25.01.2022 Update from Warrnambool. The girls were beaten 13-18. A really good effort considering there opponents. No further details available at this stage.
22.01.2022 Round nine. The number one side welcomed second placed Moonee Ponds with the winner taking second spot. All rinks were fairly tight early but Wayne Byrnes rink slowly started to get on top and ran out a 25-11 winner. Ernie’s rink hung for a two shot win, Shane’s rink had a draw and Hugh’s rink went down by 8 shots. Final score 79-68 and 15 points and second spot. The second side made the short trip to Montmorency. Franks rink only went down 4 shots, Daniel by 6, Wayne by 10 a...nd Noel by 13. Always tough travelling to Monty especially this season. Big game next week against Greensborough at home. Final score 70-103. The third side played top side Templestowe away. Jim had a 4 shot win but the other sides struggled on there slow green. Nev lost by 6, Greg by 13 and Vincent by 14. Final score 69-98 and 2 points. The fourth side played Donvale a team they would have felt they could beat. But it was not to be, Bill Lumsden rink did their best to carry them over the line winning by 17 shots 27-10. Maureen lost by 3, Jenny by 6 and David by 14 shots. Final score 71-77 and 2 points. The fifth side were looking for there second win of the season against Montmorency. After slow start all sides eventually won. Archie’s rink lead the way winning by 9 shots followed by Ken by 10, Carol by 6 and Johnny Warden playing his first game back from a knee replacement won by 5 shots. Final score 88-58 and 16 points. Two sides up hopefully next week brings better results.
22.01.2022 Runners up in over 60’s Pairs Wayne Byrne and Peter Toovey. Beaten by one shot after being down 14/2 after 10 ends. Disappointed but proud of the way we came back and actually lead 15/14 coming to the last end. But sadly dropped a two. Beaten by a side from MCC.
22.01.2022 First game of pennant after the break. The sun was out and the first side welcomed Kingsbury who were sitting third on the ladder. Shane and Hugh’s rink both had big wins by 16 and 24 shots. The final score was 109 to 76 and 14 points. After Ivanhoe we’re beaten by Fairfield we are now top of the ladder. The second side travelled to Donvale. All games were close and with three ends to go scores were level. Wayne Harvey’s rink had a magnificent 31-11 win and managed to snag th...e ten points. They were the only winning rink. Final score 77-73 and 12 points. First win for the year. Well done. The third side went up the road to Diamond Creek but disappointingly went down 76 to 92. Greg Lambert’s rink managed to have a win 25/18. The fourth side played host to Yarra Valley C.C. The battled hard all day but were beaten 64-77. Jenny and Maureen’s rinks had a wins. John Elliott’s rink were forced to play one short and try hard all day and only went down by 9 shots. The fifth side were also at home against Greensborough. It was very close right to the end but they just fell short by 5 shots. Winnings rinks were skipped by the two Kens. Final score 81-86. First round of the Men’s Pair tomorrow good luck to all players. Games kick of at 10.00am
22.01.2022 Results from today’s first round of the men’s pairs. On rink two we had a clash of the favourites Shane and Daryl playing Jimmy and Billy Lee. Shane and Daryl had to play really well to beat Jim and Bill. After four hours and 23 ends the favourites got up by 10 shots. On rink three we had Daniel and Gareth up against Bruce and Steve. Daniel and Gareth managed to win 24-18 after being down 11-18 after 12 ends.... On rink four Glen and David took on the Hugh and Peter. Glen and David were 10 down after two ends and never recovered going down 35-8. On rink five Ernie and Noel played Joe and Ron. After an even 10 ends Joe and Ron pulled away and won 21-11. Wayne and Neville played Paul and Brent earlier in the week and ran out fairly comfortable winners. No scores available. A very hot day on the synthetic. The second round sees Shane and Daryl take on Wayne Wilson and Tim. Wayne and Nev play Daniel and Gareth. Hugh and Peter take on Eric and Frank and the last game is between Joe and Ron up against Wayne Harvey and Adam.
20.01.2022 Happening right now. Paul lngle's Lightning Jazz band at the Bowling Club for Jazz by the Green. Full house as usual and great music.
18.01.2022 Another wonderful Christmas breakup. Plenty of laughs from Santa and her two elves. A another delicious two course dinner provided by Jan M.Jan T, Wendy, Elaine and Edna. Also special mention to Steven and Noel Spargo for running the bar.
16.01.2022 Men’s and Women’s over 60’s Pairs continue from last Monday week. At Greensborough with had Ernie and Eric as well as Frank and Peter. Ernie and Eric started the game 13-2 down but could not overcome the big margin and lost 21-7. Peter and Frank held a slender margin of 8-7 but that was quickly eroded away dropping 9 shots in two ends. The final score 22/9.... At Eltham we had Sue and Ros continuing their game locked at 6 all. Ros and Sue got into the game quickly and had a very solid win 16-9. Now for the semi final against a composite side who had steam rolled all their opponents. The game was close right up the last end with the score at 15-13 ours girls up by two. Their opponents managed to get two shots and take the game to a tiebreak. What an end, you had to be here appreciate the shot Ros played to win the game. She had a few old timers shaking there heads in disbelief but she picked up the jack and it put virtually impossible for the opposition to get near the jack. Well done to Sue and Ros you have done our club proud. The final will be played at Eltham on Wednesday 17th February not sure of the time at this stage.
16.01.2022 The draw was completed tonight for the Men’s Club Pairs Championship. The first round is due to be completed on or before the 10th of January. The draw as follows. Tim Smith and Wayne Wilson have a first round Bye. They will play the winners of Waddingham/ Chidley pairing up against Yarwood and Lee. Tough start for Jim and Bill up against Daryl last years winner and Shane this years singles runner up. Next game is between Byrne/Pawley playing Hickey/Blackwell. Interesting gam...e Paul and Brent having won a couple of seasons ago and Wayne and Nev who are always very competitive when playing together. They were part of last years winning Triples combination. Another interesting game Steve Spargo/Bruce Irvine up against a couple of younger members Gareth Toovey/Daniel Henery. Should be an interesting encounter. Hard to pick a winner. Both sides aiming for there first club pairs title. Next game is between the two H’s Hudson and Hosking taking on two of senior members Robertson and Toovey. Hugh and Peter won three seasons ago but David and Glen are both playing well this season and will be hard to beat. Eric Butcher and Frank Camera have a bye and will come up against the winners of the last game. The matchup between two of the clubs legends Richards and Spargo up against Bartolo and Stafford should be a cracker. Joe coming off winning his first club singles championship and Ron who is always competitive in these sort of events. Ernie and Noel have won this event on five occasions and were runners up last year. Wayne Harvey and Adam Ryan have a bye and will play the winners of this game. It is hard to pick a winner of the title at this stage but the Waddingham/Chidley combination will be hard to beat with both having won the title in the last two years. Good luck to everybody.
