25.01.2022 Tell me again I should paint less detail!!!

24.01.2022 Fresh off the easel. Available, enquire if you would like this colourful cutie hanging in your home.

23.01.2022 Today at TAFE. Finished this painting (probably), and started the next. The second photo is only an underpainting. Sometimes you just have to work it out on the canvas when you're not "copying a photo". Have a wonderful day friends.

22.01.2022 Also; It’s not a real job

21.01.2022 Hi everyone, I tried two new things recently, that I would like to share with you. First, I tried spraying a mural (just a really big vertical painting!) with spray cans. It was hard, you guys! I have a lot more learning to do with this medium, but since I want murals to be a significant part of my career long term, I'm inspired to now get the right equipment so I can control the way the paint comes out, and more colours to work with. I think it's important to record honestly... when things aren't as good as you know they could be, because then you can look back and see your growth. The reason I used cans was purely financial, they don't make sample pots of exterior grade paint! $33/L or $5/can. I'll get into it again and redo most of it, probably all of it. That cockatoo should be bigger... Maybe get a litre of black to get a crisp outline with brushes. So here's to diversifying, taking leaps of faith, and experimentation. The second thing I did was try plein air painting for the first time. Guys, I am hooked. It felt right. It's not a great painting, but it was my first one ever, so that's unsurprising!!! But my painting teacher was not kidding about making sure you're in a comfortable position - I got me a sore back . I'm so enthused now to do an hour or two every few days to keep my eye 'seeing'. Good painting comes from good drawing, and good drawing comes from good seeing, and seeing comes from, well, looking at stuff on purpose! Thanks for tuning in and I encourage you to come with me to paint outside sometime. I'll help you get started 'looking at stuff on purpose' too!

20.01.2022 Aaaand that's a wrap! Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts painting students celebrate their spectacular achievements this year. Can we do anything if we are creative and resourceful? Yes we can!

19.01.2022 Photographing the sunrise through condensation and fly screen looks like pointillism! Weird. Poor phone doesn't know what to do with the information. Everything could be a painting.

17.01.2022 Our exhibition at the Trapezium Gallery for the next week. https://liviwant.wixsite.com/spacebetweenus

16.01.2022 Nearly finished! A few small tweaks to do next week. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to do this mural. Also want to thank the photographers for giving me permission to use their images.

15.01.2022 I HAVE TO DO THIS. Specifically, mid-December when I graduate the Advanced Diploma at TAFE. Would any of you buy something like this?

11.01.2022 Important lessons for creatives

10.01.2022 Lots of progress today, still haven't put you on Mum ! This is a portrait of my Mum. In a few days some tonal adjustments and shadows.

09.01.2022 Weeds, weeds, weeds...

09.01.2022 Today's work at TAFE. Not finished yet.

09.01.2022 Good to see how she chose her colours and how to create magic out of the ordinary.

08.01.2022 Probably the last in my current body of work. Maybe the inspiration for the next body of work. Cathedral Sky, oil on canvas, 102 x 76 cm. $300

08.01.2022 While I'm feeling vain (or accomplished/honoured), some of my paintings were selected for the Creative Contact banners, used to promote TAFE and show what students can learn in the courses. Concurrently, a massive amount of student work is printed (A3) and exhibited in the Trapezium Gallery for the benefit of anyone considering enrolling for next year. Today was my last class for Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts . I will miss all my fellow students and the awesome teachers.

07.01.2022 Finished! This painting is about the urban encroaching on wildness. It's part of a series I am doing about the journey from captivity to freedom, using the man-made environment as a symbol of captivity, and immersing yourself in nature as a symbol of true freedom. It's a gentle releasing, and realising that we are restless is the first step. As usual, it's easy for kids to make the connection. In this painting, kids from the pink house have escaped urban confinement and made BMX jumps in the vacant land. Wildness is making a comeback, even if weeds aren't the first thing you think of when you think of freedom.

07.01.2022 These are the paintings I did this semester with TAFE. This was my first time focusing on portraits.

07.01.2022 11:45 pm, I have spent most of the day on these nasturtiums. I'm aching in my neck and back (I can see why in the photo my son took earlier - what terrible posture!), but with the exception of small touch ups the flowers are mostly done. So tired. Plenty more painting to do tomorrow as time is against me for things to be dry by 15th of February and hanging at Braemar.

06.01.2022 Here's some evidence about not trusting your eye to draw a straight line. Resorted to a ruler and sharpie. Probably will look too perfect (or is that what I want??) #idontknowwhatimdoing but the only way forward is to WORK. Certainly working through some deep feelings with God as I paint today.

06.01.2022 I have fallen in love with this style of painting! Seeing how she uses colour makes me want to cry! (And then analyse why I am drawn to it, etc, they hold together tonally, blah blah). Maybe this will be the direction of my next body of work! Doing portraits was great but I have missed using lots of colour A six minute video if you have time and want to escape from the stresses of your day. Emily https://youtu.be/YDgqEgzEYsM

05.01.2022 Today was Round 2 on THE WALL. Brushes and exterior black paint, plenty of planning and drawing, standing back, and committing with black paint. I feel like I'm on track now. Background next. Painting like this feels like something I was born to do.

05.01.2022 My painting featured!

03.01.2022 Getting going on my portrait of David King for Blue Mountains Portraits. Haven't done the face properly yet.

03.01.2022 Oh how delicious!

03.01.2022 Changed my mind, added more buildings... That's alright isn't it? Just blocked in those buildings in the foreground, and there's something wrong with the white rooftop on the bottom right. No doubt one of you will see instantly and help me out or Mr Painting Teacher tomorrow will know.

02.01.2022 A couple of things I have been working on. 2nd one has lots more work to go.

01.01.2022 I am TIRED! Painting is WORK! This painting is called "When Dad changes the beds", and is for the group exhibition I am a part of in February at Braemar gallery Springwood, The People We Are. With thanks to the Reavey family for letting me paint them. Sweet friends who moved over seas.
