23.01.2022 I love this time of year when we often have the time and mental space to think about the year ahead and to set intentions and goals. I've just finished using my Hindsight 2020 Vision 2021 worksheets and have finalised my 2021 Goal Plan and love the clarity and optimism that this has brought me. My intentions for 2021 are ... 1. Bring joy and inspiration to all those around me 2. Be more calm and centred amidst the chaos 3. Judge less 4. Balance my health and vitality with my professional output 5. Daily step by step focus on bringing my Goal Plan to fruition I think that Intentions are different than Goals. I see Goals as the more finite and objective things I want to achieve. Whereas my Intention is more of a higher order aim. It's how I want to show up, feel and serve and it's who I desire to be and how I want to experience life. It's more of a self-directive than a finite goal. This year, I have my intentions and my goal plan locked and loaded and this brings me an inordinate sense of calm, conviction, and motivation. 13.01.2022 HOW TO SHIFT SHAME OUT OF THE SHADOWS AND RELEASE OURSELVES FROM IT The common theme that I see consistently with my clients is how challenged they are about articulating their feelings about Shame. Shame needs shadows, and as long as our pain stays hidden, we live a life not truly knowing who we really are.... The reason why people feel lonely when they're not alone, or feel sad when they have success, or feel disconnected from all the great things in their life is not because there is something wrong with them. Rather it's that they've become so good at hiding their pain around shame that this has taken hostage over their lives. Healthy shame says - 'I made a mistake' Toxic shame says - 'I am a mistake' Guilt says - 'What I did was no good', while Shame says - 'I am no good' Guilt is about what we did. And we can heal guilt by doing something different. But shame is about who we believe we are. The endless looping thought track in our mind that lies about our sense of self, our loveablility, our worthiness or our capability. To heal this we have to bring our shame out of the shadows. The best way to do this by becoming really clear on our beliefs about ourselves, no matter how silly or small they can seem. Journalling or finding a safe space (this is where coaching is ideal) to reflect on beliefs that are limiting us and feeding into our sense of shame, allows us to acknowledge and validate our past experiences and hurt. It also provides us with the awareness of areas that we can change. A belief is simply something that we hold to be true. It’s not a hard and fast truth unto itself and so replacing this belief with more compassionate and supportive ones is a key step towards replacing shame with self worth.
