24.01.2022 Re energise yourself, by reenergising your home. . Lets talk about the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui. What is Feng Shui? ... Feng Shui is the belief that everything has an energy or chi. Therefore the process of Feng shui, is a system of looking at our homes, working environments and finding a balance with the natural world and the universe energy. My top tips for renewing the energy in your home. 1/ Bring the outside in. Its now spring open all the doors and windows, remove all the stale trapped air/energy. Air quality will be instantly improved. Its well known nature is relaxing, reduces anxiety and restores balance. Consider indoor plants or nature photography or artwork also. 2/ Create space is to declutter, cluttered home = cluttered mind. Also clutter allows negative energy to stay trapped in spaces of your home. 3/ Brighten up the entry to your home. This is where all the good vibes and positive energy enter your home. Its where we welcome friends and loved ones, also bringing joy. 4/ Focus on your master bedroom, this space really needs to be your sanctuary to allow for rejuvenating sleep. Indulge in luxurious linen. Position your bed, so when you enter the room, you are at the foot end of the bed. This is called commanding position. No mirrors and no electronics in your bedroom, they introduce negative energy, effecting your good nights sleep. 5/ Clear a path, with furniture placement, this is to allow effective functional flow for you to move around your home safely and with ease. The energy can move freely also. These are all steps you can implement today. Bring new energy to you and your home. . . . via @ginabourne

24.01.2022 D E S I G N P S Y C H O L O G Y . Ever wondered why some homes, make you draw breathe and feel instantly at ease or those that turn your brain into a spinning top, when you walk in? . For some reason, they have a vibe you cant really explain?... . It is all about design psychology, which is how you feel in your environment. . We as humans, all with varying personality types, discover the world and our environment through our senses. These senses translate into emotional reactions. Our emotional reactions transpire to our thought process and from there, it influences our lifestyle and wellbeing. . Design psychology is what fascinates me about peoples homes, its how people choose to live, but more importantly it is why they choose to live that way. . A home should never just be how it looks, it should always be how it makes you feel. . There are so many contributing factors that allow our homes to nurture our wellbeing. . This is my aim with every client and design. As part of my design process, I love working with clients to truly understand their brief. In this process its fascinating to see clients learn more about themselves and answer questions they werent expecting from an interior designer. . I love learning, but I also love to pass on my knowledge to others, so who is with me? Who would love me to give away my best tips and knowledge, so your home can enhance your lifestyle and wellbeing? . Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Facebook and I shall share my best tips with you in the coming weeks. . Sarah xx See more

23.01.2022 Get on board people!!! A step towards a home that supports your wellbeing and the environment.

22.01.2022 Natural Ventilation and how to achieve it in your new build or renovation! . What does Natural Ventilation mean? Its a non mechanical, natural process of pulling fresh air into a building from the outside, pushing the warm, dirty air within the home, back outside. Its a natural method of cooling a home. If you read my recent post on Feng Shui, its also very important to reenergise youre home allowing fresh energy in and stale negative energy out. ... How do we achieve Cross Ventilation or Wind Effect Ventilation? This involves wind entering through a vent (window or door) and allowing air to flow directly through the house and out an opening on the other side of the home or at the ceiling, with the use of opening sky lights. It is important to note here, which way the wind normally blows and the orientation of your home. These are important factors to consider when designing your home or renovation. The positioning and height of windows could be adjusted, the pitch of your ceiling or roof may be the difference you need to allow for effective cross ventilation. Natural ventilation will have no running energy costs, once the design has been implemented. Its a win win really. . . . . 18.01.2022 A I R Q U A L I T Y. Did you know, the air quality inside your home is 3 to 5 times more polluted than outside air! (Unless you live near a coal mine, then thats debatable.) . Homes are being built with requirements for higher energy efficiency, so less gaps, better seals and insulation. So more and more our homes cannot breathe like homes built years ago. ... . Do you or family members suffer from respiratory symptoms like asthma or dust mite allergies? Here are 6 (because thats my favourite number) steps to improve air quality in your home, which you can start immediately! 1/ Open Windows: Allow instant movement of air, allowing toxins and pollutants to escape your home, and bring fresh air in. 2/ Door Mats at entry doors. This includes a mat on the exterior and interior side of the door. This will help remove toxins and dirt from being walked through your home. Better still shoes off policy. 3/ Use an exhaust fan when cooking in the kitchen. Who cooks with Non stick cookware? Did you know every time a nonstick surface is put on the heat, it omits toxins into the air? 4/ Dust and Vacuum regularly. Dust with a damp cloth, feather dusters, just push the dust from one spot to another, it doesnt eliminate the dust. Its also best to vacuum regularly and be sure to have a HEPA filter on your vacuum too. 5/ Eliminate Chemicals from your home. For example air fresheners and cleaning products. There are so many natural / green alternatives these days. Even burning some candles can pollute the air in your home. Be sure to invest in soy or beeswax candles, and that the fragrances are natural essential oils. 6/ Invest in air purifiers. If youre like me, I do this by loving my indoor plant collection. If youre not a green thumb, then you could invest in a high quality air purifier, which will purify your indoor air. . Which step will you start with to improve your homes air quality? . . . . @emersondesign_

12.01.2022 Sustainable home vs wellness home. . Are they the same thing? . There is an abundance of talk, literature and knowledge about a building a sustainable home!... . So what is a sustainable home? . A sustainable home is designed with the environment and our planet in mind. . You may have heard of terms like, eco friendly, energy efficient and green home. . An eco friendly, energy efficient home is just that, it uses less energy to build, construct and live in, which in turn is beneficial for our planet. A sustainable home aims to use products that have minimal environmental impact, a reduced carbon footprint, from the production of, installation of and lifespan (off gassing of toxins) of products. . Which brings me to a wellness home. . What is a wellness home? . A wellness home design focus, is keeping humans healthy within their homes. It holistically aims to improve and protect your health and wellbeing. . This is through, air quality, water quality, ventilation, heating and cooling comfort, lighting, encouragement of healthy eating, physical health, mental health, spaces to rejuvenate and spaces to encourage solitude or togetherness, . There are similarities between sustainable and wellness homes, and you can have one without the other, however the ideal home is to have a combination of both. . Whilst sustainable design is well recognised, I have a real focus of wellness design for our homes. I believe this to be the future of design. . Planet health and human health is our only future. 11.01.2022 Garages are a homes new junk draw. . Daily walks have me noticing so many homes have a two car garage, but owners cant drive their car in them. WHY? 1/ Either the houses are not built with adequate storage or... 2/ People have too much STUFF Our surroundings impact our physical and emotional wellbeing, all that stuff can be bringing you down all without you realising it. So here are my tops tips to start tackling the clutter in your home. 1/ Start small. Dont plan on decluttering your whole house in one day, youre setting yourself up to fail. Start with benchtops, side buffets or a wardrobe, if thats overwhelming start with your handbag/wallet. 2/ Divide your belongings into Four Categories * Throw Out. * Donate. * Still Need/ Not ready to part with. * Find a Home for it. 3/ When you are trying to decide which category to put your things, ask yourself some questions like: * Do I truly need it? * Do I truly love it? Just because you have your Great Aunts tea set, if you dont use it or love it, you dont keep it. Sell it, or donate it. Memory Clutter is the hardest to part with, but you can do it. Heres just one more tip, if you cant decide where to put something and you think in a box in the garage is a good spot, I can guarantee you will never need it, time to purge it. Now is the time to make a start, you have have everything to gain. Happy Decluttering. . . Styling by @westelmprovidence via @westelmaus

02.01.2022 Does your bedroom feel like your sanctuary? If your answer is no.... Here are my top tips to get you started. . 1/ Declutter your space: Im talking about the pile of clothes on your floor, or nearby wardrobe. Your beside table should be clutter free also. A lamp, a good book and a notepad (so you can write down what your brain cant stop thinking about so you can switch off)... . 2/ I CANNOT stress to you enough, the importance of investing in quality linen. It is true, once you have slept between French linen, there is no going back. It allows your body and skin to breath, keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter. . 3/ Its a well known fact... keep electronics out of the bedroom. No tv, no laptops and no phones. Our body clocks use melatonin to allow us to relax and fall into the first stage of sleep. Watching tv or being on your phone robs your body of this. Read a book. . 4/ Mood lighting in a bedroom can also magically change how you feel in your space. No one wants a bright down light in their face when laying in bed. A subtle lamp or pendant lighting beside you, allows you to unwind before turning lights off. . 5/This leads me to having a dark room. Invest in some beautiful blockout blinds/ curtains. It may be street lights, moonlight or the early morning sunlight. Our circadian rhythm needs darkness to get the maximum rest from our sleep. . . 01.01.2022 H O M E. . The Oxford dictionary defines home as the house or flat that you live in, especially with your family. Put simply this gives reference to the purpose of a home, but it doesnt define, what home truly means. . So what does home really mean?... . Heres my truth bomb. . Home is a room or space, that is an extension of your heart. . . Lets go back to childhood, to your bedroom. . Was your bedroom a space that you could, truly be you?
