove 100mm flats in with the M1, came in with a toe nail, 2 from one side and 1 to lock it all in place from the other, little extra work but takes the movable twisting right out of it! Had the hiking light on my head & marked, hand sawn cuts to get the last bit of joints in! 23.01.2022 Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain ~ This project has had some challenges! One of which was the good ol engineer not responding to phone calls or emails for 9 weeks & after getting a what I call reply with that can’t be done even after explaining why I wanted to pitch my own rafters & that a beam could definitely be designed to the load, you get told who are you, I’m the engineer & what your wanting is not acc...eptable... ~ What I needed, was basically 2 beams designed for the kitchen/ living area to support the roof load, due to the fact that I wanted to pitch my own rafters out of 140 x 45 to meet the old roof, with 240’s set for the hips & Vally ~ Main reason for pitching my own roof, cause this was a Reno, the original roof was a skillion/Dutch gable & I know from experience & experience of others that there may be a problem attaching trusses to the old section of the roof essentially considering how wide they needed to be but instead of the project being held up any further I spoke with a few contacts & had these trusses made, delivered on site In 3 weeks. ~ After talking with some mates, that are engineers, I came to the conclusion that what I wanted to do was achievable but for what ever reason the engineers that were allocated to the project just didn’t want to do the works. 23.01.2022 Life is not about how fast you run or how high you climb, but how well you bounce. #truth ~ Firstly; How Good Are These Levels Sola with there 60% focus vials ~ 2ndly did anyone check out the endgrain on these bearers & how good is the mitred scarf joint thats a chainsaw cut too ... ~ So I had an absolute Cracka of a day! Yesty I ran into a snag on the original floor of this house, so to the far left & right it kicked down like a donkey by 15mm & then in the guts she kicked up from level 34mm so there was a beaut hump sitting in the entry of this room, so I did what anyone would do, drove back to the bat cave & came up with a game plan , I didnt sleep... i know I wish I could just switch off but ~ Now today! After crackin open the coffee and sticking my face in the open jar, I inhaled probably a little too much but soon after made it out to site! I geared up, set Jack up in the front corner & I jacked the corners of the house up, shimmed accordingly &worked my way down until I hit the mother load, done some quick checks and calculations, before marking out the level height, lifting the bearers up by 75mm & cut down the concrete stumps, now cause the bearer was pressured up for such a long time the timber nature had a kink or bend in it, going up, which meant it gave me a little grief when I was tiring her back down. ~ So I grab myself a loose bearer, place it over the bearer I need to tie down, wedge in under the bearer to the right & get my straps & strap the higher end to the bearer bellow, almost creating a counter lever clamp ~ Now the existing floor is within 3mm, to the eye it is so nice and flat! 22.01.2022 ..... You Did Too Good A Job For What I Wanted.... ~ Um did that happen, Yes..... Was I disappointed...... also yes, I know that I shouldn’t have been cause delivering more than was expected is what one should do.....isn’t it? ~ Now this one was something else! Cabinetry, gets fully installed, then that fridge wall gets pulled out cause the colour went from white to black, then it was the cooker didnt come out to site as it was specified on the installation sheet I mean w...hen ever is it , dropped the oven down, installed a rail above to match the doors either site & re-ordered a new drawer front, I mean the only thing I had going at this point was doing my best work ha! ~ The bathrooms OMG! Personally I wanted to have a crack at tiling so I can understand what my tiler @allan_pirotta_tiling_service goes through & although the shower base was fun, I can no longer look at a subway tile I think I was laying about 5sqm a night, all this was also happening during Covid lockdown, so I was literally alone & luckily the joint wasn’t haunted , & yeeaaah that’s siht’s real! I’ve worked in some haunted houses before late into the night......buuut let’s leave that for another time. ~ The reality was, I was working in the freezing cold all day at the other project, putting on a good 12 hours in the mud then heading down to this joint from dark till about midnight, the days were long, cold & by dark freezing, worked on this joint for a good 4 months between, demo, plaster, cabinetry, painting, tiling, electrical, plumbing, stone, deck, repair to the eave & keeping the site clean. Top tread is leaning downward hard left, just for Sony’s & giggles I chucked my HPL Sola Level on it, at 750mm the tread is out by 13mm, that’s crazy! Safe to say I’ve been working with this level in between the lines, this level is as accurate as I need to be, shows discrepancies of 0.1mm, LOvE it! I remember the first time I gave these ones a crack & OmG! I nearly l...ost my marbles , the slightest movement & your out, now I’ve got it down to an art form, & for anyone curious HPL stands for High Precision Level or Helping People Live a better life cause your work is level ha! 21.01.2022 Legacy is Greater than Currency ~ This has got to be one of the scariest projects Ive been on, not because I cant get through it, but because Ive had to invest so much of our savings to keep the project moving to each stage. My family believe in me but the stress is real! Being my first major project, I knew it was going to be hard. A lot of people dont realise what goes on or how one gets through something so vast on there own. The truth is you can, with a lot of har...d work, passion & perseverance . There needs to be as much time spent into building the trust needed to get through it, having your hand out to collect for every single little extra thing you do isnt the way to keep that line open, so isnt being difficult and giving your clients or loved ones a hard time, being pro-active, passively thinking of whats next & showing the hard work will put you in a step in the right direction! It is uncommon to hear a builder talk about how hard it is, especially for your first few! My mindset and dedication isnt going to stray, nothings changed! Just the obstacle. ~ My Mrs still cant understand why I want to have this M1 in my bed at night absolutely LoVe it!! 20.01.2022 I dont think inside the box. I dont think outside the box either. I dont even know where the box is ~ Wha! Massive day! Got a couple of hours tomorrow to finish off framing walls & got the wrong LVL sent out to me for the middle of the back wall, I needed a 240 x 45 & Ive got a 190 x 45, so that will go in storage for the next one , & Ill grab some new KD in the morn. ~ Got the timber for the ceiling coming in on Monday! Should have a couple of days sorting out th...e raised ceilings! All exposed solid timber beams theres going to be no secret, Im going to cry , have half an idea on how Im going to get them up! So should be FUN! ~ Today got a large 310 x 82mm beam installed! Me & the young bloke nearly shat out dacks! But came up with an easier way to get it in! 20.01.2022 What You Tile.... Yeah I Had My Tiler Hat On ~ Been a big couple of days! & to boot this week is going to be massive! But! Had a meeting with the stair tread project after explaining how I need the stringer the client thought it would be a great idea if I made the modifications to the stringer than source another company, so in the process of crackin on to that! Ive got Saturday booked for polishing the treads! Cant wait to see that colour pop! ~ Then spent a few hou...rs on site installing a kitchen & scribing panels/fillers/kickers along with getting all the drawers made & fronts on! Thats ones coming! ~ Then cracked right into this bathroom! The worst part was only going outside in the -3 frosty night to get water so I could mix some glue but still gotta do what you gotta do to get it done. 20.01.2022 Super Easy Friction Hitch For Ya’s Today ~ This has become one of my favourites, it’s ridiculous how simple and effective this method is for tightening string line. ~ Busy few weeks! I have had quite a lot of great opportunity come through over the last few weeks, given the world status & so many in a terrible situation, I am definitely greatfull for being able to keep myself busy, but made me start to think about building the team, still a lot to think about but we can get... into that another time! ~ But! 19.01.2022 Life doesnt have any hands, but it can sure give you a slap sometimes.... ~ But hope this is useful ~ This for me is very common in my furniture making days, always find the need to carry clamps, nothing too big, a nice size F clamp goes sick & when its serious Ive got some straps I can use, I know its not something that really matters but I do like knowing what Im doing is acceptable to me.... ~ Went dark for quite a few days had a bit to get through & needed to concentrate. Then to top it off had an emergency to deal with at home, had some dodgy septic installers install our septic before we bought this place some 12 years ago! No service points & to top it off, they put the septic 1m underground & put the access points on top but didnt make them big enough so you couldnt get in to take the kids off &! Oh it gets better! Some smart muppet thought it was a great idea to screw the lids on from underneath so i ended up excavating the whole area, to good thing is that they used stainless steel screws so they where never going to rust ~ Ive got a bit of work with the plumber side, got to put in some access or service point & then Ill be building. 19.01.2022 I may look calm, but in my mind, This nail has folded over three times ~ Seriously! Dont ya just hate that when it happens! ~ Ive been in the industry for over 20 years now & I have never truly swung a hammer until I started taking on Renos! Its taken close to 1000 4 nails driven by hand through OB Hardwood until Ive actually successfully hit the nail on the head , the Gas gun! No chance, not through OB! Ive had 90mm nails bend back on themselves & go flying across... the room! & I could not tell you how many nails I have folded & made an S or a J. ~ I know a lot of Aussies are bah! Grab a nail gun! 17.01.2022 I had way too much fun with this! ~ Its all in the set-out..... think I nailed it ~... Crazy few! But today I had to jump on the bookwork! Smashed out quite a bit off the list! All I have left is tendering for a new project, & designing the risers for the beautiful spotted gum treads! ~ This took me a few hours, working with a busted up thumb, think its just over used, but I did enjoy it, Im kinda glad that even though Im clearly working 8 days a week, I can still take some time to appreciate what Im actually doing & also my boy @allan_pirotta_tiling_service has the bar set so high that I never want to disappoint ~ We all need to remember that we work most of our lives, so we need to find some form of enjoyment out of the days or your work will show it. 17.01.2022 I spoke to myself today, I needed an experts advice ~ Crackin our early again! Im in the middle of setting expansion joints in underlay & im about to head back out to this project! ~ So fun actually creating! I know its just pine but I took all the measurements I needed, set the section out & made all the cuts I needed , first spent half the day demolishing 4 walls then built this wall, I have it pegged at the base but need to pull the top left corner right by about 15m...m to get it all sitting true , that will be for wall straightening days! ~ Today Im crackin out with the other side! Got a old solid Messmate lintel you carefully take down, not cause the building will collapse pfft, mainly cause Im saving as much timber as I can to build a dining table out of it! The house is dated as early as 1926 governed by the newspapers I found, so its nearly 100 years old! How nice will it be to make a beautiful dining table out of it! 15.01.2022 Decks Level, Cracked a pack of timber & started sorting, the timber I needed was half way into the pack good fun! ~ Sized them up, & over shot my cut cause I am laminating these bearers, plenty of liquid nails..... like lots , must be the furniture maker in me! If glue isnt coming out the sides did you even glue it ~ Loaded the framer up with 90mm Gal nails & drove them home! Youll notice I used the gun as my mark, the guns about 350mm long constantly drove them ho...me, then span the bearer around off set the by 150mm & went again, so Ive got 90s angling in from both faces. ~ Now youll see me squaring & centring off & driving a 100mm nail home with my M1 , the nail is nailpunched in & the protruding nail is bent over, this is called Clenching much like your butt cheeks ~ Set them all aside to tack off but these bad boys are getting installed come the morning See more

15.01.2022 Super Easy String Line Knot ~ This has to be one of my favourites ~ But how do you do it?... ~ Massive day! Got all the stopping done or atleast first coat done! Then hopped off to this joint where Ive started recessing the floors in the bathroom & en-suite so it all finishes flush with the timber floor. Now working on the shower areas, dropping the joists by 60mm to allow for sub floor & screed. ~ Big day tomorrow! 13.01.2022 These things happen nearly all the time on site, bring out a beautifully sharpened tool & you hit an old iron nail, even the sharpest chisels will fold its edge. ~ When I’m running on the clock & need to get moving I crack out the @tormek_sharpening T8, gets the edge also known as the pointy bit back to my acceptable standard ~ There’s times I call to use my natural water stones, especially where honing is needed but when it’s new grinds, this does the trick & gets me moving quick. Now I do use my T8 for grinding all my chisels, machinery blades & house knives, saving up to get a couple more attachments but just from the machinery blade side this girls already paid herself off 7 fold currently.

13.01.2022 There is beauty in simplicity ~ Big day today! Worked on 4 jobs in the stint of 14 hours! But was exited to crack on with these today! 12.01.2022 Day 1 of this family walking into there new home to find out it was ransacked ~ Something Id never wish on a living soul, dont know the full story but apparently this family are about to move in, get the keys to find there new home had been Broken into & the culprits left water running upstairs, absolutely terrible! & my heart goes out to them ~ Always gets me thinking if it was some young kids or if the builder was paying his trades! 12.01.2022 Sometimes when youre in a dark place, you tend to think you have been buried; what if youve been planted ~ Firstly! Would ya have a perve at that! ~ Crackin Day! Up at a sparrows fart Im a grumpy arse in the morning until the coffee kicks in! But cracked on for a cruise out to the next project! Im working in an early 1900s old heritage listed bank, creating a period style kitchen out of solid timber, with full blown mortice & tennon doors, matching the unique profil...es throughout the building, really looking forward to this one! ~ Took measurements, window placement, staircase placement & went to the extent of pulling up sections of the flooring to check how the electrical & plumbing were going to get to the room, being a heritage listed house, Ive got a lot of regulations to deal with where it comes to the overall appearance internal & external, & at the same time complying with todays regulations. ~ I was there for a good 3.5 hours going over everything! The room is a parallelogram! Went to the extra extent to batten screw all the foot rails in place, seriously I only want to put a ezyscrew Pier at the centre of the base, it doesnt need it but Ill fit it in for ease of mind ... ~ Now started crackin onto the bathroom/en-suite floor & then frame! Get this rolling! ~ Serious Question? I recently got into a somewhat heated discussion with a somewhat person that stated you must have a lot of time on your hands cause no one glues bearers together Im not going into the discussion but! 09.01.2022 Believe in your elf.... ~ How Ya’s crackin ~ My Name is Anthony & I’m a Furniture Maker, been in the industry for over 20 years now & let us continue with #mystory ... ~ I came in the industry as a wee pup, I was a keen 14 year old lad, at the time my parents knew I had zero interest in school so they put it on me to either finish school or get an apprenticeship, so for me without any delay I opted into an apprenticeship, found a place locally working as a furniture apprentice, I had 2 tradesmen teaching me & I learnt quickly that when I was working with each tradesmen, to work how they work, there was no oh but the other guy taught me to do it like this..... I’d be cleaning up for a week! ~ But after some time the boss man employed a wise older chap that after seeing his work I was in aw believing that I was about to be taught by a real live master craftsmen, his skill & knowledge was far superior to the others & I was humbled when he took me under his wing , at first it was fun but after a while he ended up being a hard man to please, his disappointment made me want to be even better! & boy I would make mistakes as we all do but I tell ya what I never made the same mistake twice! Literally terrified to think what would happen, only once was I told Anthony this is the second time I’m telling you this talk about having to change your jocks mid day! ~ I ended up entering into a competition called worldskills regional comp, we will get more into that later on but with weeks to go before game day I was taught the basics, sawing, chisel Controll & one that I didn’t really understand... 08.01.2022 I know Im a handful, but thats why you got two hands ~ Evening Yall! Had to clock out over the last few! Had the kids come home from school sick, & had to get them tested for the infamous C-19, & then had to self isolate until the results came in! The Mrs & I got crook too so life was a little interesting! Results came back with the all clear ~... So today after having 4 days off! I had a busy arse morning! 08.01.2022 Rolled this Curved DrawKnife Out of The Old Tool Box. ~ Its been at least 8 years since Ive held this tool, & honestly I did not hone the edge, the last time I honed this tool was 8 years age, straight out of its bag, I left it with a fine layer of oil on the steel for protection & she was rolled up in an old shop rag, just wait till I actually hone the edge ~ Last time I used this was before my car accident, I carved out some old Oregon into a pair of barley twists to si...te either side of the fireplace ~ As I draw, she slices as if but a day had passed & not 8 years. ~ A drawknife is commonly used to remove large slices of wood for flat faceted work, to debark trees, or to create roughly rounded or cylindrical billets for further work on a lathe, or it can shave like a spokeshave, where finer finishing is less of concern than a rapid result. 08.01.2022 Scribing Flush To A Short Wall Just sharing how I scribe to a nib wall (same depth as the cabinetry) this type of scribe work I find quite enjoyable as there is an added level of difficulty. You’ll hear me explain in a few areas what I’m doing & why I’m doing it that way, hopefully I’ve covered it in such detail that you can reference back. - Preferably I like to use a blade when I scribe but in some instances it’s not practical & a more traditional method is better.

08.01.2022 I am standing outside. So if anyone asks, I am outstanding! ~ Ah, dad jokes 101 right there , Big day! Lots of barras & about 2 full hours of jackhammering with the @hikokipowertoolsaus jack hammer this thing does not Fcuk around! ~... 150mm tamper plate just came in, adds a good 7kg on the beast! So with this shes pushing 25kg..... do you even lift bro , but makes a huge diff for compacting soil. ~ Filled the holes 4 times compacting one each dump, now just have the last little bit on each post bout a Barra load left! So much easier on the hands & spine! 08.01.2022 Nobody Is Perfect. BUT These Treads are pretty damn close ~ Check out the last pic ~ Yes these treads will have a non slip material added to the front of the tread ... ~ Wha! She has been busy! But last night before I cruised on home I opened up these beauties & thought Id share how nice the grain has come up after the sanding sesh ~ The grain is wild & OmG! Im loving the colour! Ive laid them out on the bench for a full run & looking at it all I should get a beautiful sunset riding up the stringer! ~ If you think they look something special now! If you miss, you may hit a star ~ Currently Im working on working non 6 live projects, this is one of them, Ive got this beautiful Australian KD SpottedGum , absolutely a beautiful Timber! Lovely light to dark browns, grain as wild as a stallion & this species has a jenka rating of 10 in metric & its works out to 2473 in imperial, its classed as a hard timber! This species will dull your blade is seconds! ~ Im making 13 stair treads here & got the gl...uing you done today! Now with this species along with a few others River Redgum Blackbutt Western Red Jarrah Ghostgum Sugargum Grey & Red Ironbark Yellow Box ect those Timbers that are structurally sound but highly unstable, & also have an oily or waxy residue residing in the timber, if youve worked with them before you know what I mean. 05.01.2022 Im not weird, Im just limited edition ~ Dont you just love the sound of a Stihl Chainsaw The TS201 is so nice was a little difficult at the start to one handed cut the bearer and make sure the camera is on point but if you missed it, I followed the mark to a T! Scribed each cut with my @kincrome knife & with one hand, nearly placing any pressure on the bar! Im full fledged full chisel for my chain these days & the difference ~... Got a couple of tricks in pulling these mitred scarf joints together tight even with a chainsaw I call it a mirror cut works for fine detail & large detail too! ~ FYI cut these yesterday, took me a couple of moments to cut 7. ~ Today I was out in Melbourne talking to a client about a large upcoming project! 04.01.2022 There is beauty in simplicity ~ Wha! I tell ya what! I just about pulled that bearer out! Shes a keeper! Just have a right ol crack at that grain . ~ Today got in, geared up pulled some shot floor joist up, along with every single nail, setout a 30 mitred scarf to connect the bearers to the existing section of the house, I only cut this one with my hand saw, wasnt expecting to see such a beautiful grain to pop out like that! 04.01.2022 There are two rules in life. 1. Never give out all the information. 2. ~ Ha! How we all crackin?! Today was epic! ~ I dont know about you but I am crushing hard on this Spotted Gum ... ~ Kicked the morn off with a cruise out to get some supplies, my gear up & head down to site, unload & setup, then its was a heap of math cause that siht doesnt lie, it just works & being in the profession Im in, Math is important!
