25.01.2022 Hi lovelies. Are you looking for ways to improve your wellness and your home. @renodesignshow have just posted the interview with Kate and I where we share how you can do that. Head over to their IG page now to learn more.

25.01.2022 No filter needed #moretonisland #sunset #stunning #qld

24.01.2022 Everyone can have off days, weeks and sometimes even months. Which is why rituals are so important to keep you on track. For me it's my morning walks with a great podcast. My faves are @edmylett @luannnigara and @goaldiggerpodcast And then there are days where I just have to turn up the tunes, walk to the beat and let the rhythm guide me . Tell me, what are your rituals for staying on track?

24.01.2022 Finally making time to catch up on my favourite magazine in this beautiful location. #countrystyle #moretonisland #read #relax #wintercamping

23.01.2022 A sneak peek from my visit with Dawn yesterday .

22.01.2022 Demo has started on Dawns project today . Theres been a couple of hiccups due to retrofits and delivery timeframes because of Covid but nothing we cant handle with cool heads and awesome companies at your back . Looking forward to showing you a completed project.

22.01.2022 NAVY- Softer than black but deep and seductive. It evokes the emotions of heavy clouds and deep oceans creating rooms that invite long conversations over good whiskey. Layer with texture, brass, leather and warm tones in linen.

22.01.2022 Lisa and Paul made the decision during covid lockdown that the idea of waiting for their dream beach house shouldn't wait. They're diving right in and I'm so grateful to be part of their journey . I'm bringing all of those beach feels to this special place.

21.01.2022 Kids Spaces- while we may not want to have our homes feeling like a giant childs room it is nice when you can allow your kids a little fun and personality in the shared areas of your home. This is the shelving I made for my daughters craft desk. Her desk sits behind a wall so we dont see it immediately (by it I mean her mess ) because often theres a project or two underway. The storage containers, desk and shelves reflect the colours throughout our home. But the splashes of colour in the painted timber beads, books and her chair add just enough fun to say glitter zone .

21.01.2022 When you’re at @targetaus and get sidetracked styling their homewares now what was I here for #stylingartificialflowers #designer #brisbane

21.01.2022 I popped into @adairs today and I have to say Im loving the native references. Whether its an animal print, foliage in a vase from just out there or a local botanical scent they will ground your home and connect you with your natural environment. . #botanical #homewares #design #biophilicdesign #australia

20.01.2022 Because Dawn needs a beautiful bedroom and bathroom to match her kitchen. How fabulous is that wallpaper by Australian Designer @native.swinson ...

20.01.2022 Keeping up to date with a @polytec_qldselectionstudio cpd. I am loving the botanical inspired colours coming out of Polytec. They’re perfect for anyone looking to quiet their interiors or introduce a little biophilic design. #biophilicdesign #interiordesign #colour #brisbane

20.01.2022 This bedroom corner . Loving the afternoon light on my new @adairs sheepskin . Corners like this offer a place to nurture your soul. Somewhere to brush off the day, review what was beautiful and build for the next. #brisbane #bedroomcorner #comfyhome #afternoonlight #sheepskin #myhome #designer #diy #designblogger

19.01.2022 If you’re looking to create pretty shelving arrangements here’s a few easy tips: -Create different heights using things like books and vases. -Create little groups rather than spreading everything evenly. -Balance your colours across the space. -Throw in some personal, quirky items (do you see the oversized snail shell my son found)... -Always add plants #shelf #styling #advice #interiors #design #decorate #brisbaneinteriordesigners

19.01.2022 Yesterday while I was picking up pieces for clients I made time to pick up these beauties from @wheelandbarrowhomewares and Im so glad that I did. Theyre bringing me so much joy and when youre happy you get a little shot of serotonin which is good for your health. So this was an investment in my health .

18.01.2022 I have found myself mending more and more things lately. Like this beautiful little shelving unit. It’s in its third home now and I suspect it will stay here for awhile because I just love it . I enjoy the process of taking something broken or aged and breathing new life back into it. I like the idea of it having a past story, sometimes shown in its finishes. Being damaged or old doesn’t mean usefulness is over...Just like people . #shelfie #shelfstyling #interiordesigner #pretty #home #brisbane #sustainable #recycle #furniture

17.01.2022 I'm wondering, what does success look like to you and how is your goal setting travelling this year? I bet it's been a year of goal destruction and feeling lost in the weeds at times for a lot of people . But when everything is turned over and messed up it does give us the opportunity to put it back together in a different way. You are offered the freedom to redefine what success looks like to you and start over...maybe creating a life so much more beautiful than befo...re. I have personally found that this year has given me greater clarity around what I want and that is absolutely a greater focus on creating home...for my family and yours . by me at the home of my lovely client Diana. See more

17.01.2022 Brand Hero have been helping me to create a new logo and business cards for my business. My efforts just weren't quite hitting the mark and really I needed to get back to dong what I do. Chantalle was so patient with me (I can be a little fussy LOL) and she created something beautiful (The font is her handwriting which I thing is pretty cool). Thanks guys xo

17.01.2022 I popped into my fave florist @wattleanddaisy today and look at the beautiful flowers that were awaiting . I immediately thought of being in an Alice in wonderland garden with singing flowers. Honestly, if you need a beautiful bouquet (or simply deserve one ) Maddison is always well stocked. #wedding #flowers #style #samfordvalley #beautiful #orchid #florist #brisbane

17.01.2022 Most people have them... a corner of the home that is really quite unloved . Well if you're looking to give your dank and dusty corners a lift why not check out some of the ways you can do that via @houzzau article "6 Ways to Maximise Dull Corners and Overlooked Spots in Your Home". I've contributed some excellent advice to it as have some other wonderful designers. https://www.houzz.com.au//6-ways-to-maximise-dull-corners-

16.01.2022 Laundry designing today for a lovely local family . We've made sure a few extra luxuries have been included here such as a hidden dirty laundry basket, an ironing board in a draw and even a space for the dogs biscuits .

14.01.2022 You may not see your front entry often in the day but it sets the tone for whats to come. Make sure it reflects your style and feels welcoming. #entry #home #design #art #console #samfordvalley

14.01.2022 Drafting up some finishes for a @pentarchi project today. It is always such a privilege to be part of the process of creating a home that has evergreen characteristics about it. #foreverhome #wightsmountain #design #evergreen #architects

14.01.2022 Hi . My name is Bec and I am the founder of @elskainteriors but I'm also the voice behind @ida_designassociation SM. I started my design journey after realizing that the corporate world just wasn't for me...but it was super scary and a little lonely. I was a lady switching careers from scientist/ risk manager to design in her 30's. I thought the industry just might not accept me. I was always worried that I was the odd one out or that I might say something stupid. ... Then one day an IDA member approached me at an event and asked if I was a member... All of a sudden a network of supportive people opened up in front of me. I felt connected and realized that of course other people have walked similar paths and have plenty of knowledge to share. Now I'm the voice for IDA because I want to be part of the support network they're offering to our industry. Thank you @virginia_bishop_interiors for speaking to me that day. You changed my world . This week the @hia_au Qld Building Women Awards are happening and @ida_designassociation nominated me for my contributions. Thank you so much for my nomination. It is especially humbling knowing how many amazing women are in our industry. Thank you to my hubby for patiently taking of me until I was happy .

14.01.2022 Life is still drifting to its new normal. It's still unclear exactly what that will look like. My hubby is still working in my office and I'm wondering if I should create a second work space for us. I'm used to working alone with my music and candles....I like a seriously zen workspace. My hubby lives in corporate world with LOTS of loud meetings. It's not all bad though. He helps more with cooking and the kids now... and we can have lunch dates which is lovely. ... Has your home changed? Do you like it? Read my article "The Evolution Of Home Post Covid" for the permanent changes I see coming. http://elskainteriors.com.au/the-evolution-of-home-post-co/

13.01.2022 Kate and I are so excited to see our onset video with Rachel from the @renodesignshow coming out tomorrow on IGTV . We cover a really important topic around home, wellness and the future of home. Make sure you take a look.

12.01.2022 Loving the fresh feel in this kitchen for my client Dawn . Dawn definitely knows what she likes. I'm just the lucky lady helping her to turn her ideas into reality.

12.01.2022 This beautiful little guy is celebrating 100 days of prep today (belated due to Covid) and hes grown so much in that time. He has just started to get a grasp on the concept of death. So tricky for kids... well people in general. The other night he asked if Id still be there when hes an old man. I told him that I wouldnt but all the love I filled him with would stay. That baby boy freaked out that he might accidentally give all my love away. Little dude... love only ever makes more love .

10.01.2022 Have you written your year off ? A lot of people have and Ive said those words myself. But when a friend of mine who is quite resilient said it, I was caused to reflect on my year and what I really thought. The fact is the year looks pretty bad at first glance. Businesses are not running as they should, economies are failing, kids school years have been greatly disrupted, some of us may have gained wait due to extra wine , people have been disconnected and that's not the... worst of it . But a write off means nothing worth saving happened. The year will not be a write off if you stop dwelling on the change and the ugly of the year. Start to look for what was excellent and what can still happen. We have seen people come together in times of need through the bushfires, common people are rallying for change against powerful tyrannical governments, and we've seen mindset growth about what is important to us. Personally, I learned how to help my daughter in her learning strategies thanks to home schooling. I finished projects around the house that had been constantly pushed back. I discovered my voice and chose not to be afraid to share it. Life has never been perfect and it certainly won't be now. But life is still wonderful if you seek it out. I hope that you are finding your happy place and if you're not please reach out to someone you trust, because you are important and deserve to be happy. xo

10.01.2022 Warm, velvety Chamomile tea. The soft lighting of a Lamp. The scent of lavender lingering on linen sheets. A quiet moment to reflect on the day and plan for the next. A perfect ritual to create excellent sleep.

09.01.2022 So blown away to be nominated by @ida_designassociation with these amazing women for the @hia_au Women in Construction awards. . #awards #women #construction

07.01.2022 So grateful @hortecouture and I managed to get out on Friday to see some suppliers before lockdown. We had a wonderful time viewing the new range from @globewest and the brand new showroom @julesbaxter_au

06.01.2022 Our beautiful girl is turning ten this week which is hard to believe. We were lucky enough to be able to host a party with 8 of her friends. My little crafter opted for a creativity party including slime, jewelry making, painting and decorate your own cupcake and pizza. This was a winning party idea for a ten year old. And it was hers . Swipe to see the cake by Justine Bowtell-Harris. It is stunning . #birthday #kid #samfordvalley #cake #creativity #brisbanekids @ Samford Valley

06.01.2022 I have to say I am honestly blown away by how much support my business has been shown this year . When you throw your very stable career in to chase your dream and you're approaching 40 there's a lot of doubt that comes with that. My dad did admit that he thought it was a bit crazy at the time. Fortunately he said nothing but supportive things . Growing a business for the first time really is like nurturing a garden while you figure out what plants need to live. There's a lot of plants that get thrown in the bin. But all of that care for my little business now means I am booked out for major projects until November and I am helping numerous people create their special homes. If you would like me to work with you on your project after that time or in 2021 get in touch so I can hold a place for you.

05.01.2022 Hi lovely ? Have you been let back into your office yet? I know some of you are still working from home with no change in sight. Some offices are even opting to shift to a permanent work from home situation. If that's you it might be time to consider a more permanent and suitable office set up. Luckily I have a stack of tips for you over on my blog. http://elskainteriors.com.au/a-workspace-to-love/ Enjoy xo

05.01.2022 At the beginning of my design phase I always take time to define the feeling I’m looking to create for my clients. The feeling is born out of the needs they express, the personalities of their family and their home. This video encapsulates the feeling I am looking to create for a kitchen design that leads to a beautiful garden with a pizza oven built by my clients. I hope that it brings them and their sons all the joy I can see. #brisbane #kitchendesign #beautiful #authentic #generous #designstrategies #australiandesign

05.01.2022 Your rangehood can be more than just functional. Turn it into a beautiful focal point with beautiful tiles, your favourite pottery, art and plants.

04.01.2022 I just love it when I visit the @thebuildanddesigncentre and they have something new and innovative on display. This product by @staronsolidsurfaces is a solid surface that has been etched creating a beautiful tactile focal point. When backlit it takes on yet another dimension. The dimensions can be as big as you need. This is only one of the applications of staron solid surfaces so why not take a look at the other exciting things theyre capable of. Or head to the build and design centre on Merivale St, Brisbane to see it in person, not to mention the other great displays ready to get your renovation ideas flowing. #renovate #solidsurfaces #design #pattern #create #imagine @ South Brisbane, Queensland

03.01.2022 We are back from holidays & Moreton Island was amazing . We had such a wonderful time enjoying whale and dolphin watching, windswept coastlines dotted with starfish and sandy adventures. The nights were filled with laughter and long conversations with our beautiful friends. Who could wish for more.... You know I often find when I come back from camping that the house feels larger, I have a greater appreciation for the conveniences of home and I have remembered how important it is to stop and enjoy a conversation, rather than the TV. If you're keen to refocus on conversation, try camping...or create a living room geared for it. You can read some of my "how to" advice in the Houzz article "11 Ways To Make Your Living Room More Social (and not about the tv)". https://www.houzz.com.au//11-ways-to-make-your-living-room

02.01.2022 A sneak peek from my visit with Dawn yesterday . #tap #brass #pennytile #laundry

02.01.2022 Bricks Are Back Baby- they fell out of the limelight for awhile after a stint of not so fabulous brick overload in the 70s and 80s. But the choices available to us now are beautiful, evocative and earthy. Even more importantly they offer excellent thermal mass to your property, theyre low maintenance and fire resistant. If youre considering building materials for a new build or a renovation take a look at what @pghbricks have on offer. Their Oxley Qld showroom is great. #build #brisbane #bricks #facade @ Oxley, Queensland, Australia

02.01.2022 Look at this pretty little thing . This morning I dropped Dawns beautiful bathroom/ laundry pieces off ready for build. Its great when a client loves the pieces more in person than on screen .

02.01.2022 What do Singapore & Brisbane have in common? Well not a lot right now. However, have you heard about Singapore's goal around rewilding their city? Their city planning is designed to achieve a feeling of "A City In A Garden" ... rather than a garden within a city. I love this idea especially when it's backed by sensible legislation. It improves the local environment and wellness of the city's occupants. So when I heard that Aria Property Group have proposed a buil...ding for Merivale Street that would be considered the greenest residential building in the world, I felt a sudden spark of excitement . The building has been designed by Koichi Takada Architects who believe in mass greening of cities to lift sustainability and livability standards. Because Brisbane is a relatively young city, we have a real chance at moving towards a Singapore level of greening. This building is a great example of Biophilic Design in practice. If you would like to understand some of the other principles of Biophilic Design and the reasons for rewilding our cities head to my article "Bringing Nature Home For Wellness And Health". http://elskainteriors.com.au/bringing-nature-home-for-well/

01.01.2022 Another week almost done. Didnt quite get to all of my deadlines (deadlines set by me ). But Ive learned in this game its better to run late and get it right than be early and average.
