25.01.2022 When I was a kid, I’d wear baggy t-shirts to hide my stomach and thighs. You still won't catch me in pants or shorts and my underwear always covers my belly; the feeling of it bare and exposed simply unbearable. When I discovered high-waisted flare skirts and skater dresses, outfits became something fun instead of a chore. I didn't hate photos as much and stopped trying to contort poses. I wasn't so afraid to express myself through fashion and the more mum let me online shop..., the quicker I came to finding plus-sized options in styles and aesthetics i'd always wanted to try. When I finally gave in and made an Instagram account, my outlook on fat changed forever. I found a community of people unapologetic for their lumps. the bumps and scars they have were signs of strength, not something to be ashamed of and I took these notions as a mantra. By opening my heart and dropping the walls, my physical world changed, too. When I look at these photos and how they were the hardest to take, yet the most rewarding to see... I wish I could tell 10 year old me what difference time can make. Words by @prideinplus Photographed on 35mm film for @hara_thelabel
