23.01.2022 During this tough period, maintaining good health is a key focus. However, as an international student, there is a second surviving skill that you really need to master. English communication is just as important as your academic grade. If you are not able to effectively communicate, you cant assimilate into a foreign country. https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/KArGbMfPk3zZ1KzhPXBFeA... #english #englishcommunication #internationstudents

22.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone. For those who dont know what is Easter. Here is a short explanation: Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion. Easter is the fulfilled prophecy of the Messiah who would be persecuted, die for our sins, and rise on the third day. (Isaiah 53). Remembering the resurrection of Jesus is a way to renew daily hope that we have victory over sin. According to the New Testament, Easter is three days after the death of Jesus on the cross.

19.01.2022 Facing your fears is sometimes terrifying but once you face them, they are no longer fears, they become experiences.

18.01.2022 Look at people for an example, but then make sure to do things your way. Surround yourself with positive people.

17.01.2022 An international student approached me the other day after training. She said she wants to make friends with people from various nationalities, but she is afraid that people will not like her. I asked her why? She replied that she doesnt think her English is good enough to engage in conversation with others. Here are some the tips I shared with her on being more likeable in social situations: ... Dont overshare your whole lifes story. Listen to what people say and then respond accordingly. Remember peoples names and use them as often as possible. Be super positive and awesome to be around. Work on your confidence levels. Make everyone you talk to feel special by acting as if they are the most important person in the world. #communicationskills #socialskills #englishcommunication

17.01.2022 Confidence may come from within, but it doesnt hurt to have some outside assistance to gain it.

16.01.2022 Nobody is born with limitless self-confidence. If someone seems to have incredible self-confidence, its because he or she has worked on building it for years. Self-confidence is something that you learn to build up because the challenging world of business, and life in general, can deflate it. Here are 10 things you can do to build up your self-confidence. 1. Visualize yourself as you want to be. 2. Affirm yourself.... 3. Do one thing that scares you every day. 4. Question your inner critic. 5. Take the 100 days of rejection challenge. 6. Set yourself up to win. 7. Help someone else. 8. Care for yourself. 9. Create personal boundaries. 10. Shift to an equality mentality. #internationstudents #buildconfidence #selfesteem

13.01.2022 In a presentation, you need to make the topic clear to your audience, identify the main sections of your talk, and link in your ideas and information so that the presentation flows. This can be done with the use of signalling or transition words, which show your audience how the presentation is structured and how ideas relate to each other. This is a form of signposting that creates a path through your discussion, to show your audience... how everything fits together. #presentation #English https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/be0WFr3Z2SfqQqIZJpE1aQ

09.01.2022 Avoid putting something off just because it takes a long time to achieve. Our time will pass anyway, we may as well fill it with something that matters to us. That way, one year from now you can look back and thank yourself for starting when you did. I challenge you to action something right now that you have been putting off and maybe regret not starting sooner. If you feel unmotivated: remember why you began.... #motivation #action

07.01.2022 There are no limits

07.01.2022 A student asked us why we have to follow the rules and the steps, is that too robotic? This is a very good question when you start learning something new and you seem to be acting like a robot at the beginning. It feels weird and unnatural. But dont worry about it just like when we learn to dance. We learned the steps first not the dance. Its boring and you wont do it beautifully, you do it steps by steps acting like a robot. ... But after you practice the dance steps by steps for a while, you will have the ability to perform the dance beautifully on the stage, and people dont notice your steps they see a performance. People see you in charge of the performance, therefore theres nothing wrong with following the rules and steps when you just begin to learn something. These first steps will set a solid foundation for you, all the steps you have mastered are just to make you flow flawlessly on the stage. However, a lot of learners dont think that way, they paid to much attention to perfect their dance performance at the beginning, they dont bother to master the basic steps first, they think that will slow them down. Hence, they only focus on the result instead of the journey of learning, therefore they dont have a solid ground. This makes it easy for them to fall and affect their confidence. It will give them the wrong appearance and they are just not good at this and unfortunately a lot of people will give up. Which is a pity, they have got the talent but not the patience. So my friends, lets be more patient when we are learning, allow yourself to be a child, have fun and practice steps by steps, the result will follow.

06.01.2022 #STUDY LESS, WITH GREATER INTENSITY In this era of social media and digital distractions, many studentsand adultsdo a lot of multitasking. But there is no such thing as successful multitasking because much of the time spent is wasted on context switching, where the brain has to restart and refocus. Consider the formula work accomplished = intensity of focus X time spent. A student who is studying for AP Biology but also checks his texts and scrolls through Instagram has a... low intensity of focussay a 3. Though he spends 3 hours studying, his work accomplished is only a 9. On the other hand, a student who takes steps to focus solely on AP Biology has a high-intensity of focusa 10. Though she spends only an hour studying, she accomplishes more than her distracted classmate did in 3 hours. #academic #internationalstudent

05.01.2022 This question seems simple, so many people fail to prepare for it, but its crucial. Heres the deal: Dont give your complete employment (or personal) history. Instead give a pitchone thats concise and compelling and that shows exactly why youre the right fit for the job. Here is a a simple and effective formula for structuring your response: present, past, future. Present: Talk a little bit about what your current role is, the scope of it, and perhaps a big recent acc...omplishment. Past: Tell the interviewer how you got there and/or mention previous experience thats relevant to the job and company youre applying for. Future: Segue into what youre looking to do next and why youre interested in this position (and a great fit for it, too). #interview #career #internationalstudent

04.01.2022 Getting through some interviews today before we start our revised workshop. Looking forward to meeting our new intake of international students.

04.01.2022 If you want to get on in this world you have to put in some effort.

04.01.2022 At this period, we have been flooded with negative news every day. Our life and work have been affected tremendously. But I believe we should always look for something positive in every situation. We could use this time to develop some new skills, especially in online working skills. As a result of this situation, the world is going to change. Mobility and online collaborating will become the most dominant way we work in the future.

02.01.2022 My favourite LinkedIn post today is from Ly Tran, Professor at Deakin University. What an inspiration to all current and future international students. The article. [Being an Academic and Becoming a Professor: When I came to #Australia as an #internationalstudent, I did not expect to become a #Professor at an Australian University one day! I did not do this alone! Many thanks to my lecturers, students, colleagues, family & friends for valuable learning journeys, support, enc...ouragement and inspiration. I am particularly grateful to my students over the past 23 years who have trusted me in letting me be part of their learning journeys and made me never cease to learn to deserve their trust. Becoming a lecturer at the age of 21 has been one of my biggest challenges since I joined the academia but thanks to the incredible support of my students and colleagues, I have constantly striven and learnt alongside with them. My new title officially took effect from 01/01/2020!] I believe any international student can achieve an outcome like Ly Tran if they are just given the right opportunity.
