16.01.2022 Nine years ago, I fell through the roof of my house. Full of anger and bitterness at a ‘husband’ who rarely did any of the work needed on our half acre of bush paradise, I climbed onto the roof with blower in hand to clean leaves from the gutters and off the patio roof. What happens when you’re angry? You usually hurt yourself. Your mind cannot be in two places at once. My mind was so focused on bitter thoughts of resentment at having to do his chores, it couldn’t focus on t...he moment at hand and, without thinking about my own safety, I stepped out and through the alsonite sheeting of the patio roof. What happened next was, suddenly I was hanging from the gutter by my right elbow and from the patio by the back of my left ankle. I had never been one for major exercise or yoga. I was not very flexible. But that day, for the first time in my life, I did full splits. I did not have the physical strength in my upper body to pull myself up. As I hung there, calling for help that never came, I felt the muscles and tendons in my hip joint and leg stretching and tearing, and in that moment my complete awareness was on the hip joint separating and pulling apart. When I thought I couldn’t bear the pain any more a miracle happened. My leg stretched enough that the ankle slipped off the roof and I crashed to the ground. As my daughters ran from the house to see what had happened, I knew I had a serious injury and I needed an ambulance to go to the hospital. But in a split second, in that moment, I knew that my (ex) husband would come home drunk and I could not leave my daughters alone with him. I got my girls to help me into the house where I propped myself on the couch and started to heal myself. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation from my western medicine training and then immediately started ‘Surrounding the Dragon’, a method of needle-less acupuncture using the tei-shin to stimulate the energy flow through the acupoints and meridian system, from my vast training in the healing arts. When the man I called my husband for twenty years came home, he stood in the doorway and stared at me. He was drunk and he was really fucking angry. He pointed his finger at me and yelled, You You just cost me fucking money In that moment of clarity, I knew I definitely did not love him anymore. Even more certainly, I knew he did not love me. But this was a magical moment. It was in this moment I knew my life had to change. Finally, I was so fucking sick of my own bullshit and the life I had created. And that change started with me. 10.01.2022 Embodying peace does not mean living a boring life. When you embody peace, you become aware that what is happening in your life is entirely your choice. You can choose to live a quiet unassuming life. Or, you can choose to go out and live a life that is sparkling, full of activity that brings joy to your inner Self, with loving interactions with beautiful, giving people.
