22.01.2022 Never haggle with an 11 year old! To be fair, her 10 year old sister was working on me too, they played me like a fiddle. They talked me out of two paintings for the price of the canvas AND got a bonus portrait thrown in for good measure. A bonus portrait each. Like a fiddle, I tell you. So this is Miss J's fave baby photo, the original was taken at our Nana's house (Miss J is my niece) and she's dressed in her Sunday Best for visiting.
22.01.2022 It finally feels like I'm making progress with this one! It stills looks and feels awkward but I'm on the right track now, I have hope it'll get there. I was toying around with different colours for the shadows in the skin tones and they just weren't working out for me. I've lost the shape of Little Lottie's face in the process, I'll have to get my sketches out again and redraw her facial features. I'm having a bit more luck Chantell's face though - I'm layering up the shado...ws and highlight for now (shaping all that bone structure around the eye and nose), then I can start adding all those little strands of blonde hair that shape and frame her face. Changed my mind about the shorts, I'm turning them into a skirt and maybe a Dora shirt....some motif on the front anyway, I might hit Google and see what all the cool girls are wearing these days.
21.01.2022 1. Send me a photo and tell me what you love about it. I need a quality photo to work with - a clear image with nice lighting. I typically work with 45cm x 60cm sized stretched canvas. We can discuss other sizes, background alterations, photoshopping things into or out of the scene and any other changes you'd like to make right here on Facebook, just send me a message. 2. I'm currently charging an insanely low price per portrait and ask for a 50% non-refundable deposit (you'...ll understand I need to cover my expenses). Once you've approved the draft and made a deposit I can get started straight away. 3. Like Elizabeth's Portraits here on Facebook so you can follow along as your painting comes to life. Your feedback during the construction is invaluable and we can make slight changes along away. When it's all said and done, if you don't love your portrait, you don't have to buy it. Payments can be made in: => Cash upon delivery or collection (I'm based in Rockingham, WA) => PayPal (including major credit or debit cards). Note: Postage will incur a surcharge.
20.01.2022 This piece is part of a set of three, one for each child. Mum isn't certain about the background story but from what I can piece together when Josh was 16 or 17ish he was told to smarten up or move out and took his parents up on the challenge. This photo was taken around that time - I'm guessing late 90's judging the hat and sunnies. Josh doesn't like having his photo taken at the best of time and behind the sunnies and hat there's a whole lot of teenage attitude going on. That was my biggest challenge with this paintingcapturing all that attitude without depending on Windows To The Soul to tell their story. All in all, I had heaps of fun with this painting.
18.01.2022 Things coming together quite quickly at the moment, I've had a very productive night. lol I just noticed the giant hand! Shame, it was a nice shape too. I really have to get the background out of the way before I can start on the girls so this next stage will centred around the horse and the grain in the wood.
17.01.2022 A portrait of the very awesome Jack Gardner (AKA my Grandad) as a young man on his way home from Korea and presented to him after the 2014 ANZAC service.
12.01.2022 If you haven't heard the story yet I'll say it againnever haggle with kids! It was daylight robbery! Miss O and her sister Miss J fell in love with a couple of my paintings, they talked me out of two underwater cityscapes for the cost of the canvas and had a bonus portrait (each) thrown in to sweeten the deal. Miss O picked her fave baby photo and I was lucky enough to have inherited the Peter Wabbit highchair for my boys when she had outgrown it so I was able to recreate the photo quite accurately. Her Dad remembers taking this photo she later fell asleep with a chippy in her mouth.
11.01.2022 And THAT's how busy I am at the moment. It's actually quite nice, I can stand around thinking about the problems with one painting while I'm doing something mindless (backgrounds and base coats) on another. I'm feeling ever so productivewe'll see how long that lasts!
09.01.2022 Leona fell in love with this mermaid and asked me to recreate with a few small changes. She loves the blue side of the colour wheel and she picked out some specific colours that she wanted to see. She asked me to keep the blonde hair, the full figure (plus a nipple) and to flesh out the tail. See wanted the complete image - in the original the tail runs off the side of the page and it's rather... half formed. She also told me to make it my own so I've done just that and made a few changes of my own.
05.01.2022 This one was really, really special. The photo is a family favourite of my Grandad in Japan after serving in Korea. A few weeks ago he made a passing comment about me painting his picture and I was so busy brainstorming ideas that I only gave him a half hearted answer. He had no idea this was coming! I've been wanting to take an old black and white photo and turn it into a colourful painting for some time now so I weighed my options with this one and decided to go for it. He...'s sitting in front of a Japanese screen which kinda decided my palette for me - I thought to use a sepia inspired palette for the background (lots of golds and browns) then paint him in colour. The British uniform was going through a state of transition at the time, troops wore a mish-mash of items and colours so we had to jump through a few hoops before confirming that he was wearing the latest duds. When ANZAC Day rolled around I rushed through the finishing touches to get it signed and sealed juuuust in time to go watch him march. It was a very meaningful ceremony, we had a lovely lunch at the RSL, and then to be able to come along and present this painting to him on today of all days.it was a pretty magical moment.
04.01.2022 We had some trouble finding the perfect shot of Jordan...Mum trawled through the family photo albums and came across funny face after funny face - he's an award winning performer at heart. He loves drama class and singing and song writing and he is such a character, he has the best sense of humour. So we settled on something fun that would showcase his personality and this picture has it in spades. It's still a work on progress and it's the third and final portrait in a set of three. Wish me luck on those eyesif I get them just right Mum will be able to hang it as is or turn it on its side to match the other two paintings in the set.
03.01.2022 This piece is going to be quite the handful, I'm actually blending a number of photo's together to create the scene. Possibly the world's coolest Grandad spent months in the shed building a rocking horse for his grandkids and it's one of those things that will become a family heirloom. (Not to mention it's beautifully crafted and check out the grain on the wood!) It simply had to star in this painting of the grandkids. Nana sent me the photo of her granddaughters giving it a spin (? or a rock?) and if you've ever taken family photo's with kids involved then you'll know how impossible it is to get everybody looking in the same direction and smiling at the same time. So I raided the family's photo album and plucked out the biggest, cutest smiles I could find.
02.01.2022 This is a bitter sweet portrait. Here we have a young beautiful woman (with some of the most stunning bone structure I've ever come across) in the prime of her life, surrounded by friends and family. who didn't even want to celebrate her 21st birthday. One year earlier, when she was out celebrating with friends, Tahlia's Grandparents were killed in a terrible car crash. As the anniversary rolled around, family and friends rallied to help get through night and her friends presented her a beautiful locket engraved with her Grandparents initials. Although it wasn't in the original photo, it simply had to feature in the painting.
02.01.2022 I'll have to get a proper photo but you can see some more detail in this one.
