25.01.2022 SMALL BUSINESS Its been a sad week for our local community. We lost our family owned IGA. It had been open for 86 years and owned by the same family. I was particularly upset because I worked there and they made the BEST beef and gravy rolls (pregnancy craving ). When I worked there 15 years ago, I was studying fashion and newly single. I met a great bunch of people, there were many laughs and nights out. This was pre-Facebook so this was how I made new friends and even ...met my future husband!! Yes, Dave and I met stacking shelves at our local IGA. He was not on my radar at the time... ummm he wore cargos, bandanas and had unruly dreadlocks... quite frankly, he scared me!! Anyway, I soon realised he was just a big softie and the rest is history Back to my point, small business, god damn, its bloody hard out there atm! I know you, like everyone else, is budget conscious but please, please, please support the local businesses in your community. It is so easy, and yes - at times, cheaper to shop with the big guys but we need to keep small businesses alive. They add such value to our community. I come from a family that runs a small business (my Dad took on his Dads building business), Ive worked for small businesses and I own a small business. By buying from a small business - you are boosting the local economy and directly helping them support their family. Youll often find that you receive better service and value for money. It makes me wonder, where will Georgia find her first job? 24.01.2022 Our last workshop for the year will be this Saturday (2nd November) There are still a couple of tickets left if you would like to join us and ignite your passion for sewing You don't need any experience and this time we will be hosting it at our studio - think expansive cutting table, oodles of room to bring your own sewing machine or have a go on one of our machines. At the last event, one of our attendees modified not only but THREE dresses that were sitting in her ...cupboard unused. It's the perfect time to whip our those frocks that need some altering! 22.01.2022 I guess like lots of Aussies, Ive been feeling helpless these last couple of weeks as I watch the East coast burn from afar. The threat is very real. At first I thought I could help by doing a sewing busy bee but I was worried I couldnt do it soon enough. Then I realised, it doesnt matter if it happens this week or next week, there are literally thousands of animals that need our help. So, next weekend - Saturday 18th January we will be hosting a sewing busy bee in our stu...dio. We will be following the guidelines of what is currently required and aiming to make what is still needed. Well get started at 12.30pm, due to space we do need to cap numbers. Please DM to confirm your availability and interest. If you have a machine you could bring and any cotton/flannelette youd like to donate, that would be amazing otherwise I think we have everything we need to get the job done would love to see some of our workshop attendees come along! 22.01.2022 Intimate moments between these two You might be wondering how it all starts? Well it starts with love of course, I'm not the mushy kind but it really does. You find yourself in love, newly engaged and suddenly planning a wedding. ... Although some brides might have their dream dress in mind right from the start, I suggest you consider when you want to get married and lock in a venue and a date first. Take your time, research and think about what is important to the two of you. Then you can get started on the rest... photographer, wedding outfits (the dress ), styling etc. Over the next few weeks, we'll discuss the process we take you through when you opt for a custom design. 21.01.2022 When your gorgeous bride manages to get married just before super tight covid-19 restrictions came into place. Susie, we are so happy for you both!! You looked absolutely stunning and I cant wait to see a few more photos by @amyskinnerphotography stay safe friends x

20.01.2022 Why did I start the #elvidesignworkshops ? I started a teaching degree just over 10 years ago because I felt depleted by the fashion industry. It's a really tough industry to work in and I wanted to do something more 'meaningful' I'm cringing writing that!! I soon found my way and what I needed through creating custom made wedding dresses because I truly believe that every bride, no matter what shape or size, deserves to feel beautiful on their special day. I love that ...we play a special role in that!! However, I guess after having Georgia, I had another 'what am I doing moment?'. I love what I do but I really wanted to feel the love for sewing again and share it with others. That was when I came up the concept of our hand sewing and alteration workshops. So when I get feedback like this, it truly makes my heart sing - thank you Lorilee! TESTIMONIAL // I spent a morning recently at Elvi Designs Hand Sewing 101 workshop. What a great way to spend a few hours - learning new skills with a bunch of like-minded people, under the guidance of the lovely (and very patient!) Sandra and Birgitta. Highly recommend, thanks again and I look forward to the next one! - Lorilee, 2019 Image @themilestonestudio See more

20.01.2022 Its only taken me 10 weeks but Im back blogging! Today Im sharing Chandres beautiful wedding in South Africa (back in a time when we had destination weddings ) Chandre spotted one of our designs at a bridal fair quite some time before her wedding, she knew she had to come and see us for her wedding dress. She wanted something different and had even contemplated a dark wedding dress before coming across our Lorilee bias cut silk wedding dress. We changed the colour of ...the design to create something truly unique, Chandre opted for a mushroom coloured heavy silk satin, the end result was breathtaking! 20.01.2022 This is me... in my wedding dress... from almost 6 years ago it doesnt fit me but you know what, I didnt even care, Im happy I felt vulnerable slipping back into it for @biancakatephotography s #nostalgicbride series but it brought back so many wonderful memories and it was a really fun arvo with Bianca at the time of our wedding, every single little detail was meticulously thought out but now I dont remember all those little aesthetic details. I remember the comf...orting words my Dad gave me in the car, holding Daves hands at the end of aisle, our epic choreographed wedding dance, lots of laughs at our reception and busting out some serious moves on the dance floor. Six years on, the only physical items from the day are our wedding outfits and our photos. I guess what Im trying to say is... dont get too caught up in the planning and details of your wedding day... just focus on what is important to you and the marriage youre about to embark on photo @biancakatephotography See more

15.01.2022 We went to a dear friends wedding yesterday and obviously, it was stinking hot!!! I dont often post photos of me and the hubs but I didnt get a photo of me on my own to show you my #memade #loisdress by @tessutifabrics so sorry but not sorry Dave, I had to share my dress Its a super flattering little number that I have made before, I whipped this one up in a lightweight silk crepe. Very delicate to work with but amazing to wear (especially in the heat)... hopefully I can share a picture of the bride soon hope you all had a good weekend and kept cool?!

14.01.2022 You may be wondering what weve been up to. Well, Ive spent most of the last month or so chasing my adorable toddler (swipe right ) and when Ive had spare time, Ive dashed over to the studio to tidy up. I think this is the first time in the almost ten years weve been in business that weve actually had quiet time. Although its been unfortunate (for everyone), weve made the most of the time sorting out our HUGE collection of laces and fabrics. I must say, its been good for the soul!! As for whats next? Were working on a handful of exciting projects and I will also be welcoming baby #2 late June Take care and stay safe @ Kalamunda, Western Australia, Australia

14.01.2022 What a decade! I started my business in 2011 so Ive spent most of this decade working on Elvi Design. That just blows my mind! Thank you for following my journey and to the Elvi brides for your love and support over the past decade. I love seeing how your lives continue to change in wonderful ways post wedding. As you can see, this past year has been about collaborating with creatives and spending time with my little girl, Georgia Wishing you all a very happy New Year! Who knows what 2020 will bring?!

14.01.2022 Chandre & Cuan Chandre’s bias cut truffle silk satin gown was to die for. I think you can almost see how luxurious the fabric felt in this photo. Do you have a preference for silk? I know I do... Image @kobustollig

13.01.2022 Officially on MATERNITY LEAVE huzzah! I cant believe Ive almost made it to the end of this pregnancy. It has been challenging to say the least and especially hard with a toddler to chase. If I was completely honest, I havent been able to sew since 30 weeks as Ive had excruciating nerve pain under my ribs. Sewing and driving have been unbearable I have been working on some exciting web stuff and doing all that boring paperwork we have to do as small biz owners Thank...fully, our current brides are in very good hands and I already cant wait to get back to the studio! We have some beautiful made-to-measure designs being created for next season. We are definitely pushing our couture edge and I cant wait to show you! Ill let you know when this baby makes its arrival. I know that every nauseated, painful day will be worth it when we get soak up those warm, milky newborn snuggles And yes, it is possible that this baby could have more hair than G So grateful for @christinelimm capturing this moment in time

13.01.2022 TESTIMONIAL// My gosh my dress!! Was a total dream to wear on the day and I could not be happier Thank you both for being amazing and being so caring, having an eye for detail and not being like any other pushy bridal store! Best decision I ever made and worth every cent!! ~ Ellen... Image @ameliaclairephoto

13.01.2022 Ahhh, its been so hard to know what is right to post on social media atm. However, I will start sharing some photos of my recent brides, the odd blog post and my personal sewing projects as I stay at home. I think we could all do with something to look at that isnt the news! On that note, Grace and Anthony eloped last month in Tasmania. They were due to host a wedding party in April but have since cancelled it. They are both health workers and have put their hands up to be ...deployed where they are needed most. You two are bloody legends, putting yourself on the frontline and helping our fellow Australians in need! I thank you from the bottom of my heart, I happen to know that you are exceptional human beings and Im so grateful I could be a part of your special day. Congratulations on your marriage! Sending you love and best wishes as you face the battle ahead Photo: tbc

11.01.2022 Happy Friday all! Today I have a lovely testimonial to share with you from my dear friend Libby I have known Sandra as a dear friend for the past 12 years and have followed her journey with Elvi Design ever since she started the business. From the beginning I noticed her designs came with elegance and a classic style that I just adored and hoped to one day experience. Sandra and Birgitta's attention to detail and love for quality really comes through in their artwork which... I could also feel on the day as I was so comfortable! Every fitting I fell more in love and felt so comfortable in the dress and at their beautiful studio. Without a doubt I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Elvi Design to anyone that wants to feel the way I did on my wedding day. Thank you Sandra and Birgitta for making me feel so beautiful! xx See more

11.01.2022 Happy Friday friends! It feels like things are looking up here in Aus, I cant wait for life to be kinda normal again so folks can get married just how they planned to, like these two cuties, Ellen & Aleks. 09.01.2022 This is me and my life right now. These two little beings. Some days are shit, some days are truly wonderful. I am soaking up every minute of our little Fred. Every day is chaotic and fun, I’m often told ‘you have your hands full’ by random strangers. I love it but I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you how much I also relish the moment I get to sit down at the end of the day and both kids are asleep. I’m learning to let go - of the idea of a routine with Fred (he just has to fi...t in with Georgia), a tidy home and a compliant toddler (that was NEVER going to happen and I wouldn’t want her to be anyway ) and just embrace the imperfection. I’m not even sorry that I haven’t been present on the ‘gram. I have been replying to emails, keeping in touch with my clients, working on a little side hustle @ellieandviolet and looking after my family So I guess the big questions is... going forward, what do you guys want to see more of? Our bridal projects, sewing workshops, my personal sewing projects, my life with two under two, our journey into parenthood? DM me or comment below... A big thank you to Tammie of @themilestonestudio for capturing my world right now

06.01.2022 There has been a lot of talk about how we as individuals can reduce our carbon footprint. The fast fashion world is nasty (no judgement here, I know it can be an easy go-to). What Im suggesting is that we all stop and think before purchasing something new. Do I have something stashed in the back of my wardrobe? Could I fix this broken strap? Sew on that button? Shorten that sleeve? Not sure where to start? Join us at our Sewing Machine 101 workshop (I know youve inherited ...that gorgeous little sewing machine from your Nanna and have no idea where to start). Youll learn the basics of a sewing machine and leave with confidence At our Repair & Wear workshop youll learn how to alter your own clothes or we can help you if you are stuck with your current sewing project (I know you, youve got a stash of half-finished items, I can be a victim of this too, let us help you ). Link in our bio to Get Tickets or jump on our Facebook page. These workshops can be done individually or join us for the whole afternoon. Be snappy, Ive already sold a couple of spots to each without advertising Cant make this date? Send me a msg and Ill pop you on the list for details of the next one.

05.01.2022 Stepping into the weekend How did we achieve this look? 10 layers of tulle and a petticoat to give it that extra oomph!! It created the perfect shape for Steph's tulle skirt and can we just take a moment to appreciate those shoes?? Who said bridal shoes have to be boring Image @aimeeclairephotography

05.01.2022 What are we good at? Little details. The lace scollop at the bottom of a sleeve, a silk waistband, handmade buttons. Thats what you get when you choose handmade Image @ameliaclairephoto
