23.01.2022 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO TOORALE STATION REPORT Further photos of the Dams on Toorale No infrastructure has been removed to date. On the 1st April 2019 the NSW office of Environment announced that the first public consultation for the Toorale Infrastructure Project, Review Of Environmental Factors had commenced for phase 1. The Consultation period ended on the 30th April 2019. Consultation, as opposed to works.... The Toorale Water Infrastructure Project seeks to modify existing Storage’s on Toorale to enable greater quantities of flows through the Warrego River into the Darling River, and to improve conditions so that fish can more easily move through this reach. There are two phases. Phase 1 - The removal of Peebles Dam and repairs to Homestead Dam Phase 2 - Modifications to Boera, Booka and Homestead dams including construction of fish passage structures. Any doubts, google Toorale Infrastructure Project. It is happening, but nothing has happened yet. Hence the question, Why not in the last 11 years ? Clearly Peebles Dam is intact as are Dicks, Homestead and Booka Dams. Peebles Dam on the day the photos were taken was pushing water into Ross’s Billabong. There is some debate on whether or not that water will return to the Darling. Toorale was purchased to return an average of 20000 megalitres each year, to the Darling. Not my words, they are the Governments of the day ,as per the link here here, from a 2008 article. https://www.abc.net.au//toorale-station-sale-to-hit/506584 The same report states Toorale held 14billion litres (14000 megalitres) Of yearly extraction limits. In relation to Boera Dam, the photo report says, this is where the main problem is. No-One is suggesting Boera Dam should be removed. Simply put a decent regulator in it, so it does not spill out over the breach level, and water is not running out to the flood plain. Then that surplus water can freely flow downstream. That could well be applicable to other dams on the property if there is a stock and domestic requirement etc. Maintain it in the main channel and certainly close it off when the flow stops for those priority needs in the Warrego. Not disagreeing with the relevance and importance of eco systems, however they should not take precedence over downstream communities who have had no flow for over 12 months and trying to survive on putrid pools of green slop. Particularly, when the opportunity was there, and has been there for some 11 years. See more
