22.01.2022 DAY 4 of Wellness week & today we are Introducing " Behind The Trees " www.behindthetrees.com.au We are delighted to be part of Wellness Week and be able to support our community with our business. When we think about wellness, we might not think about products or items straight away. People often feel indulgent in buying nice things for themselves or find it hard to justify spending money on what feels like a luxury rather than necessity but think about how it makes you fee...l when you have some beautiful moisturiser or hand cream or you have a soak in a bath with some calming bath salts. Think about how nice your room feels when there’s a lovely aroma and glow from a candle. We don’t normally think of these things as part of self-care but they ARE. They can make us feel good, feel treated and feel calm and relaxed. In our current crisis, when we are spending so much time at home, creating a space that feels relaxing is important more than ever. Our shop not only sells these self-care products but we have a whole section of what we call wellness products. These include essential oils, yoga mats, a variety of crystal products including water bottles and facial rollers, we sell some great books for adults and children and yoga cards and much more. As part of Wellness Week, we are offering 20% off our wellness products so if there’s something you’re interested in, now is a great time to try it. We are open online for click + collect and also offer local delivery. So, in the spirit of this week, let’s think about self-care, nurturing and relaxing as something we all deserve and see how it feels to enjoy something nice for ourselves. 10.01.2022 DAY 5 of Wellness Week [HAPPY FRIDAY] today we introduce Emerald Psychology Practice www.emeraldpsychology.com.au What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘psychologist’? I can tell you some funny things what people have said to me over the years can you read my mind?, I’m not saying anything now, you’re analysing me, what am I thinking right now? and so on! It makes me laugh but also highlights the misconceptions of who we are and what we do! So, if we’re not mind rea...ders, what are we? Psychologists are trained in understanding the mind and behaviour of humans. There are many different fields that psychologists work in and have roles such as organisational psychologists, developmental psychologists and forensic psychologists. Each are trained to work specifically with a specific population or a system. Psychologists who work in mental health are trained to understand how psychiatric conditions or everyday problems impact on a person’s functioning and their role is to reduce symptoms and help improve quality of life. Emerald Psychology is a family owned and run private practice clinic that provides services to children through to adults. We have been open since 2013 and in that time, our team has grown to 9 practitioners and 2 administration staff. Being based in ‘the hills’ has meant we are strongly connected to our local community and as such, we are responsive to the community needs. Different clinics have different visions and differing values and ours has always been to provide accessible mental health care to our clients. Our psychologists take a caring, compassionate and person-centred approach to their work which means that we don’t try and squash clients into a category but more that we tailor the intervention to what each person needs. That is because we recognise that every human comes with a different story and even though you might be treating ‘depression’, there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’. This week is meaningful for a few main reasons. Firstly, that we want to reach out to as many people as possible. We are mindful that there may be many obstacles to accessing our services and many people are struggling, silently, behind closed doors. We want to firmly put WELLNESS on the map in way that starts conversations, normalises wellbeing and validates peoples lived experience. Finally, we want to educate people and provide a sense of self-efficacy whereby there might be small things that people can do that might lead them to believe they can improve and knowing how to start the journey of recovery is empowering. He worked in Australian public hospitals for eight years including five years in Obstetrics & Gynecology and three years in various other specialities before commencing General Practice.
