15.01.2022 VALE JOHN "MACCA" MCKAY It is with great sadness we inform you that John 'Macca' MacKay passed away yesterday, 30th September, aged 68, finally succumbing to a lengthy battle with cancer of the liver. Macca was recruited to Elwood Bowls Club in 2014 by his best mate and three-time club champion, Wayne Pugh. As long time mates they enjoyed casual roll ups at the club and would often be joined by Sue Jamieson, (someone had to get a toucher), exchanging barbs and taunts the n...ature of which is reserved solely for the strongest of friendships.. A regular at the Saturday Social Bowls during winter he loved the social interaction with other members and also the opportunity to express his somewhat dry and direct sense of humour. Macca dabbled in pennant, and whilst he represented the club with pride and passion, his career was somewhat limited due to his health. Regardless, there is no doubt that Macca loved the club, the members, the good times he had with Wayno and Sue, and also any opportunity to 'stick it' to the President: M: "Mr President, have you finished?" P: 'Not yet' T: "Oh, that's a shame." Macca is survived by his three daughters and their mother, to whom we express our sincere condolences and best wishes. Macca's wish was to move on without any fuss, there will be no service. "Thanks for the Good Times Macca!"

14.01.2022 Good to see the COVID case numbers coming down, well done to everyone. Hopefully will not be long before we’re back doing what we love, having a roll and mixing with friends.

12.01.2022 Life Member Herb Kyriakos peacefully passed away last week surrounded by his family. Our condolences to his wife Maria, three daughters Christina, Yvonne, and Lynette, and extended family. Herbie's contribution to the club throughout his 30 years membership in both the bowls and golf sections, was extraordinary. His official capacities included Chairman of the Board, Secretary and Treasurer of the Golf Section, Bowls Committee positions, and Bowls Coach. However, most will r...emember Herb as a genuine friend who loved life, loved his club, and his fellow members. (Unfortunately he also loved the Carlton Football Club, but we wont hold that against him.) A successful business person in his own right, Herb shared a wealth of knowledge with the Club, playing a pivotal role in combining the Golf and Bowls Sections to form the Sports Club in 1999. Perhaps he gained some extra energy from the Blues preliminary final upset over the Bombers. Herb loved a conversation, and in the odd moments of having to accommodate foolish behavior, his go-to was 'Watch My Lips'! He adored our Saturday Social Bowls, and indeed any opportunity to share stories, bowls and other wise, with his fellow friends and members. A Great Man who cannot be replaced, will be sorely missed, to whom we owe a very, very, great deal. A webcast service will be held for Herb, hosted by Nelson Brothers, on Wednesday 13th January at 10.30am, and can be accessed via the Nelson Brothers Funerals website. https://www.nelsonbros.com.au//Herbert-Herbie-George-Kyria
