24.01.2022 C O N T R A S T .... is what creates depth in my drawings. In the early stages of a work I’m often nervous that I’m drawing sections too dark. But more often than not, I’ll later return to that section and add a few layers with a thicker pen nib to darken it even further to develop more contrast within the work. I drew this one six years ago and I remember endlessly returning to the dark sections to add more layers.... So it seems I still have the same conundrum... I’d like to think a tad less than I use to but yes ... always learning! See more

Swipe for more detail This is Perched and is the newest addition to the limited edition print range and was inspired by an original photograph by talented photographer @kim_akrich ... 22.01.2022 What should she lay on? A few more hours in this one but here’s a work in progress shot for your peepers. Sooo towel? Or no towel??

22.01.2022 When I drew this Black Tip Shark I was spending a lot of time underwater on the #NingalooReef and every time I turned around one seemed to be swimming nearby, begging to be drawn. A few weeks later, a photo of one popped up on my Instagram feed which had been taken by a friend of mine, @amyunderwater and it was perfect for a drawing. High contrast and beautiful shadows. So here we have it, an Australian or Common black tip reef shark (it’s difficult to tell!) in a drawing.... 22.01.2022 I grew up in chilly Victoria and when the whales migrated it was the beautiful yet strange looking Southern Right Whales which frolicked along our coastline. I have memories from when I was a kid of standing on the beach or a headland, hoping to see a puff of air, tail slap or breach as these whales were making their way to warmer waters. ... It’s taken me a while to draw one but we got there eventually!! Isn't it funny that as a kid you just do not feel the cold....Thinking back to these memories now, I keep dwelling on 'but wasn't I cold?'. I still can't believe I only wore a spring suit in the middle of winter in freezing Victorian waters @ Lorne, Victoria

21.01.2022 AT HOME. At home in her own body. At home in her own shape. At home as if her skin is the comfiest shirt and undies combo. At home as if her figure is that very outfit that makes her feel a million bucks ... I’m loving these crop shirts with high waist jeans. 21.01.2022 Every now and then I dip out of my comfort zone of pen on paper and pull out the paints ... Keeps things a bit interesting, keeps the brain ticking over ... gets through the paper stocks as paint and I don’t always get on that well So here’s one of the keepers that has ended up in the postcard and greeting card range this year!... Nice to see some splashes of colour in what was an all black and white range of cards. All cards are post consumer waste recycled paper and available via the website www.elkdraws.com Who loves receiving snail mail!?! See more

20.01.2022 A N C I E N T A R T Art has been around for AT LEAST 40,000 years & this little piece (at least a few thousand years old) last night reminded me that all those small occurrences in time that frustrate/upset/anger/stress us out really are just that. S M A L L. This may not be the most exquisite piece of rock art I’ve ever seen but it brought to mind simple things that I often forget. I’m not going to get any deeper on you ... but you get the gist! ... And yes I’m on an island quite possibly dehydrated, sun burnt, waffling and going mad... but hey, that was my train of thought when I saw this ancient little art work. This art is on Murujuga country where I used to live and work with the land and sea unit. Five language groups now work together to manage the area - wongootoo, yaburara, Ngarluma, Yinjibarndi and Mardudunhera. If you’re ever photographing rock art - please respect the traditional owners and do not photograph rock art depicting human figures See more

18.01.2022 WHITE or BLACK ?? Lately I've been exploring the human figure and how to represent the detail and finesse of an object with a simple (yet carefully well thought out!!) drawn line. This is one of my favourite drawings I came up with during a sketch session and I’ve put it on an organic tee!... What’s your favourite - the white on black or the black on white? And crop or full length? . . . . #organictshirt #organiccottontshirts #fairtradeclothing #sustainableaustralia #australianlabel #slowfashion #traceableclothing #knowwhatyouwear #ladiestshirt #croptshirt #nudelinework #perthartists #perthartist #lineartist #tshirtart #tshirtartwork #pilbara #gascoyne #northwestaus #wanderoutyonder #regionalwa #organicfashion #blackandwhitedogs See more

17.01.2022 Beginning is better than forever planning for a perfect start I’m so guilty of this, I put off starting artworks, adventure and new projects all the time as I’m not 100% perfectly completely sure of where it’s going, have time, the right equipment blah blah blah .... 16.01.2022 Coffee For One celebrates the simple things in life. A morning coffee. Some quiet time. Letting your gaze rest for a while. Even if that may be you just caught in a daze (me staring into space a lot of the time)... Am looooving this style of drawing/painting at the moment. I didn’t draw this one today but did just pop it up on the website available as a print Side note: Last night in my twenties eeeeeek ... @ Lygon Street See more

16.01.2022 IT’S A LAYERING GAME A work in progress that has been just that for a while, but that’s okay. It’s one of my explorations into layering of gouache and ink. ... 15.01.2022 THIS IS MY FAVOURITE DRAWING BECAUSE... This drawing is called 'She' and it's by far been the most enjoyable work I’ve drawn. It wasn't a commission. ... I didn't draw it because I thought people would like it. I drew it because I WANTED to. It was the first drawing in well over a year that's been drawn for this simple reason. And it's because of this, that it's my favourite drawing When was the last time you did something because YOU wanted to? 07.01.2022 What grinds my gears? Seeing beautiful artwork not framed (don’t worry I’m guilty too). I often get asked how I frame my artwork - I love: A timber frame.... Black matte board to bring out the contrasts and add depth. Glass over Perspex as Perspex scratches easily Or if artwork has rough edges (cotton rag paper) floating a few mm above the same colour background. But in saying that it’s definitely a personal choice and it’s going to be sitting in your home Anything weirder than unframed art annoy you? See more

06.01.2022 Should I have covered the nipple?? You might remember seeing little snippets of this on my story a while back? It is now finished and prints are ready to go and I’m so happy about it So why the girl? Well I was getting my Instagram scroll on (as we all do) and noticed how shadows falling across figures could totally change the perception of the image and in doing so, our perception of a female’s figure.... It made me want to explore how you can change a viewer’s idea of beauty by removing a traditional outline of a figure and instead delving into shadow, contrast, texture... I go into a lot more depth on the website but don’t want to get too wordy on here! She' is the first drawing I’ve ever drawn that is only available as a Limited Edition Print. Very excited about this! Only a set number are available in A3 and A2 sizes, each print is numbered and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. 05.01.2022 S A V O U R T H E S H A L L O W S This is one of the designs I loved drawing for @waparkswildlife earlier this year which has been used for their own apparel which they’re selling within #caperangenationalpark at the #milyeringdiscoverycentre Next time you see a turtle or a photograph of one, take a moment and look a bit closer....The lines and detail of their skin, scales and eyes is truly incredible. 04.01.2022 When I was three a kangaroo STOLE my lunch Yep I threw a tantrum. I was with my folks on a road trip stopped for lunch at Pretty Beach or Pebbly beach on the beautiful South Cost of NSW.... At the time I didn't quite understand. But looking back I was clearly the weakest link and waving food .... I mean, who wouldn't approach with those odds of a free lunch!? I can’t remember the exact species seeing at its a twenty-something year old memory, but something tells me it wasn't a red. And that's why this kangaroo painting IS a red. It's a species that DIDN’T attempt to steal lunch from pint sized Eleanor. I couldn’t paint one and make prints of one that did could I What animals have stolen your lunch?

03.01.2022 Seems I can’t stand still for a photograph ... a blur will do! Forgot about this work @t_heroe.art and I worked on together at an event early in the year to raise funds for the bushfires. Discovered it this morning at its new home in Exhale cafe in Exmouth, whose owner bought the artwork at auction with all funds going towards the fires.... So nice to be surprise greeted by artwork first thing Hands up for more larger works? See more

02.01.2022 The original Co-Squid19 (swipe to see him grown up!) Originally sketched in the first lockdown when the whole world was on edge, drowning in COVID19 headlines and wondering what we’d use when the toilet paper ran out... I remember I was sitting on the floor in the lounge room watching the news, nothing was certain and the entire world was in the same predicament. It was a weird feeling. ... And then the Squid wandered into my mind.... The squid was clutching all of the lockdown essentials and was demanding to be drawn. So I grabbed a random pen and paper and sketched him as quickly as I could. Once down, my partner Chad, friends and I (from a suitable social distance of course) had a bit of a chuckle about him and ended up swapping a couple of items around before settling on the final items, redrawing him and getting him ready for print! I’m overwhelmed at the response this shirt design has received and I really hope each time it is worn it helps lighten the situation somewhat! The first batch SOLD OUT but new ones are IN STOCK and we will UPGRADE ALL POSTAGE TO EXPRESS FOR FREE until Father’s Day. I hope you love Co-Squid19 as much as I do Tap to shop or follow the link in my bio. @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia See more

01.01.2022 This drawing will forever remind me of a heavy week back in February 2017. A week when a friend passed too soon to free herself from her own mind coincidentally on the same day I was admitted to hospital, to three days later be discharged with an epilepsy diagnosis. So often if I feel a bit over something or frustrated at my seizures I tell myself it could be worse or there are so many others who are worse off.... ... In other words toughen up. But is this actually of any benefit? Would we be better to just acknowledge that yes, it is a bit shit and it’s okay to feel and acknowledge just that. Hey if we’re feeling any degree of positivity or happiness it’s totally NORMAL to outwardly acknowledge that. Why can’t feeling a bit blah be more normal too? So yes. I’m owning it. I’m feeling a bit blah. Three seizures in two days. I want to drive home. But epilepsy took my licence away in Feb 2017. So I am on a bus home. A bus that was over an hour late, is missing one of its six wheels and has already had some obscenities thrown between occupants a few rows back. Oh and I need to pee See more
