25.01.2022 Dont Wait Until Its Too Late - Bowel Cancer Awareness, Feb 2018. #BowelcancerAustralia #Dontwaituntilitstoolate #bowelcancerawareness

25.01.2022 The Mayonnaise Jar When things in your life seem, almost too much to handle, When 24 H ours in a day is not enough, Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.... A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, H e picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar And proceeded to fill it with golf balls. H e then asked the students, if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. H e shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open Areas between the golf balls. H e then asked the students again if the jar was full... They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. H e asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous yes. The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. Now, said the professor, as the laughter subsided, I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life... The golf balls are the important things - family, children, health, Friends, and Favorite passions Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, Your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else --The small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first, H e continued, there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, You will never have room for the things that are important to you. So... Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play With your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first -- The things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand. One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.. The professor smiled. Im glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, theres always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend. Please share this with other "Golf Balls" I just did......

25.01.2022 Dr Bruce Chadfield from Acacia Ridge National Diabetes Centre, has had type 1 insulin dependent diabetes from the age of 12. He is very familiar with following carbohydrate controlled "diets". Breakfast is one of the times that it is very easy to have a lot of carbohydrates which results in very high blood sugar readings a few hours later . They can often be difficult to bring down again and so put a real damper on your whole day. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT. See Bruces porridge recipe.

17.01.2022 I think it is vitally important all patients should boycott Chemists promoting "Instant Consult" Telehealth consults and phone consults should only be for their usual GPs who have access to the patients past history and full medical details . Do not let these money hungry marketeers wort the system so the gov will shut it down completely

11.01.2022 Causes of: MENTAL CONFUSION IN THE THIRD AGE By: Arnaldo Liechtenstein, physician. Whenever I teach clinical medicine to students in the fourth year of medicine, I ask the following question:... What are the causes of mental confusion in the elderly? Some offer: "Tumors in the head". I answer: No! Others suggest: "Early symptoms of Alzheimers". I answer again: No! With each rejection of their answers, their responses dry up. And they are even more open-mouthed when I list the three most common causes: - uncontrolled diabetes; - urinary infection; - dehydration It may sound like a joke, but it isnt. People over 50 constantly stop feeling thirsty and consequently stop drinking fluids. When no one is around to remind them to drink fluids, they quickly dehydrate. Dehydration is severe and affects the entire body. It may cause abrupt mental confusion, a drop in blood pressure, increased heart palpitations, angina (chest pain), coma and even death. This forgetting to drink fluids begins at age 50, when we have just over 50% of the water we should have in our bodies. People over 50 have a lower water reserve. This is part of the natural aging process. But there are more complications. Although they are dehydrated, they dont feel like drinking water, because their internal balance mechanisms dont work very well. Conclusion: People over 50 years old dehydrate easily, not only because they have a smaller water supply, but also because they do not feel the lack of water in the body. Although people over 50 may look healthy, the performance of reactions and chemical functions can damage their entire body. So here are two alerts: 1) * Get into the habit of drinking liquids *. Liquids include beer (Guinness is best), water, juices, teas, coconut water, milk, soups, and water-rich fruits, such as watermelon, melon, peaches and pineapple; Orange and tangerine also work. The important thing is that, every two hours, you must drink some liquid. Remember this! 2) Alert for family members: constantly offer fluids to people over 50. At the same time, observe them. If you realize that they are rejecting liquids and, from one day to the next, they are irritable, breathless or display a lack of attention, these are almost certainly recurrent symptoms of dehydration. Arnaldo Liechtenstein (46), physician, is a general practitioner at Hospital das Clnicas and a collaborating professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of So Paulo (USP). Did you like it? So spread it out! DONT FORGET TO DO IT NOW! Your friends and family need to know for themselves and help you to be healthier and happier. Its good to share! For people over 50

08.01.2022 Dr Chadfield will have a reduction in consulting hours in the new year due to health issues. He will not longer be working on Tuesday evenings (just Wednesday evenings) and will work 1 in 4 Sundays from now on. Bruce had a heart problem mid flight between Singapore and Brisbane and almost didnt make it back. He had to go straight into ICU then CCU from Brisbane Airport. Hes back at work now but available fewer hours. "With Type 1 Diabetes, Ive pushed it too hard for too long in work and play and now I pay the consequences. Enjoy life... its not a rehearsal" - Dr Bruce Chadfield

08.01.2022 Weight loss and cardiovascular health. 4 Crucial points. Avoid sugars and refined grains. Instead, eat fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats (a sensible, plant-based, Mediterranean-style diet). Let your body burn fat between meals. Dont snack. Be active throughout your day. Build muscle tone. Consider a simple form of intermittent fasting. Limit the hours of the day when you eat, and for best effect, make it earlier in ...the day (between 7 am to 3 pm, or even 10 am to 6 pm, but definitely not in the evening before bed). Avoid snacking or eating at nighttime, all the time. See more

03.01.2022 Very merry Xmas and a happy new year to all those wonderful people out there who have trusted Elizabeth St Medical centre with their health. Dr Bruce Chadfield on behalf of all the other Drs, nurses and staff.

03.01.2022 As we get into the colder #winter months, we thought we would re-share Dr Chadfields high #protein, low #carb, #breakfast #porridge #recipe. Happy Cooking!

02.01.2022 I have purchased hundreds of 2018 flu vaccines to be given by myself, free of charge. Our vaccine fridge is now full! Like last year, and the years before, I will be giving the vaccines myself, using a virtually painless technique. A technique I learned as a 12-year-old, when I had to start giving myself insulin injections. This is a significant community service to help everyone get access to free vaccinations against the flu. I read about 1000 people who died from the flu... last year, let us not have a repeat of 2017. I am running rapid flu clinics with no waiting time. These clinics will be in the after hours periods 6am to 8am weekdays, all day Sundays, and all day every day during the Easter break . So do not have me sitting here doing nothing, tell everyone you know, family, friends, and workmates. Heres to a healthy 2018. Dr Bruce Chadfield. #flu2018

02.01.2022 Dr Bruce Chadfield GP Specialist in Diabetes Care In my opinion the development of the Medtronic 670G insulin pump with CGM is the greatest advance in Type 1 diabetes management since the use of HbA1C and the first glucometer 1977. Every person connected to T1DM should be lobbying their MP to have this pump and CGM available on medicare.

01.01.2022 Stay #sunsafe this summer!
