22.01.2022 Did you know that almonds are good for wrinkles? In a study of postmenopausal women, those who were given 20% of their daily calories as almonds had less wrinkl...e severity and less wrinkle width after a study time of just 16 weeks. Almonds are full of good fats and protein along with vitamins and minerals. They are a great snack, and also good for wrinkles it seems! If you are like me, then making lunches is n...ot an enjoyable part of the morning routine. I’m here to help! As a naturopath, I usually do a talk for kindy parents at my local school each year about healthy lunches. It didn’t happen in 2020 due to everything being canceled, so I decided to put it online. If you have any questions about healthy lunches feel free to give me a shout. I hope you all enjoy the last week of school holidays!

19.01.2022 Stock. This is the basis to most of my recipes. I add it to the water of rice. It is the base for my risotto. I am currently using it in chicken noodle soup. All stocks taste a bit different. Experiment and find one you like and it will give that little something something to any recipe!

18.01.2022 FAQ Fridays! I thought I would start posting some answers about what is naturopathic medicine over the next weeks. If you have some other questions you would like answered, either post here or send me a PM and I will post an answer in coming weeks;) What is Naturopathic Medicine? Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. The naturopathic philosophy is to stimulate the healing power of the body and treat the underlying cause of disease. Symptoms of disease are seen as warning signals of improper functioning of the body, and unfavourable lifestyle habits. Naturopathic Medicine emphasizes disease as a process rather than as an entity.

16.01.2022 Is eating vegetables really that important? Yes! Increased fruit and vegetable intake is associated with a decrease in all causes of mortality. It is also associated with reduced cancer and cardiovascular disease death. https://jech.bmj.com/content/68/9/856

16.01.2022 I bought new leggings! There are 2 things that make this particularly awesome. Number 1 is that I bought them in under 5 minutes while in the company of my 3 year old (win!). Number 2 is that @Runningbare83 turns out to be an Australian company with most of their products manufactured in Sydney! (double win!). Buying locally made products is better for the environment and ensures the workers are paid a fair wage. Support local whenever you can. P.S. I also really liked that they have a bear on them!

15.01.2022 This recipe is certainly a family favourite. I had to fight off little hands in order to take pictures for this post! This is a different kind of chocolate pud...ding in that it tastes amazing while being loaded with healthy ingredients. It is also very easy to make, just blend all the ingredients together. We like to mix in some fresh fruit just before eating, but you can also just eat it plain. [ 380 more words ] http://behealthy.live///healthy-chocolate-avocado-pudding/ See more

09.01.2022 Who likes to get dirty? I don't usually, but lately I have been going mountain biking with my son and his friends and I have to say it is pretty fun. There is definitly something about riding straight through a puddle of mud that makes you feel a bit younger and more carefree. Give it a try. Next time it rains jump in the puddle with the kids and see how you feel.

06.01.2022 Need an easy, effective, low-cost treatment for what ails you? Read on. When I was 34 weeks pregnant with number 3, I had a cough. I wasn’t sick and it wasn’t a... really bad cough. If I hadn’t been pregnant it probably wouldn’t have bothered me that much. But I was pregnant. So it did bother me. As anyone who has been pregnant, especially multiple times, can attest, things are hard to hold when you have a cough. 03.01.2022 Here is my actual after dinner snack. The almond butter I make by roasting almonds and then blending with some almond oil and a pinch of salt. Super delicious and some healthy fats and protein before bed. Mmmmmmm

03.01.2022 There is no bad weather, just bad clothing. This is a common saying in the outdoor world in Canada. I used to say it a lot while working at Mountain Equipment... Coop (for Australians, this is like Paddy Pallin on steroids). This came to mind this morning as I looked out the window at the rain. The weather shouldn’t be a barrier to getting outside. I remember visiting relatives in the notoriously rainy Victoria, and asking them what they do in the rain. They replied that they put a rain jacket on. They weren’t going to let the weather get in the way of them being outdoors. There are so many advances in outdoor clothing these days. Cold, rain and sun are really no excuse to getting outside. So remember on days like today, there is no bad weather, just bad clothing, and get yourself outside. Your body and mind (and your dog) will appreciate it. Mine did.

02.01.2022 What do you do for self care? What makes you feel good? I haven't been posting for awhile. Life has seemed so busy and I think I needed some self care. I pers...onally like time alone but also getting outside and getting exercise. This is us on a very wet walk a couple weeks ago. We're never to old for a good puddle jump! See more

01.01.2022 "Eat Food, Mostly Plants, Not Too Much." This is from Michael Pollan's book 'In Defence of Food'. I love this sentence. It just sums up everything about eatin...g healthy in 7 words. Doing this can be far from easy, but I think it takes the confusion away from what we are trying to achieve. https://www.booktopia.com.au/in-defens//9780143114963.html I haven't read his book "Food Rules" yet, but it looks really good too. I'm going to get it and I'll let you know. https://michaelpollan.com/reviews/how-to-eat/
