20.01.2022 Just saw the most ridiculous headline...... Westpac Rate Rise - Will The Others Follow Suit? Ummmmm, let me give that the due and serious consideration that it deserv........ OF COURSE THEY WILL......

19.01.2022 Given the amount of commentary in the market about the broker industry, it’s refreshing to see the recent report from Deloitte that recognises the value our industry delivers to both consumers and our economy. Deloitte Economics published The Value of Mortgage Broking Report last week and I’ve provided some highlights below. Here is a snapshot of some of the findings:... Over 90 per cent of customers are happy with their mortgage broker and their services. More than 50 per cent of all home loans originate with mortgage brokers. A number that continues to grow. Mortgage brokers drive competition and place competitive pressure on interest rates, so customers get a better deal. Mortgage brokers provide access to a diversity of lenders leading to better customer outcomes. More than 70 per cent of mortgage brokers’ business is referred from existing customers. Brokers depend on strong relationships, so they put their customer first.

17.01.2022 YAWN...... In a move that surprised no-one, the RBA has left rates on hold for the 19th month in a row. Not entirely sure how to drum up enthusiasm for such an announcement - if you have any helpful suggestions, please list them in the comments below.....

14.01.2022 Wow, huge surprise (not) - the RBA has left the rate at 1.5% again at it's monthly meeting. That is 16 months in a row (sounds like my absence from the gym).....

14.01.2022 Phone calls this morning to two clients advising them that their loans have been approved and they can now buy that home that they have their hearts set on. Two very happy young couples.... Love this part of the job - makes the frustration of dealing with lenders, valuers, agents and solicitors all worthwhile.

12.01.2022 No surprises as the RBA leaves the cash rate on hold today.....

10.01.2022 A small break between eating somewhat too much Ham Toast at breakfast and way too much ham, prawns and oysters for lunch. Taking this opportunity to reflect on 2017 - it has been a year of happy times, discoveries and, as always, tinged with the odd challenge. Overall, I'd have to mark it as a good year. To those that have helped make it so - thank you sincerely for your support.... I hope that you and yours have a very pleasant festive season and a cracker 2018.

06.01.2022 Yawn..... By the way, you've probably seen it already. Yawn The RBA kept rates on hold for, like, the leventy seventh time in a row. Or something......

01.01.2022 Why are the banks so tight on lending right now? While some talk up the Australian economy, the fact is loan approvals are down and continuing to fall and people are starting to feel the pinch. The question is, if things are so good, why are the banks so tough? I’ve heard people say it’s because of the royal commission. While I agree all that extra attention has sent the banks into a bit of a spin, and I’m sure their public relations departments are earning their money right ...Continue reading

01.01.2022 Some more of the good oil (lengthy article, but worth the read if you like keeping an eye on the Housing / Investment market) Residential building is on the threshold of a sharp decline, courtesy of an extraordinarily successful regulatory intervention to discourage investors. According to BIS Oxford Economics’ Long-Term Forecasts 20172032 report, a fall in residential building will see gross domestic product (GDP) growth average at 2.6 per cent over the coming three yea...Continue reading
