17.01.2022 An often overlooked service Elmtech Office Solutions provide's that is essential when supply new office equipment is training. This was reinforced for me yesterday when a friend of mine was telling me a story about one of the employees at his work who used to spend hours on a Saturday stapling sheets of paperwork together. Now we are talking over 200 lots minimum all collated stapled by hand. Unknown to this employee the multifunction printer they had in the office had an aut...omatic stapling function which could be enabled with a few clicks of the mouse before printing. As you can imagine this has changed her whole work routine, saved the company thousands of dollars over a year and really put a focus on showing clients how to use the new equipment they are paying for to get maximum benefit. 16.01.2022 OEM Vs. Non-OEM Consumables It's a question we get asked a lot by clients regarding their printing devices and the answer basically comes down to risk. OEM consumables are specifically designed to work with the equipment. Designed at a chemical level to aid in producing the best quality, maintaining equipment functionality and ensuring minimal downtime.... Non-OEM consumables are very enticing due to the simply costing a fraction of what the OEM equivalent does. The catch comes down to quality. I liken it to using fuel in your car from a reputable supplier to one not so reputable. Bad fuel in your car can either have an immediate negative effect meaning your car probably wont start or will run poorly, or it can be a cumulative effect. Clogging up fuel filters and injectors, possibly causing engine spark issues etc. With non-OEM consumables the hardest part is finding a quality product that performs well on a regular basis. We always educate our customers on the pro's and con's. OEM is the safer option if your machine is critical to your business. Non-OEM can save you a lot of money, however may lead to more downtime due to compromised quality, more repairs and possibly void your warranty. Its something that should be considered as damaged components due to poor quality consumables can run into the thousands of dollars on larger devices. I attended a customer site today where they had been experiencing constant issues with their all in one printer being offline when they went to print from windows. The catch was it only happened for 2 users, everyone else in the office was fine. The issue is a common one i am coming across more often these days and it is having your print queue port configured as a Web Services Device (WSD) po...rt as opposed to a more traditional TCP/IP port. I have found WSD can be unreliable and cause a wide range of issues from appearing offline, false toner alerts, incomplete printing and more. The fix is relatively simple and will make your computers connection to your device much more stable and error free. They are mechanical devices and not suited for prolonged periods of inactivity however, there are a few steps you can take to ensure your device is in working order when you return to the office. 1. Leave the machine on. Most modern devices are designed to stretch their legs a few times a day to stop damage to rollers, gears and motors. Also they will agitate the con...sumables to stop blockages which can lead to expensive repairs. 2. Do not completely cover the machine. You can put a sheet or cloth over the top, be mindful not to cover the ventilation ports on the machine as this can lead to moisture buildup and damage. 3. Remove the paper. similar to the above point, it holds moisture and can lead to issues. 4. Besides the power chord, disconnect all other cables if they are unnecessary. Power surges can occur not only through the power chord, but also through the network and fax cable.
