07.01.2022 The cherry trees are now netted, to keep out the birds which have descended from four directions to feast upon cherries not ripe. Attracted by spots of red, the birds take one bite, leaving behind the unripe to rot or drop to the ground. No more shall they feast now the nets are up, but there are other small creatures lurking on the tree - Aphids - and daily the trees are checked, squishing the aphids with fingers, so the organic cherries will grow plump and red to feast on in coming weeks......but if there is too much rain, not enough sun and breeze, the cherries are at risk of fungus and no cherries to eat. To be organic, spray free, means daily, diligently, nursing the cherry trees and we will be rewarded with juicy red cherries. So, to the orchard again, to remove the invaders from the cherry trees.
