24.01.2022 My first peformance face to face since lock down but my last peformance before little ones arrival. It could possibly be the last for the year as I will be taking extended time to allow my body to heal and recover. I feel so much energy and love today after our schools mini hafla last night. I feel very blessed to be surrounded by such a lovely and supportive community of women. It’s a bitter sweet moment for me as it will be the first time I am taking such a long period off dancing in 9 years. It’s well need time though. I will be casually teaching classes for the next few weeks before I step into the crazy, unexpected whirlwind that is motherhood.

13.01.2022 I wanted to quit dancing so many times throughout the last couple of years because of the countless amounts of crap that comes with being a professional dancer. I constantly question why I put up with up so much narcissistic, high school level nastiness when it has taken so much joy away from my dancing and made me forget why I fell in love with dancing in the first place. I hear nasty comments about myself and even my students from senior dancers who have never take...n a second to even have a conversation face to face. I was uninvited to a community event by the person who verbally abused and took advantage of me on multiple occasions. Have been verbally abused for suggesting to heal our community. Was grossly underpaid by a mentor who took advantage of my naivety and ambition as a young dancer. Have been harassed multiple times about undercutting the last few years despite working hard to adhere to industry standards. Just today I had restaurant I was established at taken from me. Sadly, this behaviour seems to be standard in every bellydance community and it's really heartbreaking to see. Last year I realised how toxic my relationship was becoming with dancing and I felt ashamed about the person it was making me become. I was becoming resentful and upset about the smallest things. I spent a year doing some serious soul searching and even considered quitting at one stage because I was so tired of trying to rise above it and keep postiive. I have decided to take a step back this year from community activities and only invest in the things that positively contribute to my wellbeing and mental health. I fell involve with dancing because it made me happy and I started teaching because I enjoyed sharing my love and passion with others. My aim this year is to continue to build the supportive, vibrant and empowering community that I always wanted to be apart of. Im lucky because my colleagues Elena and Margaret also shares this vision with me. Stepping into this new year of dance, I feel inspired and focused to keep working hard to achieve my goals and prove we don’t need to tear each other down to succeed. See more

09.01.2022 Out of maternity leave earlier than planned. Minus the nausea and vomiting, I had a physically easy pregnancy that allowed me to keep active up until the day before I gave birth. I ended up having quite a few unexpected complications after birth but I’m trying to be kind and gentle to myself. My journey back to recovery will be a little longer than I thought but 10 months of pregnancy will do that to you I guess #bellydance #bellydancer #bellydancing #brisbanebellydance #brisbanebellydancer #brisbanedanceclass #brisbanecity #australianbellydancer

07.01.2022 Wishing everyone a happy International Women Day today! We are so grateful and humbled to have so many wonderful and supportive women (and the men who love them) as a part of our school. Our goal was to provide a loving community and dance classes to women of all body shapes, sizes and abilites through creating a safe and welcoming space to explore dance, culture and creativity. Watching so many of our students transform over the years, we believe this is something we have su...ccesfully acheived in bucket loads! Today I am grateful I got to spend international Women’s Day with my students in class tonight. I am also grateful to know and work along side this amazing woman @mbpjkacf. She has helped shape me into the woman I am today and if I had never met her, I have no idea who I could be today. She inspires me to not only be a better dancer and teacher but just a better person In general. She has always supported and encouraged me to keep aiming higher and working harder in my dance career. She has never once held me back or prevented me from taking opportunities to progress. She is always the loudest person in the audience cheering me on and always more excited about my accomplishment than even I am. She has shown me what It truly means to empower and support another women. I hope I can make even 1/4 of the difference she has in my life, in the students I meet.

05.01.2022 Wishing everyone a Happy New Years! January is always a time for me to sit and reflect on the previous year and the year ahead . What do I want to see happen over the year? Where do I want to be in a years time? What are my goals, ambitions? This time last year I spent weeks creating visions boards and planning what I thought would be my best year yet. I never imagined we would be hit with the most unprecedented global event of the century. Little did I know, at the same time..., my greatest creation yet was already taking place inside my body and a big change for the better was coming. Being pregnant in lockdown provided me with some much need time to reevaluate my life, my values and my priorities. Im enjoying the rollercoaster of motherhood and watching my son grow each day. My body is still healing but my soul is ready to start dancing again! Our teachers are busy planning the year ahead and can't wait to share with you all. We are still finalising the timetable for term 1 and a new project to kick off 2021 on the right foot! Stay tuned ;) #bellydance #bellydancer #bellydancing #brisbanebellydance #brisbanebellydancer #brisbanedanceclass #brisbanecity #australianbellydancer

04.01.2022 SUMMER SCHOOL WITH SOUL DANCE info! The project we have been working on the last few months to start 2021 on the right hip ;) To help make this the happiest new year possible we would like to officially launch our Jan/Feb Summer School. All dancers in Brisbane are welcome. We are officially starting classes back in March so we have a programme of workshops carefully curated to start us off in Jan & Feb with fun, focus and community building. Our intention is to keep the ...community connected to each other and the individual dancers connected to their 'shimmy' over the holidays! A note on the dance workshops;- they are all designed to be low stress and fun and each dance is designed to add to a repertoire of dances that can be danced together at any get togethers during the year - think "Macarena" and "YMCA" - that kind of thing! Please note that some of the venues are 'to be advised' depending on how many people book in and/or covid regulations. We are keen on providing air conditioned venues if possible so locations will are likely to be Brendale, Albany Creek, Chermside and Morayfield. Will let you know as soon as we do
