21.01.2022 Peaceful ~ Calm ~ Classrooms My favourite tips for creating peaceful, healthy learning spaces are Plants ~ bring nature inside, they look good, produce oxygen and children can learn to care for them, building a love for nature and creating responsibility.... Sunlight and Fresh Air - keep those windows and blinds open and create flow. The sun kills germs and fresh air helps to give you more energy and mental focus.

21.01.2022 LEARNING DiFFERENCES. When you have a "regular" child, you feel reasonably assured that class participation and decent study habits will result in good grades. These kids have close friends. They get invited to participate in social things like dances and weekend gatherings. They make the teams, auditioned organisations and clubs. But when you have a child with certain differences, this is often not the case. Learning may take longer, both academically and socially. Despite t...heir tremendous efforts, results are often a fraction of their peers and social acceptance is fleeting, setting them up for painful comparisons and bitter frustration. Instead of a fun and fulfilling experience, school can become a breeding ground for depression and anxiety, and assignments a battle ground at home. It is exhausting for parent and child alike. This is the week of SPED (Special Education), Autism, Dyslexia, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) awareness. For all the children who struggle every day to succeed in a world that does not recognize their gifts and talents, and for those who are walking beside them, please let this be a gentle reminder to be kind and accepting of ALL people. Recognize that the "playing field" is not always a level surface. Children who learn differently are not weird. They are merely gifted in ways that our society does not value enough. Yet they want what everyone else wants: To be accepted!! If you choose, please copy and paste this in honor of all children who are deemed "different". 16.01.2022 Home Learning Space ~ Working from home How do I set up a working space for home learning for my kids? What is the best way to set up a productive space for working from home? The goal is to create a calm space - it is a stressful time for everyone at the moment and kids will pick up on this more easily than adults.... The basics are ~ * Make a clear space for work - keep it organised and uncluttered * Have plenty of fresh air and sunlight - keep the blinds up! (sun also kills germs and dust mites) * Keep plants inside for the nature indoors aspect, great look and also air purification * Try to position your chair with your back to a wall ( In Feng Shui this is called the command position) where you can see the door.. positioning your desk to face the window for the view sounds great, however, it can be distracting and create insecurity with your back facing a door. * Discuss agreements around how the space will be used ~ is it shared? eg for children learning, quiet times, do you need a timetable for structured working / learning times? * Try to dedicate an area for individual alone space - this could be the bedrooms if you an apartment dweller, verandah or outside in the garden Try to keep things simple and manageable.
