25.01.2022 This past rotation around the sun has truely become the most transformative year of my life. In 2019 I could feel every aspect of my life was begging for change, So I saved up, ... Packed my bags and headed off on an adventure I had always dreamed of. Travelling solo last year felt like the beginning of the process, And when I arrived home (and into Covid) I knew the real work had to happen. I had to continue to shed the layers I could feel myself letting go of. I was determined for radical change, And it’s what I’ve received ~ in the best possible way. On my 27th year I arrived in complete and utter newness. But even though everything has changed, nothing feels random. Because we always arrive exactly where we were meant to be. Even if it takes a little time. X ~ A very blurry but sparkly happy me

23.01.2022 How do we know when we are out of balance? Ayurveda teaches us that the elements live within us and some of us naturally have a little bit more F I R E Pitta Dosha ~ those inspiring, strong go getters. ... When they are balanced they are a beautiful, bright flame that lights up the room. At their brightest ~ they are charming, passionate and their drive & focus is inspiring. But when they are out of balance they are like a raging, unstoppable flame that will burn through you (and themselves). When we have a Pitta imbalance we have too much fire. Ayurveda says like increases like and opposites balance So to balance Pitta we need to embody the qualities of water ~ it’s opposite. Cool, calming and flowing. Swipe right to learn more. X

18.01.2022 My yoga practice has shifted and refined over the past year, like so many practitioners. With the time + space we were given in 2020, i was able to reflect and go further into my practice.... I have been able to come more into the subtle practices that i wasn’t able to tap into before. Our Yoga & Spiritual practice works in Layers, We move inwards over time. We begin in the physical, and it takes time (maybe a lifetime) to start moving in. I came to yoga like most through asana practice, I came to yoga to get into my body & essentially out of my head. Because at that time, it was what i needed. But as my practice has evolved, i have slowly started to move inwards, Because we eventually learn that the movement can only take us so far. And when we are ready, new practices will come. But we have to move through the layers to get there. Lately, I’ve now found myself picking up Yogic Philosophy books i could barely get through before, and now i can’t put them down. I’m beginning to favour my meditation practice, where i struggled for years to even get a few minutes in and now it’s become the practice i crave more than anything. I’m devouring my Ayurvedic studies & Practice, Understanding it is so much more in depth, complex & individual than Doshic Quizzes and Kitchari. As practitioners, our practice never ends. We continue to learn, grow & evolve over time. Peeling back layer by layer. X ~ Photo my own taken of offerings at Boudhanath Stupa, Nepal

18.01.2022 Something that has become increasingly important to me this past year has been coming back to the traditional roots of Yoga. Sometimes as teachers we go so far down the Vinyasa flow route we forget that Yoga is Sadhana ~ Spiritual Practice. Travelling to India last year helped me remember this, ... And this past year of studies in Ayurveda & Tantra felt like a re-learning. Yoga is not an exercise class, as we may have reframed it to be in the west. But a personal spiritual practice, To cleanse our body, mind & connect to something deeper within ourselves. We know this because we’ve all experienced those moments of pure clarity in Savasana or meditation. That’s what gets us hooked. One of my teachers frames it beautifully ~ Ayurveda is for our body, Yoga is for our mind And Tantra is for our energy. But they all interweave and flow towards the same higher state we are searching for. Our Practice can change, grow & evolve but, we need to always hold an essence of its intention ~ Sadhana. ~ Capture of one of my favourite moments practicing on a rooftop in the desert near Pushkar

16.01.2022 What you won't find in a yoga class with me . . . Inversions & Arm-Balances (Crow Pose is my yoga arch nemesis) Impressive knowledge of Anatomy with the ability to cue to the bone & muscle. Fluent Sanskrit or poetic prose, ... You also won't hear me saying Namaste at the end of class, & I'll ask you to face towards the back of the room in Savasana. But what you will find in a yoga class with me. . . Flowing & freeing movement, allowing you to feel into your own unique body. Simple, easy to follow cues. Practices that honor nature's rhythms and an Ayurvedic way of living, Lots of warm up (is there ever too much?) Options, variations and no pressure to casually "float" up into a handstand. Acknowledgement of the tradition of the practice & the culture where it was birthed as best I can (as a young, white, able-bodied female) Oh and Breath, lots of Breath, always. So. . . Have I sold myself? If you're keen for some down to earth yoga, Come hang. Tomorrow. 7.30-8.30am Tuesday Mornings Suffolk Park Community Hall $15 DM to book. Coffee & chats after always. Love, Em x

14.01.2022 After a couple of months of travelling + moving it feels good to be grounded. Getting back into healthy routines and rhythms. One of the reasons I decided to move here, ... Like so many ~ to get out of the hustle and bustle and connect back more with nature. To be more connected to the land, The community, The earth. To shop and source local, And know the faces of the people that create what I put on my plate. It’s become an increasingly important priority for me in this past year. Grateful to have the best (and coolest) farmers market in Aus at the doorstep. X

09.01.2022 Home. I’m feeling more at home these days than maybe I ever have, And sure, this little town has opened its arms to me. ... But I know it’s more than that. Home isn’t where the heart is, It isn’t in your lovers arms, It isn’t where you grew up or where you live, Home is YOU. Home is within you. It’s the only thing that won’t ever change. And from someone who grew up with a very changeable sense of home, Never feeling grounded and stable, I’ve realised this is the only home I truely have. The one within myself. Feeling more at peace with who I am, More balanced, Grounded and stable. After years spinning out in the clouds, I feel like I finally have two feet planted on the earth, Maybe for the first time. Because I have finally come back home to myself. ~ Written a couple weeks ago in my new home up North and still rings true in my old one today. X

08.01.2022 Some Gentle Ayurvedic Guidelines around eating ~ Try to drink before & after eating but not during to not over complicate the digestive system. ~ Leave ample time between meals & as best you can avoid snacking to give your digestive system time to move through a full cycle & rest between meals. ... ~ Favour warm and cooked foods as they are easier to digest & the Prana wakes up when food is lightly cooked. ~ Chew your food well - aim for at least 20 chews per bite or until food is somewhat liquidised. ~ Ideally each meal contains the six tastes of sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent. ~ As best you can try to make meals fresh at the time of consumption & avoid having leftovers (I still find this one challenging). ~ Do not eat when you are stressed, angry, upset or in a rush ~ consuming food will just add extra stress to the body & you won’t feel nourished. Eat when you are calm & have the time. ~ Before each meal take a moment to close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and feel grateful for the nourishment you are about to receive. ~ Ayurveda teaches us to slow down & tune into our body to allow ourselves to feel truely nourished.
