23.01.2022 ~Babies Room Educators~ Jodee (left) and Anne (right) Hello my name is Jodee and I have been working in the Early Childhood sector for eight years now. I am currently the Room Leader in the Babies room and the Educational Leader here at Melton ELK, I have worked at this service for three and a half years. I originally wanted to be a Primary School teacher but fell in love with the early years when completing my Diploma of Early Childhood Education. I am currently studying my... Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching. My favourite part about working in Early Childhood is supporting young children as they begin to explore and experiment within the world, seeing children make a new discovery is a rewarding aspect of my job. Hello, my name is Anne.I have come from Sri Lanka and am a mother of three children, I have a Diploma of Early Learning and I have been in the sector for ten years. I love working with children because I enjoy watching them grow. When I was a child in Sri Lanka my mother also worked as a childcare worker. Fun fact: I love to sing and dance.

23.01.2022 This week the children at Melton ELK had the opportunity to participate in a range of experiences for NAIDOC week. NAIDOC week celebrates the history and culture of Indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islanders. Along with planned experiences the Kinder and Pre Kinder children were also able to engage in two online sessions throughout the week 'Discovering the Bush Bunyip' with Deanne Gilson and Storytime with Aunty Fay Muir. #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe #bunyip

23.01.2022 When school goes back this week, itll look a little different. Schools will provide everything our kids need to study remotely but theres always room for ex...tra learning . Thats why were doing this. Were teaming up with ABC Australia to massively expand the educational programming on offer and to bring the classroom into the living room (or dinner table or kitchen). More than 4,000 videos, resources and games will be available on the ABC website that match up with the Victorian curriculum. Educational shows for primary and secondary students will run throughout the day, as well as mini-lessons led by teachers. Nothing will ever replace our incredible teachers and the work they do. But were making sure every Victorian student has access to as many learning opportunities as possible. BYO chair and bear.

23.01.2022 In these unprecedented times it is easy to feel overwhelmed and out of sorts. To assist our community here at Melton ELK, our team have signed up to the Be You initiative through Beyond Blue. This program offers our Educators the opportunity to engage in mental health learning which can then be put into practice with the children and be embedded within the curriculum. As we move throughout this journey we hope to be able to better support our staff, children, families and wider community.

21.01.2022 Today the children at Melton ELK were offered a range of ANZAC day activities from art & craft experiences, reading ANZAC Ted with their Educators and even making their own ANZAC biscuits.

21.01.2022 Thank-you to our families for your ongoing support and patience during this period of uncertainty. We are still open and doing what we do best, caring for and educating the children. 20.01.2022 Late last year, Melton ELK signed up to be a part of the Achievement Program. The Achievement program is a Government initiative striving to create healthy environments for learning, working and living. The Achievement Program has six health priority areas, with every area having its own set of evidence based benchmarks for our service to work towards and achieve recognition. Today we received notification that all of our hard work and dedication to providing a healthy environment for our children, families & Educators has paid off and we have successfully achieved all health priority areas!

20.01.2022 A feel good post to hopefully brighten your day.

18.01.2022 As the cooler weather is approaching we are reminded of the benefits of outdoor play in all weather conditions. Outdoor play provides children with invaluable experiences to learn about the weather and seasons, it encourages responsibility and independence to dress appropriately for outdoor play according to the weather. It reduces the spread of infection as it is harder to spread germs to each other in outdoor spaces. It exposes children to fresh air and vitamin D and helps children gain the unlimited benefits of outdoor play all year around.

10.01.2022 I know lots of parents and students have been waiting for this one so heres all the info you need on whats happening for Term 3. As we flagged last week, al...l schools in regional and rural Victoria except for Mitchell Shire will return to face-to-face learning as planned tomorrow. Years 11, 12, and specialist school students within Stage 3 restricted areas will also start back in the classroom. School holidays for Preps to Year 10s in Stage 3 restricted areas have been extended by a week and on the advice of the Chief Health Officer, theyll begin remote learning on Monday 20 July. Thats because while were doing everything we can to drive case numbers down, its really important not to have hundreds of thousands of kids and their parents and carers moving around every day. Few points to note: Well still have on-site supervision for any student who needs it whether thats because their parents are out working, for vulnerable kids, or those with disabilities who need extra support. All students attending class or on-site supervision in Stage 3 restricted areas will be temperature-checked daily. Kids leaving the Stage 3 area for school will also be temperature-checked each morning when they get there. Students who received a laptop or tablet to learn from home last term should still have these but well also be loaning out a further 1,000 devices and 2,500 dongles to make sure everyone has what they need to learn. School breakfast and lunch clubs will continue to run for any student that needs them whether theyre learning face-to-face or at home. For families on the edge of the boundary, whether students learn in the classroom or remotely is based on the location of the school not where you live. This ensures kids will be doing the same thing as their classmates regardless of their home address. Im sure people will be wondering Why these year levels and not others? We want to make sure all our VCE and VCAL kids across the state are in the same boat and everyone gets an equal chance to do their best. Plus Year 12s have next year to plan for and we want to make sure they have as much support as possible over the next six months. Feedback last term was that remote learning for specialist school students, their families and their teachers was incredibly challenging. Thats why weve made this call. I know people will have differing views and mixed feelings about this. I know kids will miss their mates. And I appreciate that it probably feels a bit unsettling for everyone students and parents alike. My heartfelt thanks for your patience and resilience. There might be a few blips along the way but were doing our utmost to make this transition as smooth as possible. And finally, to our hard-working teachers and school staff: Thank you for everything. You are truly irreplaceable.

09.01.2022 We have two immunisation sessions scheduled this week: Tuesday 8 September 5.30pm-7.30pm Banchory Community Centre Thursday 10 September 10am-12pm Bridge Road C...ommunity Centre Please note that so we can adhere to COVID-19 restrictions, just one parent should attend with their child/baby. Please avoid bringing siblings if you can. Our staff continue to follow special procedures based on the latest advice on staying safe during the COVOID-19 pandemic, and were asking parents to follow some precautions as well. For more information on precautions to follow when attending these sessions, and to download the updated immunisation schedule, please visit our website: https://www.melton.vic.gov.au//Health-safety-/Immunisation

08.01.2022 Here at Melton Early Learning Kinders learning is child lead and driven by children's interests and developmental stages. In our Pre Kinder room the children have shown a lot of interest in the Woolworths Discovery Gardens, the children have bought some to the centre and along with their educators have planted and began caring for the seedlings while learning about how they grow. The children have been keeping a close eye on the progress of their gardens and are excited to witness mother nature in real time.

08.01.2022 From 11.59pm on the 21st of June we are at the next stage of restriction easing.

07.01.2022 Our lovely neighbours at Earth Village Cafe are launching a free lunch pack service for those in need. Available Monday to Friday 10am-4pm.

07.01.2022 A friendly reminder that we are closed tomorrow and Monday for the Good Friday and Easter Monday public holidays. We hope you enjoy your time off, stay safe and we will see you all back at the centre from Tuesday the 6th of April.

06.01.2022 Dear Families, As per our recent Email, all children and Educators will be temperature checked upon arrival to the service from Monday morning. Thank-you for your patience and understanding during this time.

06.01.2022 I know a lot of people have been waiting for this, so Ill cut to the chase. On Tuesday 26 May all Prep, Grade 1 and 2, and all VCE, VCAL and specialist schoo...l students will return to classroom learning. All other year levels will return on Tuesday 9 June. And Monday 25 May will be a pupil-free day to make sure everythings ready to go. Well still be offering on-site supervision during those two interim weeks for families who need it but by 9 June, all kids will be back to face-to-face learning in the classroom. Our Government will provide additional funding for daily cleaning and extra sanitiser and soap supplies. Well prioritise testing for any Victorian school staff members who wish to do so, including those without symptoms. And well support teachers and staff at greater risk to continue working remotely. That includes older staff or those with underlying health conditions. Schools will be taking extra precautions too such as staggered drop off and pickup times to avoid lots of parents being in the same place at the same time. While we were working so hard to flatten the curve, it was really important not to have a million kids and their parents and carers moving around the community every day. But thanks to everyones hard work, were now able to make some changes. We always said wed follow the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer, and that our decisions would be based on evidence and they are. But its only because people stayed home and stayed apart and hundreds of thousands of Victorians got tested that we have the data to back this up and the confidence to move forward. The next couple of weeks will be crucial, and Ill keep you posted every step of the way. I know wrangling a preppy while youre trying to work from home is a challenge. That studying for a SAC or an exam from the kitchen table was never going to be ideal. And that teaching a class of five-year-olds online is something no-ones ever been asked to do before. But thanks to the hard work and patience of parents, carers, teachers and staff, and students weve done it. And done it so well.
