12.01.2022 El Patio’s good friend Gail Woods is looking for help to get a project up for women on the Island of Mozambique (UNESCO-listed Ilha de Moçambique). She’s hoping to grow pathways into tourism for local women - for economic independence and confidence, using creativity with local fabric designs. Gail and her partner own and run Ilha Blue, an eco tourist agency which works with locals in the most delicious place in the world - we are dying to visit! On Ilha, Portuguese is spoken, but surely a Spanish-speaker like yourself might be interested in chipping in. Please have a read - there’s so much to love about it!

11.01.2022 Coming to Northcote on Sunday the 18th of October. B.B.'s Best Basque Burnt Cheesecake. A new pop-up of coffee and Spanish Burnt Cheesecake. From 9am till midda...y or sold out. This cheesecake was first created at La Viña in San Sebastián, part of Spain’s Basque Country. It began to crop up in Australia this year. The cheesecake uses mainly cream cheese and eggs making it hal-way between a cheesecake and a creme-caramel. It also contains heavy or whipping cream which makes it soft and rich. Baked at a high temperature, the cheesecake rises, literally burns on the top, and then falls as it cools, creating the signature dark, sunken centers. The jagged edges are also part of the magic, thanks to baking paper folded and layered into the dish. The burnt tops have a caramelised, slightly bitter flavour that goes so beautifully with the sweet, soft but firm filling. It’s really unlike anything you've tasted!

When you add -illo to many masculine nouns in Spanish, it indicates something endearing or small. This example is slightly different, however, and -illo changes the meaning completely and is almost used in a sarcastic or patronising, jokey way to change it from being clever to being a smart ass).
