22.01.2022 It has been quite some time since we have posted photos of the garden which was started back in 2018. Unlike many different posts, here you get to see the finished result straight away! Over the next little while we will take you through the building journey of this very special garden. However, for now .... enjoy! #uralla #englishgardens #australiangardens #stonewalls #pergolas #gazebos #diy #bnb #newengland #armidale #fountains #herbaciousborder #airbnb

20.01.2022 Set in the grounds of the historic former Royal Hotel, in the picturesque New England village of Uralla, 'Elmswood' B&B is a perfect escape. Suited for a romantic weekend away, it is also ideal as a short or long stay option for professionals. 'Elmswood' is a short stroll from cafés, restaurants, galleries, boutique shops, a multi-award winning museum, and a popular micro-brewery. We are happy to accommodate any special requests and look forward to making your stay in Uralla one to remember.

20.01.2022 A cleaner/manager is required for an established BnB located in Uralla NSW. Details of payment and duties can be given upon making contact.

14.01.2022 After planning out where the paths would go it was time to ‘break ground’. I am at heart someone who seeks out the cheapest option for the best quality (read for cheapest - free/no cost). So in this case I really did consider digging this out by hand However it seems I had an uncharacteristically weak moment (in more ways than one) and ‘splashed’ out on a professional to do the initial earth works! Thank goodness I did as I’m sure I would never have got past this point otherwise. After the paths were generally cut out, I was still thinking All good - not much to really do... I think being delusional was a great advantage.

13.01.2022 This is where it all started..... It was a fairly blank canvas but with a huge granite rock in the middle. So the garden was designed around it! It started with string lines and line marking paint. The basic idea was to create a lower set of gardens divided by paths with a long central path connecting them all ... with a fountain in the middle (aka - the rock!). Rather naively at this point I thought only a ‘small’ retaining wall would be needed to level out the upper area. B...ahahaha!!!! In any case... work commenced by digging a trench for agapanthus to grow in (they haven’t done as well as I had hoped)and conifers were planted along the very back fence (juniperus) to give height at very end of the garden ... this was in May 2018 (it was literally freezing!) Many years earlier I had planted the photonias around the boundary but without TLC they had not thrived ... so they would be dealt with in due course. See more

10.01.2022 Whilst there may have been an industrial option for cutting out the paths, there were limited options for removing the grass from the would be garden beds. Armed with forks, shovels, rakes, and a steady flow of hydrating refreshments ... inch by inch the grass was removed and quite lovely soil was prepared. The second lot of plants to go in were the 4 Ornamental Pears (Aristocrat) ... chosen to be the highlighted line of uniformity throughout the garden, they would in time developed into a lovely tear drop shape. I think we removed something in the vicinity of 8 trailer loads before it was done

01.01.2022 Elmswood in the early 1920s as the Royal Hotel prior to demolition of the aging southern end of the building. Can't help but wonder who the folks are standing in the shadows of the verandah ... is it the licensee, J.G. Cooper and his family, or perhaps some of the faithful who ocassionally partook of a quenching ale in the bar???
